  1. Because it's a retention tool and quid pro quo not a free benefit.
  2. Congrats Duck
  3. I enjoy teaching students, either in the T-6 or T-38, both have their pros/cons.
  4. That's not what I said. UPT does not produce fighter wingmen, IFF/FTU do. Formation admin and visual recognition for LoS, AA, etc... isn't rocket surgery. UPT isn't teaching tactics it's teaching admin. UPs that can't fly form admin shouldn't have graduated, at least in theory. Decreased washout rates are a side effect of pushing more pilots through the pipeline.
  5. Great point! I agree, that's why we have IFF and FTUs.
  6. No idea, it's a recent phenomenon. There's also the idea if b-course opens up a senior FAIP can just drop that airframe then and jump into the opening. SPS leadership just looking to take care of their FAIPs, no harm in that.
  7. That there won't be be a huge quality delta in t-38 grads that were taught with either a MAF or CAF instructor. Edit: in case it wasn't clear, I was saying IFF always complains about the product anyways.
  8. Not to mention the 15 year ADSC won't really matter. We're going to produce so many pilots in the mid 20s that we can deal with crappy retention
  9. Devil's advocate view: IFF squadrons a lot of times say UPs suck no matter what.
  10. Sheppard sends its FAIPs to IFF before PIT now because they are both in house.
  11. Oh boy, imagine the salt/ineffectiveness that will result from 13-15 year (15-16 commissioned) majors.
  12. FWIW, T-1 guys who have taught T-6s are now eligible to teach phase III T-38s from the last PIT syllabus revision. It specifically lists T-6s as a 2-FL equivalent.
  13. First rule of BODN is you don't talk about BODN The second rule is you don't talk about BODN Don't need the unwashed masses here.
  14. @Duck can't wait for your Wg/CC to send out the email saying the congratulations bar tab at the O'Club is on you and your fellow selects!
  15. A guaranteed T-38 slot makes you universally assignable in theory. The T-1 closes doors. Edit: ENJJPT from USAFA is solely about grades, it has nothing to do with pilot skill.
  16. N-1 left in the fleet. Not looking at this mishap itself but general obsolescence problems.
  17. Glad to hear they got out safely. Just another data point for actually procuring a T-X.
  18. You sure about that?
  19. It's the 81st Fighter Squadron. It's an 11F billet and you need to have been an A-10/F-16/F-15E 4FL and an IP in some kind of jet. They drop the requirements on the fighter porch.
  20. There is a white jet functional at AFPC. PM me your .mil and I'll give you the person's name. MWS functionals get the assignments though.
  21. +1 for Trident Home Loans. Jennifer was great and very aggressive with the builder/seller to get everything sorted out and closed on a fast timeline.
  22. RUMINT/more than: The bonus/flight pay is going away and to be replaced with professional pay FY20 ala doctors. VCSAF briefed it to UPT IPs at RND last Friday and the proposal was "approved" by SECAF the week prior, now it needs congressional approval. The pay never deceases with TAFSC unlike flight pay. You keep it as long as youre a core 11x no matter what the billet. It's tied to industry compensation and the algorithm is ran yearly. So if the economy tanks, the pay tanks. The example (separate from VCSAF) given was a major at the end of his UPT ADSC would be making around $6K PER Month additional right now.
  23. Duck congrats on your soon to be major select status. At least you won't need a 2x passed over waiver for the ARC.
  24. FWIW every T-6 reserve flight at UPT has a Unsponsored LNO.
