Dude, it’s so bad. Areas I used to go for a pleasant run in, on layovers just a few short years ago, have turned into absolute unrecognizable cesspools. It has done wonders for my mile time, however, as I’m running for my fuckin life.

Excellent post by @FDNYOldGuy well said and laid out clearly. To @DeskDriver2023: you seem to have a good attitude. Keep grinding. I know it’s a very frustrating process, if you’re wanting to fly anything painted grey and paid for by Uncle Sam, apply everywhere. Most will agree the ANG is the best of what’s left. If heavies are interesting to you, I’d highly recommend you enlist as a Loadmaster, Boom Operator or some other enlisted flying position. My buds in ANG heavy units will all agree the best chance of getting picked up there is be a bro who they’ve flown with. Hang in there, happy hunting.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a year and a half of rushing is just getting started. I know it seems like an eternity, while in your 20’s, but if you’re a gov employee, as you stated, then you certainly should understand the glacial pace the system moves in. Have you interviewed anywhere more than once? You do realize that guard units typically select pilots only once per year? So in a year and a half you haven’t even been through the cycle more than once. Other than that, the advice offered to all the others on similar threads still holds true: -Widen your net (Heavies, Reserves, USAF, USN, USMC) -Enlist in the unit -Practice your interview skills -Get more flt time -Polish up your resume -Network

I was just trying to find you a picture. As you know, air superiority is a tough one to define. Hell, even when Goering surrendered, in May 1945, and they squeezed his huge ass into the back of an L-5 the US pilot was worried he’d get jumped by 109’s on the flight. Certainly Luftwaffe effectiveness greatly decreased, but reaching the magic number of sorties, which changed many times over the course of the war, to get a ticket home was never very high percentage. (42-early 44 it was damn near mathematically impossible) The bomber boxes were flown at the higher altitudes largely to lessen the effectiveness of the German ADA. The German radar was able to track our bombers as they formed up over England. They were rarely surprised by the heavy bomber formations. I’m not saying nobody ever discussed contrails, but you can find plenty of pictures of contrails in 1943. Grandpa took some amazing pics of flak and the bomber formations in 43-44 from the top turret. Lots of contrails! Let’s just agree that saving American lives and planes, wasn’t the bomber mafia’s greatest priority, or else we would’ve been bombing at night with the Brits. If you’re not a big reader, I highly recommend a visit to the 8th AF museum in Savannah, if you’re ever around those parts, it’s fantastic. Also, I mentioned it before on here somewhere, but if you want to watch an incredible documentary that was made at the time please check this one out…

Agreed. My theory for a while now has been that the Dems were going to wait until the bitter end of Biden and “something” would happen and Newsom would swoop in to save the day. Not saying they’re going to have him killed, I mean Hillary isn’t running again or anything, but as I read that sham of an investigation, and they kept harping on just how fucking senile he is, as if that should surprise anyone, I figured that was their ticket to bring in someone else as a savior.

I haven’t watched it, and I’m certain Hollywood goes over the top, but leaking, tattered, and burning US bombers limping home was a daily occurrence, as were contrails. Read “Black Thursday” sometime, 291 B-17’s launched on Schweinfurt, 60 shot down and 17 returned and had to be scrapped due to damage.

I wish I had some solid info, but Guard units getting BRAC’d, switching airframes, or missions is entirely smoke and mirrors and the unit commanders usually find out about the same time as the news reports it. Any predictions you hear aren’t worth a shit.
