Yep, that's a rare photo of Private James "Jimi" Hendrix of the 101st Airborne, playing guitar at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 1962. That particular guitar is at the Rock n Roll Center in Seatlle. It's a purple Danelectro and was Jimi's first-ever guitar (and the one he learned how to play on). It's valued at about half a million dollars... Cheers! M2

OK, in case anyone cares enough to be tracking the developments on this, I did return the Vector and picked up a Core All Black... But I've come to realize that the back back/light letters just doesn't cut it in lower light situations such as being indoors. That is due in part to the fact that the black/negative face on this watch reflects a lot thereby making it tougher to see the display. Also, I've learned that it also shows all the fingerprints and smudges that somehow get on the face. So then I found that Amazon.com has the Core Regular Black with the light/positive background for $190 with free shipping, so guess what I've just ordered?!? Yeah, the bezel is slightly different (the two glow-in-the-dark dots at top are missing), but for the most part I am pretty sure I will be able to glance at this watch and be able to read all the information being presented without having to squint or move the watch around. The Highgear I've been wearing for nearly seven years was the same, and I never had any issues seeing it under any conditions. I really like the Core, it's a nice watch and has some cool features (yesterday evening when a storm front rolled through the area, a weather alarm on it went off!). The compass is pretty accurate as well. I think it will hold up better than the Vector, which was a nice watch but had a bit too much plastic on it for me (especially the battery cover, which I shredded on my last two watches). It's also nice and thin, which makes wearing it under a shirt sleeve a lot easier than my old watch, which was chunky to say the least. I'm hanging on to the Core All Black until the new watch arrives, then I'll see which works better (I am pretty sure I already know, but I will still test both out) and return the other (unless I can't decide, then I'll probably keep both as they are pretty inexpensive)... Cheers! M2

Never heard of it before you mentioned it. That price is a little better than the BX but the problem is the latter here doesn't have the positive face ones in stock. No worries, that gives it the "BFPU" look I dig (and I don't mean Breast Feeding Promotion Unit!). Cheers! M2

I think I'm gona stick with the Suunto, although I might trade up from the Vector I have to a Core. I am gonna try and find one with the positive face as it is easier for my old eyes, but even if I get the "tactical" black one it seems to have larger numbers which will work better for me. KelLac is listed as a local retailer for Suunto and they're just up the road from where I work, I'll swing by there later this week and see what they've got. Cheers! M2

If he was at Augsburg then he most likely had a security clearance (AFA reported he was with the 6913th Electronic Security Squadron). I don't care how much time has gone by, he's still a deserter and should be treated as such! Secretly living in Sweden "punishment?!?" Fuck off, asshole! Step one foot in this country and go to jail!

Thanks for the inputs, oddly enough my Army O-6 boss was wearing a Suunto X-Lander this morning and I liked it. Unfortunately, the one with the positive face on it is no longer in production (only the negative one is). I'm gonna drop by KelLac this week as they are listed as a Suunto retailer. Hopefully they'll have a better selection than the Lackland BXtra or AAFES.com... Cheers! M2

Time to kickstart this thread again. I've never been a huge fan of the fancy watch, what I look for is a huge fucker with great big numbers on it so these tired old eyes can read it. That need was satisfied by the Highgear Summit... (not my pic) ...but I just killed my second and last one in the hot tub at Ko Olina two weeks ago. My loving wife and kids bought me a Suunto Vector for Father's Day but the damn thing has a negative face (black with green or gray numbers) and it's tough to see outside or in bright lights (it's not as easy to see as it shows in this pic)... (again, not my pic) I know they make these with the positive face (light background with black numbers, like my Summit above) but in my research I've found that the Suunto Core might be the better choice. If anyone has any experience with either, or has better suggestions in the $200-300 range (again, not looking for anything fancy here), I'm listening. Cheers! M2

Wow, a liberal with a sense of humor? About time we got one on this board. I watched The Guard on an overseas flight (seems to be where I catch up on flicks) and it was an interesting movie. I loved In Bruges (own it on DVD) and while The Guard didn't quite impress me as much, it was still more interesting than 69% of the current choices out there! Cheers! M2

I thought that was Chaz Bono...

You say that like it's a bad thing...

From another forum... Looks good, more along the lines of Bladerunner (which is also based on a PKD novel)! Finished watching Hatfields and McCoys today and agree entirely... Cheers! M2

I hope you (and anyone else offering info) are only responding to .MIL or .GOV emails, and that you are encrypting the sensitive information you are passing to these people of which you have no clue as to who they are. There is a reason there's not more information on this mission posted in this public forum. Go on SIPRNET if you want more, we've even got some good stuff on our BaseOps page there!

Perfectly understandable!

OK, I think the whole 'breastfeeding in public' topic has been schnitzeled sufficiently; time to move on, folks...

Well, now that they can add 'gay' in front of every minority there is; that opens up a whole new list now, doesn't it?!? -
Plus, AKs are much better counter-Zombie weapons! To quote Ordell Robbie... With that, gentlemen, this thread is closed...

Tragic, looks like one may have slipped in and the other two died trying to save him. Despite the circumstances, it was a heroic way to go...

This pic may have provided a few clues as to the timeframe... If not that, then maybe this nugget... Or the fact that it talks about her going to the 'CBPO.' Regardless, props to her, she did well! Cheers! M2 -
A review from a retired Navy aviator (so he's gotta have a sense of humor) I work with confirmed my suspicions that it is funny in parts but (according to him) not as good as Borat... I'll probably end up watching it on an overseas flight in the near future. Cheers! M2
