  1. Just the fact that there's more communication directed at the AF from him is different. Sure the vector is late in coming, but I'm sure he's just lounging around not doing anything. I mean, he is the CSAF he can do anything he wants immediately according to you guys. Hell, it took Gen Hobbins awhile to unscrew Foglesong's nonsense. Combat Proud anyone?
  2. I really think the "terrorist cell" idea is really suited for cyber stuff from our AF Nerds. Little pockets doing their own thing with a guy who reaches back to make sure the strategy overall is good. I think your LDO or even warrant officer idea is suited well for it. However, Big Blue already talked about needing more flexibility in gov't civilian pay to better leverage these guys. Additionally, if they're commissioned/enlisted there's a lot of other queep that'll get handed off to them to do while they're trying to program/infiltrate a country's systems. Nothing stops my guys from innovating faster than telling them their additional duties/volunteer/EPRs need to get looked at.
  3. Probably not counting those since this stellar performers will return to do jazz-hands at whatever MPF/Services/Comm Sq they were before. You know.. Hollywood math.
  4. FYI - there's 17D's (young&old) that still think this. This is a very big issue among my peers, at least those of us who would kill for these opportunities. I'm a prior-E Lt and I just missed the initial 6-month school and got dumped into 17DB despite my training and prior experience. I personally know guys that did offensive stuff (comm & intel) that commissioned and didn't met the STRINGENT requirements to cross to A-shred. Initial cross flow to A-shred had very difficult to achieve requirements for schools, currency, and assignments. Additionally in some training I'd meet grads w/ English/Earth Sciences/Other Bullsh#t degrees who got NSA assignments/A-shred who didn't care about Comm Cyber. That was rather infuriating, and still is since people are now cross-flowing into A-shred billets based on PCS requirements and not performance. I personally know a douche-non-select-Capt that's in the Net War school house now. I believe Cyber selection now has a preference for a technical degree, not a requirement. No one fails at the school house for poor performance, at least in the classes that I've had friends through. Try again, try again, try again, pass. Can't at least conceptualize network exploitation and how to mash IP addresses? That's ok. Sounds like UPT right? Which is how it was billed to us in the community. "This is the Cyber UPT". Nerds using pilot terms, please stop. One solution to this problem is: no Lt's through U/NWT. Capt selects and above and all do a stint in a support role as a first assignment. You can herd out the mouth breathers and send those interested/performers to the schools. It's what we're doing with the enlisted operators anyway. Finally.. we're Ops, where's our goddamn flight suits!
  5. Yes they are. Had one tell me they weren't required to do it by reg anymore so they cancelled Sq PT (which sucked) and disallowed duty time for it (outside lunch).
  6. Great reads, never been disappointed by this guys writing. Thanks for posting. THIS.
  7. Midnight showing day of release. Theater here is showing Boogie Nights right before.
  8. Oh good, I was worried Marky Mark wouldn't have a shirtless movie this year.
  9. Might be the best trailer for a movie I've seen in a long time.
  10. We heard it at OTS in '09. I am.
  11. FTFY. Every single one of my (non-flying) peers. Some have already completed SOS cor, though I think they were in the old course. We were notified in Dec. Every. Single. One.
  12. Whoa, he totally earned that.
  13. Gah, was in my full Crossfit glory for OTS, 34 in waist, max pushups/situps... still a 10:45 run. I could do pullups like a beast, but these short legs suck for runs. Also, get rid of the damn waist measurement.
  14. If it's like "cyber" leadership not until you've got guys who started at the bottom and worked up in the weapon system and can tell what it contributes, where it has been, and been through the suck together. As it appears on this board you've got leadership waiting to retire, or go back to "real" flying and not interested in leading in this new (and awesome) capability. I'm really happy we have missilers still running cyber.. makes total sense.
  15. Please note: I'm not in Ops Group (wish I was). Additionally the O6 who has ADCON over me is a personnelist, whom I've never met and can't get the clearance to access to my office. Finally, email was from a SMSgt. I'm in the third circle of hell.
  16. Got an email on Fri at 1600 CC'd to our O6 that I was "due or over-due" for Suicide Training on ADLS. Though we got rid of that for Resiliency training. Are we now doing both?
  17. I enjoyed the workplace reviews that just took place and the focus on a "better work environment" that the CSAF pushed. Then this happens and he's meeting with pissed off senators/congressfolk. https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2013/03/air-force-clemency-response031113w/ However this article had a little tidbit that I found interesting - Wut?
  18. Wonder if the evidence is weak because the Vice CC got fired for slow rolling the investigation. Not a lawyer, but this wasn't the appellate processes. It didn't go to the court of military appeals. Franklin just said, "I don't agree" and turned it over.
  19. Us cyber folks have watched as the portal has morphed into a cluster of un-navigable trash from the clean interface it once was. You can just see the "Oh, it would be great if we added this to the portal" CC idea's. CC Corner, Cyber corner, weather, Political correctness tab 1-3, etc. It started with 4 tabs at the top and one set of links. Now it's worse than AOL ever was.
  20. First point - CC's take the Shirt/Chief side. Or the CC is the one sending it again. Second point (#1) - Agree, but from my support purview the flying community is very insular. Not a bad thing since you all depend on each other, but just the lack of awareness of some of the challenges within the support community hinder our ability to help/morale and enhance our crybabyness. You know how often I get told computers/network should "just work" and the AIRCREW member who said it is dead serious. Or my second favorite, "It's just a quick fix." Is it? Third point (#2) - To a degree yes. But you guys bitch about your heritage getting jacked, what do we have left? No patches, no ball caps, no undershirts. Those are just a short list of the things gone since I've been in. My enlisted career field had heritage dating back to the 60s! So old we had Snoopy as a mascot and were proud of it. Apparently just shortly (2~4 years) before even the Comm Sq had a bar in it. Instead we get a shitty uniform where I look exactly the same as a finance, services, CE or POL guy. I work on f#ckinging networks, I build the BLOOD of the Air Force and make it work (including your shitty forwarded emails). We also build the tools to avoid the digital puke you get (SharePoint) but the old f#ck SNCO's/CC's won't use it the right way. Could I get a Comm Patch with some nerdy lightning on it or something? Or maybe a ball cap that say's 9th Comm. Also, stop outsourcing the best parts of my job to civilians, usually the retiring E5~8 who doesn't even like tech, and giving me and my Airmen only the opportunity to take your trouble call and do additional duties. Sorry for rant.
  21. Aircrew here get hammered because they miss this due to out-processing again at day 90. Damn, no call sign.
  22. Well, that's a space helmet right? Somebody tell me I'm wrong, but the space shuttle was cheaper - And the plane's not even f#cking flying yet! edit: forgot source - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_program, normally wouldn't cite wiki, but this isn't my Master's class.
  23. If I ever meet someone who argues for "Tactical Application of Band Resources" they will get kicked in the balls.
  24. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-06/air-force-trains-on-f-35s-with-balky-radar-limited-views.html Wow
