  1. Deployed LR is where it's at. But this game is volatile. I saw a dude go through the cycle of hired-deployed-fired in about 5 weeks.
  2. Defense contracting can be fun, especially if you're still flying. I'm doing that and will make about a quarter mil this year pre-tax. Be forewarned that we could start a "What's wrong with Corporate America" thread that would rival the 140 pager we've got going on the USAF. I work in an office that's primarily old ladies, so I miss being able to drink at work and tell stories about killing people.
  3. Not sure if this is the right forum, but Battlespace Flight Services is hiring for deployed LR positions. I know several people there and the money is excellent. See the ad posted at guardreservejobs.com https://www.guardreservejobs.com/newjobboard/jobs/rpa-pilot-5/
  4. I went from declining continuation to actual separation in 1 month. The virtual outprocessing checklist can be completed in a couple of days if you're already done with TAPS and the separation physical.
  5. If it's any consolation to Reaper guys not making the cut for that second look, there are much better opportunities on the outside right now.
  6. 2. I don't work for an airline, but I filed my travel voucher with my current employer before I departed on my last trip. Our travel lady filled it out for me, I signed it and had my money before my plane landed.
  7. I was notified the day before public release for both my Major's boards. Continuation was offered the day before public release as well.
  8. The GI Bill is a recruitment benefit. Transferability is a retention benefit. That's why you have to do 6 then sign up for 4 more.
  9. I'd rather remarry my exwife.
  10. There's no rank on this forum, at least not any I care about since I promoted myself to Mister. Frankness is a virtue.
  11. Understand that your husband's number 1 priority during UPT must be UPT. He'll be spending 80+ hours per week on that, especially near the beginning. That won't leave much time for staying in touch. If "long distance relationship" means 1 long phone conversation on the weekend, y'all will be fine. If "long distance relationship" means multiple phone calls and texts per day, y'all will probably have a bad time. You being busy with school is probably for the best. Him being a non-drinker is a non-issue as long as he's cool with being the DD. Good luck to the both of you!
  12. Those factors certainly don't help. That said, if I was still flying 135s, I and my millions of dollars of training would still be in the Air Force. I never even considered remaining in to fly MQ-9s. 0 AGL 8.0s with no TDY or deployments, fuck that.
  13. Plenty of dudes nonvolled to RPAs are getting out due to "aircraft type/mission".
  14. AMC would be healthy on pilots if they could have back all the people dragooned into MQ-9 GCS's. I'd have stayed in the Air Force if I was still flying KC-135s. Now, I'm happy as a contractor. I can't imagine the amount of money it would take to get me to come back. Probably about the same as what you'd have to pay me to remarry my exwife.
  15. The trick to summoning the hot ones is to grab the Ship's Wheel at the Viking.
  16. Could someone define "VEO" for me?
  17. I guess things have changed since the 80s and early 90s. I'll take the downgrade for GK.
  18. I was an Army Brat for 16 years, with most of those years spent living on base. I literally never once saw this happen.
  19. The AO would likely insist that you call the hotel and get a copy of your bill because the hotel will be able to provide that.
  20. Are there any significant policy disagreements between her and DeBlasio? NYC would be trading in a generic liberal with low approval ratings and lack of charisma for ... a generic liberal with low approval ratings and a lack of charisma. What would be the point?
  21. For the sake of argument, let's say that Hansen and Manning each caused the same amount of damage. I'd still support a lighter sentence for Manning. Hansen knowingly caused harm for money. Manning thought she was doing the right thing (obviously she wasn't). The law accounts for motive when assigning punishments, and it usually accounts for mental illness as well. I can't imagine there would have been much uproar if Manning had originally been sentenced to 7 years. If Manning had been found guilty of "aiding and abetting the enemy", 35 years would have been fine. But she wasn't. Further, I think Obama did everyone a favor by making this problem go away. The next President doesn't have to deal with hysterical conspiracy theorists making Manning into a martyr if she manages to succeed with another of her suicide attempts. The taxpayers are also off the hook for a sex change operation. The law was upheld and a criminal punished with a reasonable sentence that accounted for mitigating circumstances while also being severe enough to deter future leakers. I'm ok with this result.
  22. Pollard, Hansen, & Ames betrayed the US for money. Manning is a mentally ill dipshit who should have lost her clearance well before she did her damage.
  23. The sailor in question got 1 year in jail, Manning got 35. Some quick googling indicates that the normal sentence for similar crimes to Manning's is 3 years or less. 7 years in Leavenworth and a dishonorable discharge seems like enough to me.
  24. This is a hilariously accurate depiction of civilian life. I'm not in the airlines, but do a flying job for comparable pay. When I look back on Big Blue I think the same thing I do about my ex-wife: why the fuck did I ever put up with that?
