I don't know why people think government intervention is the solution to inequality, big government is the CAUSE of inequality. Welfare state policies (supported in both sides of the aisle) have encouraged a culture of dependency on gov't that ensures that more and more people will become dependent on the state. Why would someone work for minimum wage when if decreases their quality of life compared to not working? The increase in welfare, food stamps, long-term unemployment, and "disability" is a documented fact. increased corporate regulation has raised the bar to starting businesses and made it tougher to complete with established powerhouses. Corporations now spend hundreds of millions of lobbyists because they know political influence is as important as having a good business model. Any doubts, research Microsoft's habits when they were fighting monopoly charges. They didn't used to spend money on lobbyists, now they do. How about GE, you can undercut your competition if you get your friends in washington to pass tax breaks/incentives specifically to help your business, thus artificially increasing profits. How about fielding new medical equipment techniques? Good luck getting through the FDA. Not to mention the billions of our tax dollars on the failed business models of "green" projects. Government power is the problem, not the answer.

Liquid, The death of the fighter pilot culture is destroying the morale and brotherhood in fighter squadrons. Being a fighter pilot used to be a lifestyle, but you and those like you have reduced it to simply being another job. Roll calls and bar stories are dying, because everyone knows that it isn't safe to hang out there. All the informal learning that used to happen over beer/scotch is dying too, so yes our culture did make us better at our jobs. When you see retention numbers drop in the next few years, I'm sure you'll point to some other factor, but I won't be staying one day past my ADSC.

In addition to good food and beer, no PT gear and no reflective belts...you'll love it.

General curiosity, how would you gents feel about getting rid of the retirement in favor of 2 to 1 TSP/401K matching, coupled with bonuses to accept ADSCs? The healthcare benefit is losing it's luster with Obamacare looking like it's going to drive us to a single payer system. The unintended consequence of this is the AF would actually have to take care of it's people, not just pay lip service. If you have to pay guys 100K to take an assignment to Cannon, or stay in for a 365, perhaps big blue would realize these are stupid decisions that destroy QoL. It would have the fringe benefit of getting rid of many of the mid-level Officers and NCOs who are just wasting everyone's time until they can retire at 20. I would feel more comfortable leaving the AF with 300-400K in my pocket after 15 yrs than the promises of politicians that they're going to take care of me after I serve 20, especially when you factor in healthcare changes that are happening.

My opposition to gay marriage being legislated is that it infringes on an institution that is a construct of the Church. If gays want the same rights, fine, have a civil union and you'll get all the benefits you're looking for. However, this isn't viewed as good enough, because liberals want the symbolic victory of it being called marriage. Much like Obamacare forcing religious organizations to offer contraception and abortion coverage, liberals have no problems zealously pushing the separation of Church and State, but also no problem with the State dictating to the Church. Typically hypocritical of this bunch. WRT gun rights...I pledged to support and defend the constitution of the United States. Come for my guns, and we're going to have a gunfight. Liberty: Don't infringe on anyone else's liberty and you can do what you want, no matter how much I might disagree with the morality/reasonableness of your actions.

Enlisted gate months do not transfer. CEA an ACIP are two completely different programs.

O-8 loses command for using clout to help son

I remember meeting this guy prior to training, then wondering why the F a TX unit would pick up an out-of-stater. Never knew what the track select shenanigans were about...until I saw who the graduation speaker was. -
Bought and shot my new HK P30v3 in .40 last week while I was back in the states and it is my favorite HK pistol yet. It is my 3rd HK and 9th pistol. Not sure if it is my favorite, but definitely in the top 3. The other two favorites are my HK .45 Tactical and my STI Lawman with a 5in barrel (which is far superior to my Colt 1911, and doesn't hurt that it's made in TEXAS with the outline of the state on the right side of the slide.) I would recommend any of these three to anyone, but for Soon to be E6B, I would definitely go with the Springfield XD in your price range. edit: valid critique from Timbonez.

Recently saw the full animation with CVR...chilling. Any flyer that thinks this isn't relevant to their platform needs to consider a new profession.

Based on a show about the construction of the A380 (no real expertise) it has two electrically powered hydraulic systems for each control surface. Not sure exactly what is meant by "total loss" of one. They said it saved weight to not do all the redundant plumbing on that large an aircraft.

They are an FTU, but that mostly applies to aircrew. The bulk of the hiring will be MX personnel and they need experienced people. F-15 MX training is moving here from Tyndall, so they are hiring a lot of experienced people.

T-Bird mishap pilot receives CSAF safety award
Longhorn15 replied to lloyd christmas's topic in Squadron Bar
I think the difference is in making a math error in a very in a demanding flight envelope, versus basic airmanship (putting gear down), plus additional factors listed above by others. I have also worked for him, would gladly do so again, and would follow him anywhere. Definitely NOT the next "he whose name shall not be spoken." -
Most likely his being a total clown was a factor.

For all those who are using this issue to bash DADT, doesn't this case prove the opposite. Those who knew and flew with this guy, had no idea he was gay, and therefore his personal life had no negative impact on his squadron. That was the point of DADT, gays can serve (which is not a right) they just can't serve openly. Until we find out the whole story, which we probably won't, I don't think most of us can intelligently comment on this particular case. I know it is not the same, but the military asks self-discipline of people. If you can't maintain your weight, you get the boot. If you are gay, then you should understand the policy requires you refrain from homosexual behavior. They are different, but both examples of self-discipline. It is unfortunate that he served 18yrs and gets nothing, but you roll the dice and you take your chances.

Chinese Spies May Have Put Chips in US Planes
Longhorn15 replied to slacker's topic in General Discussion
Consider the source (likely Chinese, in an Indian paper), why would they leak this capability if they actually had it? -
Great Movie. Highly Recommend.

Agreed, and considering where they were captured, it should not take very long to convict them of treason and have them executed. Which would then raise the ironic circrumstance where foreigners were accorded better treatment than US citizens. I wonder what the liberals would think about that.

Ammo update: Budsgunshop.com has .223/5.56 for $7/20 rds or $350/1000. I haven't seen cheaper anywhere, has anybody else?

They are dropping from T-1/T-38 fairly equally, but the drops have slowed down from the numbers that were dropping a few classes ago. I don't know about T-44s.

Hopefully Donley and Schwartz make the change force-wide and not just for ACC. -
About the cost of 3 hrs in a -172. Have a little perspective, and realize the opportunity that is coming your way.

https://www.aimhighmodelairplanes.com They are based out of the Philippines, so their prices are real low. I own several and their work is better than the pictures would have you believe. They also customize however you want, I opted for the squadron patch carved and painted on the wood stand with my name underneath.

I have the USP Compact .40, and I absolutely love it. I have shot the XD 9mm and the Glock 23, and I also own a Colt .45. The USP Compact is by far my favorite.

For those flyers who haven't actually taken the test: It is a good measure of multi-tasking, but the way it is designed, the "flight controls" are counter-intuitive to actual flying. It is not too bad as long as you think of it as a video game, and not actual flying.
