There's countless examples of retaliatory protests turned violent or outright attacks after PR disasters. The classic sequence of events is: Assault force takes contact, a couple of 105mm's take care of threat, Taliban claim CIVCAS, weak-minded populace believes Taliban, then protests at local VSP, the ODA there takes fire from TB using protestors as human shields or diversion. And its not just limited to CIVCAS. You think Abu Ghraib wasn't used as a recruiting tool? What I think you're driving at is, we haven't gone through what these four guys went through? And you're right, I don't have it as bad as the young marine out on patrol. Im also not debating how war could drive someone to commit this act. However, someone's shitty situation doesn't make them exempt from the tactical directives, ROEs, LOAC, or Geneva conventions.

Bingo. We're better than the Taliban and AQ assholes who desecrate bodies. We're engaged in a war of perception whether you like it or not. Whether you agree with the act or not, you can't argue that this doesn't set us back tremendously. If you want to be an inhumane barbarian, go join a mercenary army in Africa. The rest of us in the professional military would like to eventually stop deploying to Afghanistan because our COIN efforts were successful.

Oh no!! Not the "threat" of Cannon!! AFSOC isn't perfect but it still is an organization to be proud of. While AMC was still figuring out how to support Haiti, CCT had the airport open with Talons and AFSOC slicks ferrying people out of the country. Col Elton was putting his career on the line to free up ramp space and get people the medical attention they deserved. And that counted for HRT's ORI. Not a bad outing for AFSOC. Bro, I'm with you on the ops tempo. I have more time in Afghanistan than HRT and CVS combined. In the last ten months I've deployed, WIC, SOS in res and now I get to go back for yet another deployment. It's taken a he'll of a toll on my family and even physical health. But being a angry or cynical old battle axe isn't going to change shit--trust me, I tried.

Like Striper and CH said, SOS is not all that bad. My goodness, what a great break from 12 hour days at the squadron. How can you not have fun at an 8-4 school that treats you like an adult and lets you BS with other bros from around the AF?

I knew Cos from Hurlburt... he was a really good dude. I can tell you that he's no shoe clerk--he's done PRT duty in Oruzgan and once more in Musa Quleh. He's a pretty laid back guy so something must've happened to provoke him to write this article. That being said, I completely agree that it's a little queepy.

300,000 people over 120 performances?! So they have 2,500 people per show? Sounds like typical AF number skewing to me (for example, when submitting an award nom for a mission, take the caliber of AAA you were engaged with and add 10mm minimum). Maybe they played at an AFA game once or twice to spin their importance to the check writers. Who knows.

I tend to agree with this dude, kind of. Anyone who thinks that shoe clerks working Monday to Friday 0730 to 1630 at al udeid deserve HFP and CZTE is smoking peyote. But, the problem is applying his logic to the pay system. I would love to see DFAS try to work this one. Then again, getting off the rotator knowing you have CZTE and HFP for the month makes dealing with the ridiculousness of al udeid slightly easier to stomach. Yup, and I find that paper vouchers are often improperly processed or take forever (last four vouchers shorted me an average of 70 bucks). I can also file DTS vouchers outside of finance's normal hours, 9:00-9:15. Like huggy, I'm not the next Leeroy Jenkins but I still manage to figure it out.
