  1. This guy "mitchell.alaska" on Flickr has some of the absolute best aviation photography I've seen. Of course, I may just be partial since he's AK ANG and as a result they're mostly CSAR- https://www.flickr.co...s/25702253@N04/ Unfortunately he recently set most of his images to private or something, so the majority don't show up. Somehow using search I was able to turn up a few shots, but they're no longer the super high-res versions. That being said, if you have the time be sure to go through all of them- https://www.flickr.co...%40N04&ss=2&z=m Here's some of his air to air pics-
  2. That's actually the 920th out of Bastion, but we've never been doors off. Although I've been told that's finally going to change with the next trip over there.
  3. HD video of an U-2 flight from the cockpit- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHft6_LTA00
  4. HH-60U paying a visit to Nellis during Red Flag. Anyone out there get an update?
  5. Agreed. Barnes was headed out to Red Flag, so Westover got the nod. Picture from the 439th- Please. I like a great pointy nose flyover just as much as the next person, but talk about overplayed, nice to change it up every once in a while. The Fred got way more reaction than I've ever seen, you could see the players keep looking up. That being said, this one was a few years back at Gillette. They don't get any better. (1:35)
  6. Endanger American aircrews by purchasing an inferior product to "employ" a few dozen people and bailout Goldman Sachs once again, or just buy the best aircraft and not let politics interfere. Tough call.
  7. I don't know where else this could go...
  8. Does that mean they're going to add the AR probe, radar, etc.? Saw this article a few months back, but it didn't offer much. https://www.theredstonerocket.com/content/air-force-receives-modified-black-hawk-helicopter
  9. Someone who's been on the other side of the hiring process could probably shed more light on how it will effect your app. Assuming they don't mind, just be prepared to take heat for it in an interview. Assuming someone on the board has flown taildraggers, expect the question: Why were you doing wheel landings in significant crosswinds, instead of three (two with the wing into the wind) point landings? Or non specific questions like: Tell us about it? What have you learned? How can you prevent it from happening again? Was it a lapse in judgment, planning, or did you just get behind the aircraft? etc.
  10. Close enough... I guess this rules out Tebow though... Avoiding getting too off topic here, apparently the RAF has fallen victim to the PC police again. https://www.dailymail...en-Muslims.html To further stay on topic, lets discuss how the zipper is clearly below center line of her name tag.
  11. Or you could have spared us reading the "article" and just posted said pics. Pictures of this girl are apparently misattributed to Erin Drewes [above], but in an effort to add something worthwhile to this discussion I'll post them anyway...
  12. I'm not sure either, but it reminds me of paying insurance on shipping. Why do we have to pay in case the shipper f*ucks it up? It doesn't offer much of an incentive for getting it right.
  13. What would be more impressive is if they didn't discover a major problem after every dog and pony show. https://www.flightglo...-f-35bs-365059/
  14. You know what else says loser? Reviving a dead thread twice and responding to your own post...
  15. Someone in the history of aviation managed to crash while attempting a roll in a twin? I would have never guessed. What about the hundreds of people who've killed themselves rolling aircraft that were intended for it? As for the incident itself... Enough said. Since this has descended into "I found someone who crashed doing this," it must be dangerous, search the NTSB accident database for "aileron roll" and "barrel roll." It returns well over a hundred results, the vast majority of which are aerobatic aircraft. Since exponentially more people have died rolling aerobatic aircraft than twins, should we continue to act like it's some sort of extremely dangerous maneuver in that context as well? None, nor did I speculate on the incident. I'm simply trying to add some context to the maneuver itself to help get over how it sounds. If the pilot was doing something else "prohibited" albeit less spectacular, but equally or more dangerous, I doubt we'd even be talking about it.
  16. Beech 1900- Wow, that was pretty scary. Quite frankly I'm surprised nobody died.
  17. Three whole incidents in a year, that's an epidemic alright! I'll bet the AF has never seen anything like this before, time to get out the pitchforks and "set an example." If YouTube, camera phones, HUD tapes, and the current leadership existed 30+ years ago, we wouldn't have had a functioning AF or Army Air Corps because all the pilots would have been grounded. Yet in spite of all those "stupid things" we somehow still managed to fight and win wars. The only difference between "incidents" like these nowadays and the more serious problems which are largely ignored, is they're typically spectacular and/or on camera. All senior leadership cares about is that visibility because it makes them look bad. Until that changes they'll continue to ignore the real, insidious, and ultimately far more dangerous problems that are progressively destroying the AF.
  18. I'd say.... If this could happen to a pilot of his caliber, I can only imagine the chances a mere mortal would have.
  19. First public word I've seen about the Elmendorf crash. Does anyone have the original source? https://www.flightglo...e-crash-366028/ I don't know enough to comment all that intelligently about this, but even from the outside something just reeks. Uhhhh, what? It's not like he wasn't trying.... Interesting they're still blaming the pilot considering.... HAL anyone?
  20. This is an insult to far more than just the fallen and their families. Think about those who put their lives on the line and in many cases made the ultimate sacrifice as to not leave behind the remains of a fallen brother. Having those remains which were fought for with blood, sweat, and tears treated like this is just beyond words. Looks like the story has rightfully made its way to the front page. https://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_t2
  21. Nothing all that new here, just a few interesting notes. https://www.theredsto...hawk-helicopter https://www.defensene...822&c=FEA&s=CVS I hate to ask where this 60 million figure comes from?!?! What's the Army paying for new 60M's? This would help explain the pictures...
  22. A lot less than $700 billion....
