Ranger Pilot Operator: Video Game Inspired Stuff

when i was a cadet in ROTC, i got a ride on a kc135. I was lucky enough to be allowed in the cockpit of said ride when I asked- no shit - "where do you adjust the mixture". this wasn't even the dumbest thing i said at that age, and yet the government has let me fly it's magical death chairs all around the world. if there was hope for me, there's hope for you- just get off your playstation, go hit on a broad or two and sign up for pilot training. have you heard that before?

still looking for something west of the mississippi (closer to vegas the better). PM me if you have any recommendations. Cobra Kai won't return my emails. Might have to use Glendal AZ's outfit but they are 4200$ + 700$ for an instructor fee.

i didn't watch the video simply because i didnt want my view added to the "times viewed" counter and furthering the fame that these clowns get every time they do this stuff.

and you can get away with sh-tty leadership/policy like this until you can't anymore. you're forgetting that the airforce is full of people. in my opinion, it is this kind of fvckupery that caused the self licking ice cream cone that is the disaster of UAV manning - people won't stay in the community because it sucks/they didn't want to fly droids, then the schedule gets worse because there aren't enough people, then people leave because the schedules sucks. it was this "shut up and color" mentality that built the uav community under gates/schwartz. another thing you're forgetting is the affect of morale. I had never experienced a squadron with low morale until I got to droids- it makes sh1t weird, and perpetuates the retention problem. staff an MWS with people who don't want to be there, and you pay the bill at the end of their ADCS because they won't stay. Here's another opinion of mine. When I left, the 18x'ers were just showing up. I thought they would gradually replace all us cranky fvcks and the morale issue would recover. it sounds like the opposite is happening and the attitude of all the disgruntled UAV controllers has now spread to the 18x community. You can create/enforce sh1tty policy/leadership like you suggest, just don't be surprised when the community sends you an invoice of low retention.

Meh, you're probably right.

the penalty of washing out was good enough for me. as a taxpayer, i'm disappointed that a UPT syllabus is spent only to have someone fly a drone. as a human, I empathize with a guy or gal that signed up for ten years of service largely to fly airplanes. I'm old and crusty now, and am generally the first guy to turn the music down and yell "get off my lawn", but i don't think the perpetrators of the "entitled generation" are the ones volunteering for the military when nationalism is low and the private sector is hiring.

I give 5/5 sh-ts as a deployed guy flying in the stack with UAVs, I hope they are on station when I show up. most uav drivers will agree (me included) that they bring plenty to the fight. this being my first time deployed, i now realize how much I underestimated how much droids contribute. It was never the mission (unsustainable schedule excluded) that made life miserable.

reading this reminded me to take a look at my surf, where i just discovered that my PAFSC is still 11u (18U, doesn't matter), but i'm filling an 11F position. they will change your AFSC based on the position you fill. what is important is your RDTM code. that code (also on your surf- right side towards the bottom middle) says what porch "owns" you. when you get to droids, the unmanned porch will control your destiny, but having your original (manned) RDTM code will at least mean that you show up on your old porch's spreadsheet should they need you back someday.

this is correct. when i was non-vol'd no one told me they wish they could fly driods- my bosses knew it would suck and suck it did. they also believed that the only chance i had of getting back in the jet was to finish out my adsc and find a guard unit who was hurting on manning/felt sorry for me and get hired. they turned out to be wrong on the latter. right now, manning is in the shitter for driods, what will happen in three years is anyones guess. I escaped because fighter manning was worse off than driod manning. with what they've done to AMC manning, who knows what will happen in three years, which brings me to the final point that jaded brought up- your leadership at creech WILL tell you to "recat" into the UAV AFSC. you will be pressured into signing on with tactics well known to interrogators, examples being "you're not being a team player" and it's better for your career". There is some truth to both of these, but if you sign, you will not go back. It is easier to excel in the droid community, and if you do well, leadership opportunities are possible. I gave it some honest thought- "do i recat and potentially have an easier time in the airforce? will it be better for my family?" Then, I had what addicts would call a moment of clarity and remembered how bad gates and schwartz ed the driod community up in the first place and i continued to resist as I still had the means to. Also, answer yourself honestly on how well you were doing in c-17s. if you do go back, you will be behind your peers by three years. If you were struggling when you left, it will be next to impossible to recover if you go back. Not everyone made the same decision. Some folks who re-catted are doing great. a lot of them are out of active duty air force. good luck.

i think he's just frustrated that before capes upgrades happen, the government will have to spend money on equipment that adds little benefit for safety in a regime of flight fighter aircraft spend little time in. but you're right- if only those "acc trained killers" would stop worrying about what keeps their asses safe over the combat zone, we could finally have some sweet civil radar feeds! not to mention the "free" in-cockpit weather. what a bunch of meat-heads.

does anyone have a phone number for cobra kai? i don't know why they're so secretive, but their website's "contact us" section only lets me leave my contact info. two attempts and they haven't return my inquiry. i suspect it's because i don't have a cell phone that they can call outside of southwest asia.

Novelty has not worn off for me yet. In fact, the prospect of potentially being sent back to droids is keeping me from signing a quarter of a million dollar bonus.

convince the endless supply of 18-22 year olds who will do anything to fly airforce aircraft that a ten year commitment is too much is when you will see change from management.

whenever i'm trying to make a point in front of a forum of college graduates I too throw out copious "douche nozzles" to assert my mental dominance.
