  1. MFLAC, call A&FRC for contact info. They're confidential, don't keep records of any kind and most people I know who've used them (including myself) would recommend.
  2. Excellent point on the 26th amendment, I had not considered that. I'm not sure how much a difference it would make. Casualties in Vietnam were a lot worse. Vietnam was on the news every night, and you didn't get 200 other channels to pick from. I'd bet a week's paycheck that 50% of American's don't realize we're still in Afghanistan. I think you could run the Afghan War like we're running it now with a draft. I don't think you could run the Afghan War like we ran it in 09-12 with a draft.
  3. I've never understood this argument. The draft didn't stop us from getting into Vietnam.
  4. I bought a convertible as a Lt waiting to start UPT. After UPT, I sold the convertible to buy a wedding ring for my fiance. 5 years down the road we got divorced and now I have neither a wife nor a convertible. I miss that car.
  5. This is the correct answer.
  6. If amendments are your thing: In 2017 the GOP is exactly one state legislature short of being able to call an Article V convention.
  7. Does it come with a sweet Rebel Alliance flightsuit and helmet like the guy in the back is wearing?
  8. Just Portales being Portales.
  9. I think the popular vote argument would hold more water if the candidates had been trying to win that. Campaigns to win the popular vote would look very different than campaigns to win the Electoral College vote. The GOP just got handed the Presidency, both Houses of Congress, 33 Governorships, unified control of 32 State Legislatures and partial control of 5 more. If that isn't a mandate, the word does not have meaning.
  10. 2004 was much closer in the electoral college. It was a while ago, but we didn't know the final result until the morning after the election since Ohio was too close to call on Election day. Had Kerry eked out a win in Ohio, he'd have pulled off the Electoral College win while losing the popular vote. There was a real possibility that we were going to get a 269-269 tie, which would have been decided by a state delegation vote in the House (which the Republicans would have won handily). I imagine if Bush had won that way, after effectively winning at the SCOTUS the election prior, the left in this country would have imploded before drowning in their own tears.
  11. You could tweak it to awarding the electoral votes by congressional district, with the extra 2 electoral votes awarded to the popular vote winner of the state. That would avoid the need to adjust the length of Senate terms. I think the primary virtue of the electoral college is that it precludes us from ever having to conduct a nationwide recount in a close presidential election.
  12. I was twice passed over for promotion and separated earlier this month. I interviewed for my dream job and got it. They never asked why I didn't get promoted. YMMV. Also, there seems to be some confusion over how continuation works. I thought posting an actual continuation offer might clear some of that up. So, here's a picture of my continuation offer with my signature block scrubbed out from the bottom left:
  13. If BAH declines at your location after you're already there, you get to keep the older higher rate.
  14. Try asking the Wing Historian. He might know and he'll probably be overjoyed to know that someone knows he exists.
  15. Both. Not my problem anymore, started my contractor job last week!
  16. My understanding is that the difference is the F-16 dudes arrive on orders greater than six months, so that's a PCS. The poor bastards tricked/dragooned into RPAs are on orders less than 6 months which is a TDY, so different rules. The fact that RPA classes routinely graduate well past the six month mark means nothing since the orders say 4 months. At least they get per diem. You're right it was the previous WG/CCs policy, he's a douche also. I've yet to meet an Active Duty RPA O-6 that I would piss on if he was on fire. If they wanted money for the hotel, maybe they shouldn't have shoved the pipeline airmen into the dorms.
  17. Caveat: my experiences were 10 years ago. I saw people wash out of OTS and they were sent back to civilian life. Prior enlisted folks went back to being enlisted active duty. We had a handful of reservists, but they all graduated. UPT washouts fell into 2 categories: couldn't hack it and quitters. Quitters tended to get quickly outprocessed back to civilian life while good dudes who flew poorly were generally retrained into some other career field. YMMV.
  18. The difference is that those critiques were invalid in Reagan's case. Reagan's last movie was about 15 years before his 1980 run. In the meantime he served two terms as Governor of California. He also served in the Army in WWII and was President of the Screen Actor's Guild. Reagan was more than experienced by 1980. Trump not so much. Donald Trump has no government experience at all. I don't know how that's going to go, but we're about to find out.
  19. Worst Stolen Valor ever.
  20. I'll be a data point. I would have gladly served until 20 as a Captain with a 1:1 dwell if I was actually flying. Instead, someone at AFPC decided I should go to drones because I was on the wrong VML. Now, instead of the Air Force getting another 10 years on their investment, I'll be a contractor in 3 weeks. Deuces.
  21. I blame their parents; they raised this lot. You get exactly what you tolerate. Where are the news stories about dads showing up at college campuses to violently apply boot leather to hindquarters?
  22. If Trump really wanted to be clever and spiteful, he'd pardon her. That would tag her as a criminal while avoiding the media firestorm that would ensue from prosecuting her.
  23. Whoever he is, he's probably full of shit. I've been through border patrol internal checkpoints about 50 times and never been asked to show ID. I get asked "Are you a US citizen?" and reply "Yes." Then I'm on my way. I offered my ID the first time and they didn't want to see it. I'd like to see this sort of thing go away. So I comply with the law and support political candidates who want to change it. This "AM I BEING DETAINED?!" nonsense helps no-one and solves nothing.
  24. I'm hoping for some Nixon goes to China moments out of him. We're in desperate need of police reform, an end to civil forfeiture and some better system than Obamacare for health insurance. Whether we'll get anything like that, I have no idea.
  25. Was there any common thread with dudes dropping out?
