  1. I wasn't aware the 174th had any actual planes left at Hancock Field. Here's the announcement: https://www.hancockfield.ang.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-141022-049.pdf
  2. Theres only six AFRC fighter units that I know of: F-16C: 93rd FS/482nd FW - Homestead ARB, FL F-16C: 457th FS/301st FW - Carswell Field/NAS JRB Fort Worth, TX A-10: 76th FS/476th FG - Moody AFB, GA F-22: 302nd FS/447th FG - Elmendorf AFB, AK A-10: 303rd FS/442nd FW - Whiteman AFB, MO F-16C/D: 466th FS/419th FW - Hill AFB, UT From here you are going to have to do the legwork. I know that Homestead had a board mid January of last year so that might be your first bet. Other than that I didn't do much research on fighter units but I can send you a list of possibly outdated POCs for those units...
  3. So finally talked to my recruiter yesterday. He pretty much confirmed what Go Falcons said in that they postponed due to not enough applicants. My recruiter's numbers were only 16 applicants and 60 UPT slots for November's board. He said that AFRC had $80 million worth of UPT slots burning a hole in their pocket for Nov. He also mentioned that they (Officer Accessions Recruiters) are being pushed hard to have everyone who is interested in UPT, apply. FWIW, the good news is my recruiter encouraged me that we should have no problem getting selected as obviously they are in need of pilots. I sure as hell hope they don't postpone it again to June...
  4. Hey Tervanum, I saw your post at airforceots.com. Im glad you were able to get some good info from the guys here as most of them are/have been in the business. When I was interested in going the RPA route, I was doing some heavy research and found one source in particular to be very informative and helpful. The author was the dude who implemented the LRE "base defense" aspect that SurelySerious mentioned. It's a good read and will also help you out with all the RPA related acronyms out there. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QGY07I?btkr=1 Congrats & cheers!
  5. Yup, i heard the same thing... Postponed until January. I heard the news from my hiring unit but still havn't been able to get ahold of my recruiter to confirm with him. Disappointing but hey, whats another 2 months in the grand scheme of things?
  6. Legwork: https://www.agd.state.tx.us/jobs/air/traditional/136/136-14-51%2011M3B%20-%20Pilot.pdf Regarding the 193rd, I came across this info from calling the ops desk and asking about upcoming UPT boards. PM me for contact info for the UPT hiring guy. Cheers
  7. Im inclined to agree with rotoguy, depending on your age. It can be beneficial to first enlist with the unit you want to fly with but it doesn't guarantee you a UPT slot by any means. From what I understand, it is pretty difficult to get a non-rated officer position with the ANG as an off the street guy. If you are still young, I would recommend enlisting in an aircrew position (loadmaster, flight engineer, boom operator, etc.) with the unit you want and work towards your PPL. Try to get your PPL quickly once you get back from tech school, work your butt off in your enlisted job and prove to the pilots and CC that you are a good dude. Also make sure you let them know your intentions of becoming a pilot with them early on. Then you should be pretty well set, as long as you're not a douche. This is what I would have done if I were back in your shoes fresh out of college. The non-prior route worked for me but a few years later in life than I would have liked. Good luck
  8. My PCSM is 93... No class dates yet, im just planning ahead. I guess it really doesnt matter. If they are going to send me then I will pack my bags with a smile on my face. I would just rather skip it if I had the option.
  9. Here's a collaboration of units that are having upcoming boards with packages due between now and the end of the year: ANG F-16: 113th W/121st FS - Washington D.C. - Packages due Sept 30th ANG C-17: 167th AW/167th AS - Martinsburg, WV - Packages due Sept 30th ANG F-16: 187th FW/100th FS - Montgomery, AL - Packages due Oct 1st ANG F-15: 144th FW/194th FS - Fresno, CA - Packages due Oct 8th AFR C-130: 911th AW/758th AS - Pittsburgh, PA - Packages due Oct 15th ANG C-130: 136th AW/181st AS - Fort Worth, TX - Packages due Oct 31st AFR C-130: 913th AW/327th AS - Little Rock, AR - Packages due Oct 31st ANG EC-130: 193rd SOW/193rd SOS - Harrisburg, PA - Packages due Oct 31st ANG C-130: 182nd AW/169th AS - Peoria, Il - Packages due Dec 31st AFR C-130: 908th AW/357th AS - Montgomery, AL - Packages due in Dec ANG C-130: 139th AW/180th AS - St. Joseph, MO - Board sometime in Dec (Must visit unit at least twice before interview consideration)
  10. Im wondering this as well. My hiring unit (AFRC) said that I would be going to IFS even though I have my PPL and that all their previous pilot trainees have gone to IFS, PPL or not. Im just wondering because I have heard conflicting information. Everywhere I read, including the DOSS pre arrival guide, says that IFS is exempt for PPL holders, but the chief pilot at my hiring unit is saying that I will go regardless. I have even heard that it is the unit's preference. Any news on this from recent AFRC UPT studs?
