  1. If there is an exit survey when you separate, then I didn't get it. Along that same line, when I said I was separating, no one in my chain wanted to know why i was getting out...apparently a 15 year 11F, Lt Col(S) pitching out didn't seem odd to anyone....The OG/CC, WG/CC...not one "dude, what's up?" Cheers, Cap-10
  2. Mother-fucking SHACK! Cheers, Cap-10
  3. NTSB now saying: 7 seconds prior to impact, crew called to increase speed 4 seconds prior to impact, stall warning 1.5 seconds prior to impact, crew called for go-around. Aimpoint, airspeed, aimpoint, airspeed. Cheers, Cap-10
  4. Valid at Pickle? Yes. Valid at Termination? Yes. Color that man white! Cheers, Cap-10
  5. SF FD reporting 2 dead and 61 injured. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2013/07/06/plane-crash-at-sfo/ Cheers, Hoser
  6. This speaks volumes about you... Not sure where the senior leaders got the idea that dirty songs and call signs aren't really tradition, but I've recently spent some time with the likes of MOH recipient, Col. Bud Day, Col. Bob Pardo and several other Vietnam Vets including Col Ken Cordier who was a POW for over 7 tears. If you think "I used to work in Chicago" or Piano in a Whorehouse" are bad, I've witnessed these guys sing songs that make those look like nursery rhymes. When I asked them where they leaned them, they said the senoir squadron guys who saw time in Korea. You can call it what you want, but I know you will never squash call signs, 69, etc...we won't let it! CMH, Cap-10
  7. Had not heard about the 3 year tour change. We were told that only 2 of our 7 AGR spots were transitioning, but in the mean time, the AGRs would be a 1.5'ish years as a sort of stop gap until the ART start date. Cheers, Cap-10 Edit: I type goodly.
  8. Noonin speaks the truth. If getting out at the 16.9 year point, your better option would be to hope for an AGR position. They are normally 4 year tours. As you can imagine, AGRs are coveted and there is always talks of them being converted to ART positions. Good luck! Cheers, Cap-10
  9. "2" on using your Instructor Form 8 to rehack. Having said that, I did use American Flyers this most recent time...busted it out over one weekend. Cheers, Cap-10
  10. Great info...wish I would have known that 2 years ago. Thanks for the edumacation! Cheers, Cap-10
  11. If I'm not mistaken, your initial Instructor ticket, even if Mil-Comp, had to be done they the FSDO. Cheers, Cap-10
  12. If anyone gets their virtual hands on a copy of the message, please PM me and I'll provide my .mil address. I have a feeing this will be faster than waiting for my CSS to hunt down the message. Cheers, Cap-10
  13. Depends on your situation.... I'm a Reservist, but I assume its the same with the ANG. I was a Lt Col select on AD and got out before I pinned on so I could compete for (and accepted) a Major AGR billet (AGR spots can not be filled by an over grade). As far as the Reserves are concerned, I am still a Lt Col select...just have to wait for the TIG (7 years) and an O-5 billet to open up and I would then pin on. I didn't have to have a Reserve PRF written and I didn't have to meet a Reserve promotion board. Cheers, Cap-10
  14. Whole person concept not in play....shame! Cheers, Cap-10
  15. No DP...he was told it was becuase of the lack of Masters Degree...BAC+ wasn't cutting it. There was a time that SOS didn't have a DG program....in true "everyone gets a medal" spirit, they got rid of DG and instead ranked people in the Top 3rd. He had strats in his OPR's. He was told P becuase of the lack of Masters. He was also told that the Wing Flight Safety Officer, an O-4 billet being filled by an O-3, would look better than Flt/CC, so he shouldn't worry about taking that job prior to his board meeting. Cheers, Cap-10
  16. At my last squadron, we had a Capt passed over to Major. He was an UPT DG SOS Top Third Grad OIF and OEF Deployments MWS IP in the FTU Capt filling the Major's Wing Flight Safety Officer billet He had a Bac+ (he was NSTFS one class away from being masters complete) No ART 15, no paperwork, no DUI. He was passed over. Decide for yourself what Big Blue thinks is important. Cheers, Cap-10 Edit: I type goodly.
  17. Check the 4th TS at Shady J...they supplied the FTU's with all of our Sticks/Canopy Bows/display magnets, etc. Cheers, Cap-10
  18. I've received quite a few PM's the last week or two with questions about the 340th and UPT Reserve gig. I think I have responded to all, but if missed anyone, then it wasn an oversight on my part...please resend and I'll reply ASAP! Cheers, Cap-10
  19. This was a few years ago, but a friend of mine (Major, passed over to Lt Col) had taken the bonus back in the day when you could take it to the 20 year point. Big blue was in full swing of cutting the end strength numbers, so he was told he had to retire at the 20 year point. His bonus commitment took him 6.9 months past his 20 years of service date. He said he would retire at the end of the bonus commitment.... Big blue said "No!", out the door at the 20 years of service date, and we want out $12K back from the 6 months of unserved bonus commitment. It's only a contract for the Air Force to hold you by the balls...if it doesn't work for them, they will void the contract and you are gone. Plan accordingly!!! Cheers, Cap-10
  20. In my previous MWS, I knew 2 guys that got UAV's. This was back in 2011. Both were 4FL and they were mid level Capt's at the end of their first Ops assignment. Cheers, Cap-10
  21. That's how it works...every time a dude opts out, it either gets kicked back up the chain or the base gets told to figure it out. This is the main reason guys sometimes get < 30 days notice (I've seen it happen 3 times) for their deployment....6-9 people I front of them but the RNLTD never gets pushed to the right. Cheers, Cap-10
  22. I agree that Cobblestone village in Caledonia is very nice. IMHO, I think Wolfe Road can be a hard sell due to it being the 'major' (by MS standards) in/out of Caledonia, so quite a bit of traffic. If you want to send the kiddo's to Caledonia schools, you need to live North of Jess Lyons Road (or live on base)...South of Jess Lyons is in the Columbus public district. Popular private schools are Heritage Academy and Annunciation Catholic. Cheers, Cap-10
  23. I started an AGR tour 7 months after getting hired....I was still on my seasoning orders for MQT when I got it. You are correct that the normal progression is to be a TR first, then an AGR....having said that, I do know of one guy (who visit's this board) that was a direct hire into an AGR position. We have a few TR positions open here in each of the MWS's and I believe the shortage is due to the fact that, without the airlines hiring, there are a lot of dudes who want to get out but don't know what their "other" job would be....and if they have a family to support, the thought of having to support them on the 6 days a month min with no guarenteed civilian job, is a very scary proposition. Not sure what it was like 2.69 years ago but currently, all our TR's are getting at least their 6 days a month min...some pick up a few days here and there and average 6-9 a month, and when they show up, they fly....no SOF/SUP/RSU. IMHO, it's still a great job! Cheers, Cap-10
