    I don't understand your actual issue besides "finance screwed me" Finance doesn't "pay out combat tax free." The Federal government doesn't withhold taxes for the months you're eligible for combat zone tax exclusion. If the corrected W2 shows how much tax the Feds actually withheld then it is in fact a 1 for 1 substitution (or will be as soon as you file your 2016 tax return) which is due in 10 days. You do know that it's called a tax refund for a reason? You get back any taxes you overpaid the previous year. In 2016 you overpaid-blame finance, I understand-but you get it back.     Short term I think you're right. Longer term I think the airlines will find a way to decrease their demand for pilots. As the American public gets comfortable with self driving cars, how long before the idea of autonomous passenger airplanes moves into the realm of possible? I think that's the long term future of the airline industry. 5 years ago I would have said never gonna happen.

    Ive deployed to the CAOC and I made the same argument that you're making now. My point is to keep OPCON aligned with CENTCOM/AFCENT, not to 18AF/TACC. Where I agree with you is to do those jobs from Shaw/Tampa instead of in the desert. Edit:PM me if you'd like to take the discussion to .mil. There are plenty of examples of COMREL arguments taking precedence over "providing combat capabilities to the warfighters"

    Hush. You're going to give 18 AF ideas. There's plenty of OPCON that remains at Scott. There's that whole unity of command thing that makes me think OPCON should reside with the geographic COCOM, not 18AF.

    I can't link on my phone but Maj Gen Schwartz is getting fired on Jan 20. Story is on Drudge. It doesn't mention GO-1, but I wonder if this story has anything to do with it. Edit: Samsonite!     This seems like an appropriate place to ask this question: How do you put money in TSP above the standard limit? e.g. I already maxed contributions for this year at $18k. Then I got to deploy so the new limit is $53k. I keep submitting the TSP election form through MyPay and the local finance office said "we don't know, we don't do anything with TSP." And TSP said you can't write a check you have to get the service finance office to send the money in. I expected nothing less, but has anyone had success with this game?

    Good luck. When I did C-130H to J transition I kept arguing with them through MyPers. They never did accede, but I also never signed the paperwork. Eventually you'll get an email saying "refusing to sign doesn't make it go away. If you've been properly notified then you incur the ADSC" I still didn't sign and I figure I'll try to argue with someone who can read next time it comes up.     Not anymore. None of this is going to happen for those of us who are already 6-9 years in and the young pups are going to be on that new retirement plan. Which is adds a whole new wrinkle to this discussion. Guess how many days I stay past my ADSC if I can take my TSP that's been matched all along with me?