  11. The ANG -130 unit at Niagara is going RPA, the Reserve unit there still has their Herks. And thanks MtHerc, they seemed like a great group of guys and I am looking forward to working with them!
  12. So change of plans... Looks like I will be applying to this upcoming board as sponsored. Woohoo! I was told by the chief pilot at my hiring unit that you did NOT have to have you physical done before the board meets, just paper work started for it. Havnt been able to get ahold of my recruiter yet but can anyone else confirm or deny this? Also CeeDub, I'm fairly positive it was 100% selection rate on the last AFRC board.
  13. Hot dog! Selected for the Herk out of Niagara Falls ARS. 2.5 years in this process finally paid off! Thanks for everyones help in these forums.
  14. My recruiter and I planned to apply to this board unsponsored… until I received an email from him last week saying they are not accepting unsponsored applicants this board. As far as the FC1 before or after AFRC board goes I'm not sure. I haven't done mine yet my recruiter was planning to send my package up. Also, looks like the absolute NLT date for package submission is Oct 24th.
  15. Yeah… the news I got about it last week was that they are NOT accepting Unsponsored candidates this board, but most likely will at the next board (Summer '15).
  16. I just got in contact with a NMANG Officer Recruiter who informed me that the 150th SOW is having upcoming UPT board(s) but are restricted to residents of New Meico only. Unfortunate for me as the 150th seems like a cool wing to fly for. So just FYI for any NM residents interested in UPT. I believe he said packages are due for one of the boards sometime in October. Edit: This seems to be the same story with the AZANG as well.
  17. Yeah, I am leaning towards airlift but will be applying to the 144th FW as well as they are only about a 3 hrs drive from me… and lets face it, who wouldn't want to fly the eagle?
  18. I called the 164th AW Recruiting Office looking to get POC info for the UPT guy. I spoke to a recruiter who informed me that they ONLY hire from within and civilian applicants are not accepted… Any truth in this or should I try to step around the recruiter? If anyone has a good POC for them, please PM me. Thanks EDIT: Read a little further and found the answer to my own question. Good to know
  19. I heard from them yesterday. The board member who called me gave good feedback about the interview. He also gave the averages of the ages, scores and flight hours for those who applied and those who were selected for an interview. Zero selects for the -17 & -135 units. 1 primary and 2 alternate slots given for F-22. Lucky ducks
  20. Same here. I was offered a sit down or phone interview for two weeks from now. Curious to see how many slots they have lined up for each squadron.
  21. Great, thanks for the information.
  22. Just curious, how realistic is to be a traditional guardsman pilot and be able to afford to live in Hawaii? Do these units typically only pick up Hawaiian residents? I will be applying with the HIANG and would love to live there but I'm wondering if its even possible to live there on traditional pay.
  23. I don't have an actual press release but Lockheed put out a recent document that shows the first F-35 bases:  Burlington Air Guard Station was selected as the first Air National Guard base to host the F-35A Lightning IIs (Dec. 3)  Hill Air Force Base was selected as the new home for the Air Force's first operational F-35A Lightning IIs (Dec. 3) https://www.f35.com/assets/uploads/downloads/13567/f-35fast_factsjanuary2014_2.pdf Edit: spelling
  24. Ive been trying to get in touch with someone at the 154th Wing regarding UPT boards with no luck. Called about half a dozen numbers trying to reach someone in officer ascensions only to find answering machines. Does anyone happen to have a POC that they can PM me. Thanks
