  2. TDY thread can be found here Short, no bringing your family won't help you get a non-A, maybe a TLF; the AF Inns have to maintain maximum occupancy. Yes if you get a non-A your numbers check, however, for your lodging you only get what you actually pay, so don't think you can get a cheaper place and bank that remaining money. Also you have the option to just go off-base on you own and you'll be reimbursed up to the on base VOQ rate ($56/night) and on base ME/I, which nets you $1680 a month for lodging.
  3. I switched my residency to OK when I moved to Vance, unfortunately the GOP Rep has been firmly entrenched for years and any primary challenged usually gets demolished not to mention the Democratic candidate. I didn't say I wouldn't consider other candidates (unfortunately there isn't much libertarian influence), I'm just not voting for him period, even if he's the most agreeable one in my view.
  4. I already called my congressman's office and let them know I would not vote for them again this year, even if it means not voting since it doesn't look like they'll have a primary challenger. Yes the GOP owns this also but I blame the Dems for this because they were offered an immediate bigger savings (and theoretically a long term bigger savings, if you want to include the future money that would have been shelled out) and chose illegal immigrants over our veterans. Don't mistake my criticism and anger at them Dems for their choice as me giving the other side a break.
  5. I get what you are saying and I hold the GOP as responsible for this crap sandwich, my point was the fact that Dems blocked the restoration of the COLA cuts ($6 billion over 10 years) in favor of allowing illegals to continue to get tax benefits ($4.2 billion a year).
  6. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/17/senate-gop-fails-in-final-bid-to-restore-military-pension-cuts-to-budget-bill/ Well you can now thank the democrats for taking more money out of your wallet. To all the liberals out there congrats your congressmen and senators value illegal immigrants over your work and sacrifices.
  7. It seems the good General hasn't read the current budget proposal.
  8. You are correct, although I looked and I could only find the FWU-3(8)/Ps in black leather and Addison is closed. So technically by the AFE AFI, Bellevilles are the only authorized flight boots that you can actually wear. ETA: I stand corrected per the memo Loadsmith posted below.
  9. Yeah I agree Romney and his Romneycare is an irony, however the case could be made that this was something better left to the states (not that I'm a fan of that either). My point and I think her's as well was she doesn't want this cluster that obamacare has become was always known to be. Again we are also talking about "NY Elites", the same supposedly educated and informed people that couldn't put two and two together with this legislation in the first place, and vote with their feelings than their brains.
  10. No not in the slightest, I was just pointing out that his idea about wearing Bellevilles over Nike or Oakley boots because they wouldn't melt to you feet was wrong, nevermind the fact that your nomex flight suit only has a flame resistant lifespan of a couple dozen washes before it starts to break down. Bottom line, yes our equipment is good and it serves a valuable purpose but you also must understand its limits. I would speculate the "authorized flight boots" probably has something to do with some political deal that Belleville managed to get.
  11. "Deborah Lee James was confirmed as the next Air Force secretary by a vote of 79 to 6 on Dec. 13" https://www.militarytimes.com/article/20131213/NEWS05/312130004/James-confirmed-next-Air-Force-secretary
  12. Funny because I just checked the specs on the Bellevilles they issue at UPT and they aren't fire resistant.
  13. As long as she gets any damn money, they have no right to touch a single military member's retirement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPZBPVnrGfA
  14. https://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/14/nyregion/with-affordable-care-act-canceled-policies-for-new-york-professionals.html?_r=0 Listening to Liberals get slapped in the face with reality and then whine makes my day. ETA: Fixed link.
  15. Considering this spends more and then promises to save money 10 years from now, we all know how this goes, and never mind the fact that this gets us a budget for two years! Does anyone honestly think getting rid of the caps on spending and promising to save money a decade from now and not looking at this for two years given our fiscal problems is a good thing? Yeah touching military retirement and the pain of sequester is a problem however, it is not the worst of the problems.
  16. however, still a good read and continuing reminder that we'll never make a difference.
  17. I think Tony Carr lay's out a pretty good argument: https://www.businessinsider.com/tony-carr-pentagon-budget-vultures-target-personnel-2013-3 I think most of us understand cuts need to be made, however, the cuts should not started with those that were earned, they should be the last to be cut. Raise TriCare expenses? Ok, however, if you decide to continue to subsidize those on Medicaid and all the other wasteful healthcare programs but ask the guy missing both his legs to pay more for his healthcare, that is a huge foul. What about Congress's healthcare and retirements, yes a small drop in the bucket but if everyone has to sacrifice they should be leading the charge.

18 U.S.C. 921(b) (Brady Act): For the purposes of this chapter, a member of the Armed Forces on active duty is a resident of the State in which his permanent duty station is located. https://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-2001-5.html "Section 921(b) of the GCA provides that a member of the Armed Forces on active duty is a resident of the State in which his permanent duty station is located. The purchaser's official orders showing that his or her permanent duty station is within the State where the licensed premises are located suffice to establish the purchaser's residence for GCA purposes. In combination with a military identification card, such orders will satisfy the Brady Act's requirement for an identification document, even though the purchaser may actually reside in a home that is not located on the military base. " "Held further, a purchaser who is a member of the Armed Forces on active duty is a resident of the State in which his or her permanent duty station is located, and may satisfy the identification document requirement by presenting his or her military identification card along with official orders showing that his or her permanent duty station is located within the State where the licensed premises are located."

  20. Nothing surprising given our current fiscal climate (as a government and population). The average joe has demonstrated that the "here and now" is more important than the future by the way most people spend money or vote others to spend money (especially money neither they nor the government has); in addition fail to save or prepare for the future/retirement. Unfortunately the military is not immune from this line of thinking either. Also most members of the military don't have the benefit of seeing what those long term programs actually mean further down the road, growing up with Tricare from my parents was a huge financial benefit for them especially with kids, as well as them pulling in a pension while working full time. Unfortunately most young people's only concern (military or civilian) when it comes to finances deals with balancing partying with bills so they can eat for all 31 days of the month.
  21. No I was pointing out that saying SA is an emerging market compared to the rest of Africa is a pretty low bar given the overall state of the continent.
  22. They were a "bridge" or whatever you want to call prior to the ANC takeover, and now are in one of those nowhere to go but up scenarios, so yes they are improving but falling down a hill and then climbing back up does not count a progress. Also lets be real "emerging market" in Africa has a pretty low standard considering they are still busy massacring each other across most of the continent on any given day.
  23. Well I'm sure the "Brain Drain" from SA by all the white people (who were also the educated and professionals) due to their safety being threatened, the unemployment going from 15% prior, to 40% and now 20 years later still at 30%, and the general spiral of QOL (higher murder rate for a fifth of the population, rape capital of the world) is real "progress". The onslaught of "legitimate" articles is a dubious at best considering how many "legitimate" articles I read everyday championing asinine theories or policies by very educated people.
