Yea, I know it's rough going to places like Guam, Thailand, and Hawaii. I feel your pain. What cracks me up is you too get PMCR for "deploying" to guam, DG, etc. $hit.. I would have you come in on a couple weekends to make up for your good deal. I always thought the reg was used for guys taking leave enroute while going home. Guys would stop in europe or wherever and stay there a couple weeks, and then start PMCR after the fact. I just wanted to see if it existed, and I didn't dream it up before I went after about it.

I seem to remember that you could delay your postmission crewrest, but I forget where a reg like that might even be. Anyone heard of it? I have been delayed again from getting outta here and now our leave is going to coincide with our postmission which is a waste of postmission. So I rather use my postmission after I come back from leave.

I update my will every year and do take all that into account..

Good website.. lots of useful info. Right now I like whatever I can have taken out of my account and go into investments and like you said, not babysit it. This stuff is like greek to me and I don't understand most of it as it is. Right not REITs have an avg return of 15-20% in some over the past 10 years. So I ask myself why not load up on REITs? Some people have told me to put a little bit in bonds which from what I have found avg a return of like 5%. So why would I do that? The S&P on the other hand has returned an average of just over 10% since like 1926. So would that not be the safest bet? I am told also to invest in short term stuff (like bonds) and long term. Why is that? The site doesn't really go into that. If this is all for retirement then don't I want long term?

My goal is to be able to retire at the age of 45 and live on 100% of the income I make at that time if I live to be 80. This is based in a 7.75% return. In order to do that I need to invest another $1700 a month. I will be $1300 closer by July.. We live fine now.. we buy too much crap as it is, eat out all the time, and need to budget. But we still live well, spend money, invest a lot and take vacations. We are dual oncome so if I retire and we struggle financially I should be shot.

? Funeral Homes?

Come July my income (dual) will increase substantially and need to invest it in something before I start spending it. We currently have investments with TSP, Roth IRA, mutual funds, index funds and own a house in NC. Is there another area I need to invest in that I have forgotten? Should I beef up one of the areas I already invest in like INDEX funds? We thought about buying a house in the San Antonio area since we plan on retiring there, and I think it will be a huge move for real estate investments.

Well I was wondering if there was fun flying to be had. And if it would outweigh the . Their site says they do counterdrug now. Wonder how far that is stretched. Again wondering if a lot of their "training" is like the "training" we did in the herk along the NC coast, asheville, niagra, etc, or what. A ROTC cadet would be fine.. better than AES flying in the back telling you the honey bucket is on fire.

Anyone have any experience with CAP? I am trying to figure out how to do some civilian flying for free or close to it and have come down to getting a CFI and joining CAP. What exactly does cap do? Would CAP take the fun out of the flying? Everything I have heard about CAP in the past years has pointed to .. I hate paying $90/hr right now to go fart around in a DA20 in the mountains. One local squadron has a 182 with a G1000, but I don't imagine I could take it to Tahoe for the day for local "training"..again I have no idea.

What base are you talking about? If you have an aeroclub there I wouldn't think it would be impossible to do, but still a pain in the arse. Ask the guy in charge of your aeroclub. If you don't have one then good luck. I think the installation commander can squash this at will as well?

Thanks..

Does anyone know what is supposed to be coming in the weeks to come? I heard they are going to narrow it down to it you are X year group and X AFSC then you have X% chance of being separated. I know the matrix is just to give you an idea as to where you stand, but how do I read into this? I am 2001 year group and my core AFSC is 12M for there is a -8 shortage for that year group AFSC. However, the total for that AFSC is a 233 surplus, and the 2001 yeargroup has a 918 surplus. There is no surplus for my core AFSC until the 1992 year group who are supposedly safe with 15 years of military service. So will that cause them to take people from an already short career field because of that 233 surplus? Or will they figure that most of that surplus will fix itself in the years to come when people separate/retire or whatever? Basically what are my chances as a 12M 2001 person?

I just made the transition to ACC from AMC a few months back and it seems as if the wing here at Beale gets only a few SOS slots a year?? At least that's the way I understood this at the OG/CC call a few months ago. My buddy at Creech also has heard the same thing where he is.. basically don't count on SOS in residence. Is this an ACC thing? When I was still at Pope SOS in residence was pretty much a given. They even sent a few people kicking and screaming.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
Chicken replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
As I said in an earlier post, my wife and I both have orders to Beale AFB from Pope AFB and we are trying to figure out the most cost effective way of doing this. We have too many cars for our own good, so I will have to tow one cross country. If I do this with a Uhaul the truck and trailor will cost $1500+. If I do that I understand the car weight doesn't count as part of my DITY weight because it is not my trailor? What if it is my trailor? Does it count then? What is the maximum weight we can be reimbursed for on a partial DITY? Both my wife and I are active duty so we can each do a PDITY. Also.. do I get reimbursed for mileage if I use a Uhaul of do I have to use my own vehicle? If so.. what are the rates? Yes.. I asked TMO. They have no idea. -
I am trying to figure out what my BAH and CONUS COLA will be monthly without dependants.. I am getting conflicting numbers from finance saying combined it will be $1200 a month, while someone else claimed that they are getting $1900 a month. Anyone here a no kidding 0-3 thatis stationed at Beale and can tell me what I can expect as an over 5 year captain a month in BAH and COLA? Thanks..
-
Well my wife and I are both active duty O-3. So both our BAH should be about $2600 combined I believe. We found a house that is 3100 sq ft.. 6 bedroom.. 4 car garage.. etc for $2300. The houses we have been looking at for sale are 3 bedroom, 2000 sq ft.. but about $500,000. I can't see myself buying a half million dollar house at this point in my life. We have been looking in Rocklin.. which is ideal for me since my family lives in Fair Oaks.. Lincoln and Roseville.
-
Both my wife and I are PCSing to Beale around Sept. What is our BAH based off of? Is it the zipcode for the base or where we choose to live? Also, anyone have ideas of the housing out there? We are planning on renting so we can get a larger house and invest some of the xtra $. Thanks.

Well I am still working on taxes form last year. I just got my 4th 2003 W2 in November.. I sure wish someone could just simply do their job correctly.

My wife and I are finally planning our honeymoon to Europe after putting it off for over 2 years. I have heard of hopping on a C17 out of charleston but but other options are there? What are the ins and outs of it? Our leave starts 9 Aug.. is it realistic that we would be able to hop on space a that day?

I believe I have seen that in some of the things we have printed out.. what types of things is this in? She uses Sweet N Low and other non sugar sweeteners daily in her coffee, as well as other drinks like crystal light, etc. Is that along the same lines?

Thanks for the help and info.. My other question is, even though she has been diagnosed by a neurologist as having migraines, can she start flying earlier if they determine it to be something else? (i.e. something found hormonally or whatever in her blood work they just did). Or, is she screwed from flying for at least a year+ now??
-
My wife went to a neurologist, per her flight doc, for headaches she would get on occasion. She was diagnosed with migraines which now has made her DNIF. She did not have a CAT scan. Is this stilla valid diagnosis without one? Is there anyway to go back on that diagnosis and say "nevermind"? Can a 2nd opinion overturn it? I have read that she can start to fly a year after her last migraine. Is this true? Who's to say we don't just say her last migraine was in March of 2003? She will be starting on various hormone type "therapy" I guess.. She has said the headaches can sometimes be bad, but not to the point she would want to give up her job. If she does have to stay DNIF for one year is it simply a matter of saying that the headaches are gone, or is there some sort of test to see if they are really gone? Also, what can a worse case scenario be? She cannot be medically discharged from the AF can she??
