I am starting my search for ANG/Reserve jobs. I have 14 years AD and would like to find a full time job to finish out my 20 years and beyond if the unit lets me go past 20. Many of my buddies have fallen into AGR slots but it seems like I can't find anything. There are prospects here and there but most seems like timing...units standing up.. basically being in the right place at the right time. I have RPA experience.. 12S core right now.. have AC/MC/slick experience and what I think is a good resume but nothing seems to be out there. At this point I would accept a non-flying. There are no centralized websites for job searches.. one website has different jobs than another and it seems hit and miss. I have tried the Portal.. USAJOBS.. is there anything else out there? Should I contact units that are not advertising they are hiring? Kinda lost at this point..

Makes sense now..

When would a unit ask someone to sign a waiver? What does preventing someone from getting an AD retirement do for that unit? I have heard that some units try to help their people out to get to the 18 year point.. I talked to one unit that said they would hire me GSG (?) tomorrow and pretty much be on orders as long as I want. And as AGR jobs open, guys typically get them as they are already in the unit. And as far as man days... if a unit says they have plenty of man days that's great. It concerns me a little if I were to be on man days.. If the end of my orders are up, what are the chances on average that someone doesn't get orders again? Paying mortgage, bills, etc becomes difficult.

After 14 years AD I am thinking about going Guard or Reserve. I have been thinking the last couple years but the last O5 board made the decision a bit easier. I'm trying to learn everything I can about TR/ART/AGR etc but it's overwhelming right now. My ultimate goal is to retire after my 20 years and immediately draw retirement, so obviously an AGR position seems like the best bet. And I'm not picky.. I would accept pretty much anywhere doing anything to get an AGR. For anything other than an AGR AD service after 2008 is supposed to count towards reducing the retirement age from 60. So by the time I leave I could draw retirement at 52 or earlier after 20 good years. The question I have is on the reserve side... points.. and sanctuary. If I were to go into the reserve with 14 years would I have 5040(ish) points immediately towards my 7200? And from what I have heard when I reach 7200 points I can immediately draw that retirement..? So if I find a job even as a TR that puts me on mandays/orders continuously I could reach 6460 and declare sanctuary.. do 2 more years and draw a full AD retirement? Is it unit dependent whether this happens or not? I have read posts saying they "watch your days like a hawk" and prevent this. What is my best bet is this situation? Should I look for an AGR somewhere or take a chance as a TR at a unit that says they'll give me all the days I want?

How is someone not TERA eligible at their APZ?
-
How is he not eligible?

So what are the critical skills? I would think the CSOs are getting booted nowadays and pilots are kept...?
-
Don't have all the stats.. but overall 72% promotion rate. As far as AFSOC... the "P" had a promotion rate of 28%....just wow. Also know of one WIC (DG) passed over as well. Guess it's not an O5 patch anymore.
-
Am I reading this wrong? If they are 2x passed over for O5 they are at 15 years which takes them to 20...and sanctuary is at 18 correct?
-
I don't understand the logic.. last year people get TERA when the AF is trying to cut left and right... this year cuts are not needed and they don't offer TERA. Why offer TERA last year and not this year? What are the critical skills this year?
-
Any word on selection rate? Still at the projected 84%? Or does that come out after release? Why are captain s always continued while majors are not? I'm hoping they offer at least TERA to 2x passed over guys.

My favorite color is red.

So I have never been on the U or H sadly... as much as I wanted it since 2001 it never manifested.. so I can't speak for specific experiences on either platform. I was offered the opportunity to fly on the W when it was mobility.. and seen it move to what it is today and what it will be in a few years. That being said.. I love the fact I control the gun.. when the pilot says "gun consent on" and the tree is green.. it's me controlling the gun..shooting the gun and laying waste to ISIS/TALIBAN living my modern warfare fantasies out in real life. Additionally, the PGW is sexy in itself.. hitting a guy on the chest/ass gets more reaction in the JOC than any ballistic round will....typically.

J On the horizon.. yea 6+ years from now. As for this entire discussion... you need to choose job satisfaction vs location. I turned down U-28s to HRT for the W at Cannon. Initially I wanted either the H or U badly. Since I have been with the W I have turned down the U....at a better location. Talk to guys who actually fly both airframes.. and when I say talk I don't mean on the ing internet. Your crew position makes a difference as well.. for CSOs/FCOs/NAVs...whatever. Would you rather control the gun.. hit the button to fire.. or tell someone to do it?
-
I looked in the new JTR and can't find it right now.. but I am leaving HRT for CVS tomorrow. Of course CTO gives me the super awesome flight that get's into Amarillo at like 2330...followed by a 2 hour drive home. I remember something that allowed you to stay in lodging if the airport required travel and your travel time was early/late you were authorized to stay at a hotel/lodging. So, am I authorized to stay the night in Amarillo?

I'll send him the info.. thanks!

So what would I tell this kid ...or best way to give advice/direction?

My wife goes to college with someone who would like to join the AF through OTS and become a PJ. Anyone have any insight on if this is even possible or how difficult it would be? I have no idea how the recruiting process/pipeline is for this sort of thing.
-
How often is this list updated? Is this what is taken into account for continuation?
-
Funny how wrong that article is... yes 105 for the J and most likely the W. And enough PGWs to party as well...

Record is inconsistent...he did push it sounds like.. lack of overall group level strats. Not bitter at all...based on what my record shows..I didn't deserve a dp if other records reflected better. Just hoping I have some other options out there. Not too pumped about my inconsistent record going to the board now.. ..also..I noticed they left out combat on it..last time they made a note of my combat time..EKIA...all that. This time nothing..I am sure they all have their reasons but......
-
So..got my prf back finally..despite current leadership trying to help me out..a 1/12 ..top 5% fgos in group on last opr..wasn't enough to work a DP. Not sure if this was asked yet or discussed but any insight on TERA in the next couple years for the twice passed overs? Or will they simple get the boot? Or will they let them continue now since our numbers are the lowest ever?
