  1. Pull what D-HANDLE? They just took away their parachutes. BTW, I'm talking about the combat parachuting class that generally happens the day before SERE starts, not SERE itself.
  2. So are they going to save more money by not sending these dudes to combat parachuting before SERE or Water survival at Pensacola?
  3. I think the formula is Indicated Mach x 1000 x Degrees Nose Low = VVI So a lighter aircraft will require a steeper descent to maintain the same airspeed, thus a higher VVI.
  4. There is no order - it's just where you happen to start since everyone will be doing a machine and rotating to the next. Make sure if you're practicing that you're doing the 3 second up 3 second down count. It's much harder that way.. And between the three bases I've taken the test, all three had different machines - so even though you may do the same weight at each, the resistance will be different based on the type of machine. Some are easier than others.
  5. Just FYI, but Vance is the only place I've been to that does the whole "sissy squat" thing. Randolph (IFF) and Luke both make you do your body weight on the same squat machine you do for the 15 rep deal. Luke also makes you do PFT style situps instead of crunches, and they have a "top-off" of leg curls and squats at the end.
  6. What was the dude supposed to do with the winds? Isn't that kind of queepy?
  7. The Guard has Traditional Reservist (TR) and AGR slots. AGR slots are full-time gigs just like active duty. You earn a military retirement while an AGR. I'm not going to say dudes are never hired into them off the street, but I've never heard of it. Usually guys are hired, sent through the training pipeline (commissioning, UPT, IFF/RTU, SERE, Water, etc.), then they get seasoning days (still on orders). Once the seasoning days end, you're a traditional reservist. If an AGR slot is open, they can hire you into that, but from what I understand of the guard, that's rare early on. So then you either trough (heavies) or pick up man-days some other way (school tours, etc.). You do not have a full-time job. It's on you to find a job and still fly as necessary to keep current. The Reserves are a bit different, as there is a "baby-ART" program where you can get hired into a Federal Civil Service GS position in the squadron. Those are also fairly rare, but I think they happen more often than AGR jobs. The reserves also have AGR jobs in some units. Most squadrons will ask you how you plan on making a living once you're done with training, as you shouldn't automatically expect to be hired into a full time job.
  8. More stable home life? Do you have another job in mind? Unless you can find an ART/AGR job, you're going to need one when you finish pilot training. You'll need a job that will accommodate your flying schedule, UTAs, and deployments. If you get an AGR/ART job, good on ya, but I don't see how that's any more stable than an active duty gig - unless by stable you mean you don't want to move every 3 years. I would seriously think this through man. You're proposing doing 4ish years active as a non-rated type. Then you want to go find a squadron. Well you're going to have to find a squadron with openings in your career field. Once you do that, you'll have to work for them (or you can just apply for pilot slots everywhere, but you're not really going to have much of an advantage) and wait for them to have a hiring board. What if they don't? What if they BRAC? Seriously man, you're risking an almost surefire flying career for some pipedream of a stable homelife (whatever that means). I think you may want to seriously reconsider. By contracting ROTC, you've already made that choice. The question is now whether you want to be a pilot or not. If you choose non-rated, your odds decrease significantly.
  9. Why? Why not just try to get a pilot slot through ROTC and then palace chase later in life? Or leave ROTC and pursue a pilot slot with the Guard. I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to do a non-rated job just to get a rated gig.
  10. I have cookies enabled, but every time I visit the forums, I have to log in again. Seems to be an issue with this board, as I didn't have any trouble with the previous board version, or on other message boards I frequent. It's not a big deal, but I figured I'd write it up in case there's a possible fix to it.
  11. That sucks and all.. but... WTFO? What "accomplishment" is it to have a rich mommy and daddy fly you to Russia to ride in a Mig? Good on her for having parents willing to do that for her, but seriously? Oh the ironing!
  12. I think most of the washout stories you find today will be fairly mundane like couldn't do TP stalls (T-6s), couldn't land a jet with no wings (T-38), couldn't match flight lead during the flight control check in the EOR (IFF), etc. Then of course there are the people who throw up on themselves or bust too many academic tests.
  13. No one cares how nice of a guy you are in real life. You are judged by your actions. You rolled in with a goofy username bearing undeserved arrogance. You were called on it. Instead of showing your potential as a good wingman by taking it and STFU, you come up with this nonsense. You are wrong. You will always be wrong, and until you realize that you really don't know anything, your path to your "dreams" will be difficult if not unachievable. Seriously, STFU. Be a sponge. No one cares what kind of person your friends think you are or what you think you know.
  14. Mode S uses TIS (traffic information service). It's a datalink to a ground based Mode-S radar beacon sensor that computes the relative location of all traffic (intruders) in proximity to the client aircraft based on the Mode S surveillance data. IIRC, the T-6 has a Mode S transponder also.
  15. Pics of mom? (or sister [AS REQUIRED])
  16. I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because Osama people out there in our nation don't have maps...such as therefore and the Iraq... For our children.
  17. Just press on and tell them at Brooks when you go for your FC1. That's where your waiver authority (if required) will be anyway.
  18. Do it. Every minute you spend flying before UPT will help. It may not directly relate, but having SA and knowing basic concepts are huge. Formation flying is fun. Go out, learn, and have fun. Unless you're completely out to lunch, picking up on the Air Force UPT stuff won't be that hard (whiting guys do it all the time).
  19. The player in the flight room. Hook the firewire up to the player and to the computer. Rip the tape to the computer harddrive, then copy it to a flash drive or e-mail it to yourself.
  20. Just hook the player up to your computer using a Firewire and download it using windows moviemaker.
  21. As of 05/06, the reserves were sending rated types (those in the UPT/UNT pipeline) to OTS and the nonrated to AMS.
  22. You wear glasses when you fly.
  23. Xbox 360 with Rainbow Six Vegas and a 69" HD TV. Do it.
  24. Cute car. This, however, IS a real car:
