  1. He "hopes to have it done before he retires in Fall 2020". SMH Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  2. I'm a nav who took the bonus last year and got picked up this year finally 2APZ. As pointed out above, the PhD program I'm in was probably the deciding factor, but they obviously didn't hold the bonus against me (this was the first board I met since I got the bonus, since it was never available to old guys like me). 3. Haha yeah. Considering that the reason I'm in this program is because the SECAF said "we need more engineering PhDs from civilian institutions", I had some hope there would be some emphasis put on it. But I figured if they did they would wait until I graduated! Thanks though! Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  4. Some of you may remember some of my story over the last few years. Quick recap, even tho I was a TPS grad/instructor nav, I was RIFd in 2014. I separated, became a GS and IMA, but then had it all reversed a year later through the BCMR (basically I should have never even been eligible to meet the RIF board). I knew when I accepted coming back that I was likely eternally screwed. I got lucky and I was put in charge of a new unit and got Sq/CC equivalent on my OPR/PRF. But that didn't overcome my weird looking records with a year missing "per SECAF", and not enough strats earlier on. My IPZ was moved one year behind my peers and I was still passed over, and then passed over again last year. But in the meantime I managed to get myself into a PhD slot, so I at least had that going for me. Well, against all odds, I made it this year! Not sure what the tipping point was, although I hoped it meant even more of my APZ bros were getting selected (from the stats it doesn't sound like it). So I know it doesn't help the folks who didn't make it this year, but there is hope out there! I know I'm not the typical example, but I had enough "negative" stuff in the record that I didn't think anything would overcome it (and neither did any of senior leaders I knew, and I only ever managed to get Ps because they were afraid even a DP wouldn't be enough). 5. After the great debacle of 2012, its going to be awhile before they don't offer continuation to everyone, unless there's something in your records to warrant not offering it. The bigger question is whether you'll be offered 20 or 24 years. The board instructions are usually posted on MyPers that outlines which AFSCs each year are considered critical skills and therefore will be offered 24. They make mistakes though...last year I was only offered 20 instead of 24 because my duty history looked funky, but I got them to correct it (I needed the 24 years so AFIT didn't kick me out of my PhD program!). 6. That's odd. When I did it 2 years ago it was with Autumn, and every other person I've talked to who have done it also did it with her. I didn't really find it helpful. Mostly "you need more strats and FGO awards". I would still recommend doing it the first time tho just in case something pops out. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  7. If your error was already corrected then that "should" have triggered an SSB automatically. But we know how that goes. If you were active duty, you would just email the AFPC Officer Promotions address (I don't have it off the top of my head, but it's on mypers), but for Guard, I doubt that will do any good. You probably have to go through your state weenies. If you're in CA I have a bro who can help. If not, good luck! Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah, that's my point. For folks who are leaving this summer, it makes sense for the losing unit to do them. But for folks like me, who will have been gone for well over a year by the time the next PRFs are done, it makes no sense at all. But how will AFIT strat folks?! Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  9. GPC limit is $25k, but I believe they have to get an authorization from finance or contracting to go above $5k, which is the limit before you have to go through contracting and do the three competing vendors shuffle. This is subject to change based on my memory. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  10. For those who have seen the guidance on rewriting NO PRFs for folks already in school, what's the gouge? I haven't heard anything from AFIT (although I'm sure they're not concerned until its time for the next board). Who writes these new PRFs, and who gives the strats? 11. At least you're still there. What about those of us in an AAD program for 3 years where we have a NO already? Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  12. The discussion was more about that school getting in-residence credit, and therefore make them more competitive. Unfortunately your point still stands for that as well, because even if you have "credit", it's still obvious from your records whether you attended an actual IDE program or not. So the in-res credit is basically worthless. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  13. Pretty sure that's what it's been for the last several years. Remember, that doesn't mean they'll promote 85% of IPZ. It means the total number of people they'll promote is 85% of the number of IPZ, but the BPZ and APZ folks eat into that. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  14. Yup, the Aspire is awesome. I got it right around the time I posted about the CSR issues (which I still havent cancelled yet because I need to use my $300 travel credits first). Diamond status was given within 24 hours. Another good one is the Amex Gold. They just buffed the benefits and it's a worthwhile card now. 4x points on grocery stores and dining. $10 a month credit at GrubHub and a few restaurants. $100 per year airline credit (works the same as the platinum and aspire). 15. I'm not sure if I ever saw it in writing. I'll take a look when I get a chance to see if I had any emails about it. I just know I heard it from reliable enough sources to take it as gospel...and I'm the first person to be skeptical until I see the black and white! Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  16. It was changed from 45 to 60 or 90. Can't remember which because there was so much confusion over it. But its definitely not 45 anymore. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  17. I almost found out. I took the bonus to put me at 24, because I already have a PhD commitment until then. But when I got passed over and they initially only offered 20, AFIT threatened to kick me out of the program because I'd only have one year to pay back. I could have tried to fight them on it, with the fact that big AF made the decision. But I signed all the paperwork knowing what would probably happen on each end so it was hard for me to fight that in good faith. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
  18. Confirming the confirmation on this. Once I got the corrected offer for 24, it also had the option to only accept 20. Whichever one you select, they give you an automatic DOS in the system. So no ADSC's can push you back. However, any ADSC inside of that is fair game, so if you PCS or do some type of training it could impact the ability to punch between 20 and 24. 19. Does anyone have any insight into the AF Student MLR process, and what NO push lines look like? Are NO PRFs allowed to have strats from the previous SR on the push line? Just wondering how level the playing field is at the student MLR, and if that’s unsuccessful in pulling a DP, how the NO PRF’s stack up at the actual board. Also, anyone ever write a letter to the student MLR? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I’m confused as to why they made a call and said hook him up, if they didn’t think he was worth being a Flt/CC in the first place? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. For those who would like to contribute, here’s the GoFundMe page for Hook’s family. https://www.gofundme.com/chris-quothookquot-dupin039s-memorial-fund There will be a memorial service on Saturday morning, 1000, at Eglin’s King Hangar, followed by a reception at 3rd Planet Brewery in Niceville. 22. That’s the Champ that he donated as part of our charity raffle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. For everything but the push line, yes. But there’s about a 0.01% chance a senior rater is going to give a DP or a good push to a guy who just showed up. Unless the previous senior rater makes a phone call and says look out for my guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. One more...just a few days ago Hook posted this video to Reddit. I’m sure you’ll all appreciate it! [emoji482] Hook! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. This was a Reddit post from one of the CFI’s who worked for him with some more details. There’s lots of good words about him on several Reddit threads and on jetcareers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
