  1. There is always the tank your career on purpose technique. Passed over twice trumps ADSC remaining.
  2. I might have died laughing like a weasel in Who Framed Roger Rabbit while reading that letter.
  3. I saw plenty of those surprisingly motivated 18X 2Lts at my previous base. Most have given up before they pin on 1Lt. The most optimistic projections have Holloman producing 350ish pilots per year IF we double IP manning. We currently lose approximately 240 RPA pilots per year with a production of about 180. When the 18Xs hit the end of their ADSCs, you'll see that 240 number increase significantly. To compound the problem many of those 18Xs walking out the door will be your new FTU IPs. My prediction: things improve just enough in 2016 and 2017 for the higher ups to think they've fixed the problem. 2018 sees the exodus and the RPA enterprise is caught with its flightsuit around its ankles. Then in 2019 we find ourselves back at square one, only with the stigma of 4 more years of failure and likely an increase in CAPs looming. TLDR: We're fucked.
  4. Expect the number of RPA drops to increase in 2019. The bulk of 18Xers start to hit the end of their ADSCs in 2018. Expect most of them to separate. That manning has to get replaced from somewhere.
  5. I've always thought that one of the T-1's best capes is that it reduces T-38 usage. If you send 75% percent of UPT students to T-1s, your T-38s last 4 times as long. What's better for the B-2 dudes I have no idea. If we do buy a new companion trainer, I hope we buy a few for us poor bastards stuck in RPAs.
  6. This would be true if you were the one deciding how to spend the money. However, Congress decides how to spend the "extra" money in your scenario. They'd notice that the VA had extra cash after the end of the first year, adjust the VA's budget down and spend the windfall on highway maintenance.
  7. I've had the misfortune of flying MQ-9s since 2012, important isn't a word I would use to describe my job. I flew KC-135s prior to this RPA bullshit, it's a better life. Killing people is fun, but you don't get to do it enough to justify accepting the bullshit.
  8. We don't.
  9. I am currently an AD RPA pilot. It is by far the worst experience of my life. For reference my other shitty life experiences include: 12 hurricanes/cyclones/tornados, a couple of earthquakes, 17 car crashes*, a divorce, and approximately 100 rocket attacks. *Wear your seatbelt it works.
  10. The Navy isn't sending pilots to RPAs. Hint, hint.
  11. What will we call them once they're no longer Airmen? I suggest Bronies.
  12. Follow motox3005's advice. Keep pressing, don't give up. Unfortunately, doing a support person's job for them will be good training for being an Air Force pilot.

  14. Sousaphone players come in as SMSgts.
  15. That's a good and realistic attitude. Good luck getting back to a cockpit.
  16. I had a lot of hope for Schwartz along the same lines. I think most of the Air Force's problems lie in between the Squadrons and the CSAF.
  17. The shortest route to any destination is usually proceeding direct. Be aware that there is an age limit for UPT, times a wasting. If you're set on fighters apply to units that fly those. Don't forget the Navy and Marines fly fighters as well.
  18. If you're a generic Middle Eastern Autocrat a bloodthirsty but not particularly effective opposition is a useful thing. Moderate opposition might get US support, best to let the extremist opposition wipe them out. Then he plays the guy "who can be reasoned with".
  19. Alcoholics go to meetings, stay away from those and you'll be safe.
  20. It does. The Russians are a shell of their Cold War selves, but they're still a shell with nukes. They probably wouldn't appreciate their dudes getting killed. I don't think they'd go full retard, but they might cut off energy supplies to Western Europe right as winter hits. They'll let the Germans suffer for a few weeks, then offer to turn the spigots back on if we leave Assad alone. They'll point out he's not nearly as bad as ISIS after all and this would reduce that nasty refugee problem that's been in the news so much. They're gambling that with us having an election upcoming, the current administration will opt to declare victory and go home so the issue disappears before the primaries. How Obama reacts, I have no idea.
  21. As long as you precede "Sir, take me off your fucking spam list" with "With all due respect" you should be good.
  22. This sounds like a commercial for Bad Idea Jeans. You need to get her added to your orders. If she failed the medical/dental screening, DON'T BRING HER. Talk to your chain and get a different assignment if it comes to that. If she goes without SOFA status/being on your orders: no Japanese driver's license, no married rate OHA, no school for your kids if they lack sponsorship and so on. That said 18th Wing JAG is your relevant expert on the SOFA. Good luck.
  23. So much this. Make them show you the reg. Kadena's other favorite is "it's in the SOFA". Usually it's not.
  24. I'm 99.69% sure I'm separating ASAP, but I want the USAF to get better for the sake of my friends who are dumb/motivated/patriotic/stubborn enough to stay. I just don't think it will.
