  1. Moved you guys out, moved us in. Perfect.
  2. But that's just this young generation who's weak, expects no challenges, and is unmotivated. /S Getting to listen to retired and/or dead-eyed old officers tell me that the young Airmen/Officers coming in have it so cushy when we're 1/4 of the force and funding these mental rust buckets had is getting old fast. Keep leading by being blatantly biased in your selection of shiny pennies who can do no wrong, writing tests that don't actually take into account skill or experience, work to destroy any sense of team morale and camaraderie and then to top it off write about "rot" that is (apparently) just starting and only occurring at the lowest ranks or how people are motivated for fried potato snacks. If we don't see a sweep out of leadership in the next 3 months then nothing will change. Those leaders who got "counseled" will hide away until the current thing blows over and then come back with mission-planning for driving to the capsule and contingency plans for insect attacks on convoys.
  3. Or you know.. a ghost writer.
  4. I'm 4 classes (currently enrolled in 2) from finishing a program at a legit school. I'm not stopping now after all this ass-pain.. it'll just make it hurt more.
  5. Thought he was too good to play the game, not get his Sq mates hammered for doing stupid stuff. Fair disclosure - I noticed he was rolled back after a few weeks and thought "Wow.. that sucks." Talked to his Sq mates and he was not liked. Got more stories of dumb training stuff just making life worse than it already had to be in that environment. Class mates thought he'd get kicked out, but like Lt. Cohen, was pushed/allowed through for some reason.
  6. Good, dude was scum bag through commissioning and we all wondered why he was allowed to stay in.
  7. Like a Chief of Staff, or Deputy/Vice? I agree with most everything you said, but wonder where we would hide those people behind the "leaders" and not undermine the leaders in today's military. I think you could have done something like this in the past with the army of aides that a leader could have. But today that doesn't seem feasible to me with the lust for power many of those types have/promote.
  8. Additional huge 2 on this. I can't believe that they've tied this so close for so long. You can't have training where you're not allowed to fail, ask questions, etc. That's just constant recertification.. over and over and over. Gotcha questions, no standardization, your career depending on 5% of a grade. Integrity? Mother F*cker, please. Plus the blatant favoritism that we all know takes place for that guy... Had guys I commissioned with that grumbled about the sorts of things that are going on up there right now. I'm glad the SecAF has these 7 items and it seems like she didn't just get to talk to the 'shinny pennies'. Any news on when the writer of that lovely editorial espousing the value of tater tots is getting RIF'd? Or is she just going to slot into replacement.
  9. Not sure if serious...
  10. Already designing mine...
  11. The wonder that is ECSS - https://spectrum.ieee.org/riskfactor/aerospace/military/the-us-air-force-explains-its-billion-ecss-bonfire
  12. Wonder who's burnout/morale is worse: Missile Crews or RPA crews.
  13. Latest news I saw was OTS board this year will only consider engineers/scientists and will consist of a single board. Not at work, so I can't source, apologies.
  14. There's a max you can put in TSP. Hrm.. taxes might be interesting this year.
  15. I would have to agree. Even though I'm older, all the bosses talk about making us Ops.. which means checklists and maintenance actions. No mind set, not effects focused which you can do even as a B-shred in base comm. I blame AFSPC. Metrics are often, "how many tickets did you close" instead of, "Can they mission plan/work/be happy." I will caveat that i'm not an A shred, so perhaps I'm missing out. I'm too old for all the cool programs (15-yrs in a month). However, they sure aren't treating us like ops, nor are we getting any info about the future of the career field. The 2-star did seem cool. I did appreciate the brief. I am excited about the future. We also have some good Cyber (old-comm) dude coming up to 24AF leadership. Hopefully we'll get the last strand of Space/Missiles (we're cyber too guys!) out of there.
  16. Well at least she's in lock step with HAF on this one. They had a "cyber town hall" where they discussed the survey they sent to all 17D's. Number on gripe... what she just said. Too bad that 15yr retirement is too much of a cut.
  17. He also herniated a disk in his back being hunched over all the time.
  18. So.. if your actions aren't guaranteed to effect a change, better to just do nothing at all? Nice... Yea, he could have used the NSA whistleblower program. I'm sure they're as independent as our IG. Not to mention the NSA has had to go back to the FISA many times with a "Oh.. well.. we weren't exactly truthful/complete with our last report/request." Your overlords must love you. So.. if your actions aren't guaranteed to effect a change, better to just do nothing at all? Nice... Yea, he could have used the NSA whistleblower program. 19. I'm getting nasty-grams for not finishing the first module (4-months in). The extra 6 months is very helpful in my situation. Thankfully, it looks like my year-group, 09, is lagging in getting it done overall. I'm still getting the "get it done now" looks from the O6's. But everyone else seems to be taking a wait-and-see approach. For overall content, seems interesting so far. Nothing too out there.. mostly a time sink. As with a online-Masters, you'll get out of it what you put into it.
  20. They've got some good quick highlights in this article as well - https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/12/19/amazing-details-from-the-drunken-moscow-bender-that-got-an-air-force-general-fired/
  21. Working now with quite a few guard peeps and I've heard the "cover optional" thing more than once. It's one of those things that just.. doesn't seem hard to do and doesn't kill morale. You had to do it through initial training (Basic/OTS/etc). Perhaps that's part of their heritage?
  22. I don't remember saying things supporting the crackdown where they grabbed books, family photos, whatever. I thought that was/is pretty stupid. I think the additional training is over blown, and the focus and leverage we're giving to the "victims of offensive material" is making us a weaker service overall. There are problems that need to be addressed, but rando swim suits isn't it. We had Maxim's confiscated here, but fitness mags were ok. Good job AF. I did side with Liquid on the sts, 69, etc stuff. I don't think those terms have a place in a professional environment. (I don't know how much you consider you Sq bar a professional environment.) I know many of you disagree and that's fine, you'll be leading the AF you can change it back later if you think it was a valuable part of your heritage. Perhaps it's just because I'm MSG that I don't get how "important" this is to everyone. Perhaps you need this stuff to kill people and break things, if so then I'm wrong. I do think it's sad the old songs, patches, and the like are being lumped in. That's true heritage of our former Airmen. Perhaps we don't use the same images/words anymore, but they shouldn't be buried, shunned and destroyed. That's a disgusting betrayal of what those men and women went through. My opinion on all of this has changed over the past 3 years as I've watched my wife struggle with the environment in her flying squadron and the blatant hostility that peers and leadership have directed towards her. I used to think the AF was fine with women and there were no problems. At least in her Sq I was wrong. Both words and actions have pushed half the females in her squadron to seek opportunities outside of the squadron and/or AF. This is in spite of the praise lauded on her by the people that have actually worked with her. It's doubly sad because she loves the flying job, but dreads the office. Like most of you all she wants to do is fly. The rumors are destructive, the targeting based solely upon the gender, the language coarse and sexualized for no reason. Should they speak up and complain? Sure they should.. but then they're ostracized more and become true outsiders in the office and on the jet. She just wants to be treated fairly and as everyone else. EDIT: Wanted to add that my grandfather retired from the AF and told both his daughter to not enlist in the AF due to how women were treated. That was back in the mid-70's. I'm not saying the service is the same as it is now, but I thought it was an interesting comment.
  23. This...wait, commanders are really dedicating extra time to this? This was viewed as a positive experience with value added? Had to check what she Sq she "led", yep finance. Must have done it during one of their training windows, or querying the Service Center on why the paperwork the jacked wasn't getting paid. This made me puke - Trying has nothing to do with the percent of effort. Wonder if she'll get a Bronze Star for this.
  24. This is due to the ACA, or some other change?.
