Seriously, colossal WTF!
-
Wow, I'm not an overly big fellow (6'2", 195 lbs) and usually conceal carry wearing shorts and a t-shirt; and I have no problems carrying my XD using a simple Uncle Mikes neoprene IWB holster. Actually, I find carrying my smaller pistols (the aforementioned PT709, PT111 and PT 738) to be more difficult due to their smaller size. I've also found my 1911s to not be easy to conceal carry due to their heavier weight. I am actually expecting the XD-S to be more in the $650 range simply due to the current prices of the XDm line. I wouldn't even bother with the BX as I've never found decent prices nor well-cared-for pistols at all the AAFES that I've been to that sell firearms. I will either order one online (I have a FFL bud who will do the transfer for free) or pick one up at a gun show if I find one at a good price (<$650). As for this "trend," I believe Glock came out with a single-stack .45 ACP sub-compact with their G36 way back in 2000; but I don't think that particular pistol is as small as the new XD-S. The S&W Shield is nice and closer in size, but not available in .45 ACP so that's not an option. Building such a small but usable .45 has been a real challenge for Springfield, and there was a lot of secrecy involved from what I have heard; but rumor is that it is a remarkable pistol and unbelievably manageable considering how small it is and the round it uses... Cheers! M2

Have we met? I've been carrying a full-sized Springfield XD-45 Service (3") concealed for 5+ years without issue. It is my #1 "oh shit" firearm (as my cop buddy describes pistols). I am anxiously awaiting the XD-S (single stack .45 with a 3.3" barrel that is only 1" width) to hit the stores... I may give up a few of my 9mm and .380 Taurus pistols (PT111, PT709 and PT 738) to get one if it's as good as I've heard. I would prefer a .45 BUG, especially one made by Springfield Armory. That's no slight on Taurus, I've had nothing but great experiences with their products; but given a choice I would still prefer a Springfield product. Cheers! M2

No different than this... Give 'em credit for overcoming a physical handicap, I see wounded warriors here at Ft Sam all the time who've done the same. It is a true test of character for those who don't like a disability stop them from doing things they love... Cheers! M2

Watch the video, guys, the rock's already been repainted although her portrait on it still needs to be added. As for the apology, I too have to agree with nsplayr (so yes, the world will end this year!). It was a stupid move on the frat's part but they did own up to it and are trying to fix things. They're stupid college kids, and anyone who didn't do dumb shit while they were in school really missed the whole point of college! Toro's got it right, give them the opportunity to prove their really sorry for their mistake, let them have a chance to make up for it, and press on. Cheers! M2

Yet another Poser...this time pretending to be a Two Star

I posted two AFOSI reports on the BaseOps SIPRNET Intellipedia page that deal with individuals posing/impersonating as military... -
Most of the responses I've gotten have favored the wooden furniture, but most of the AK enthusiasts I know are "purists" who prefer more traditional looks over the modern tactical (although these rifles only were imported from 1994-98). I know the gas block is more akin to the AK-74/AK-100 series rifles, my Saiga SGL-20 has one just like it; but I am leaning towards refurnishing the Bulgarian set and installing it. I just like the more classic look on my AKs, plus the aforementioned Saiga has the US-made polymer stuff on it. Honestly, the thumbhole stock reminds me too much of a MAK-90, not one of my favorite AKs when it comes to looks. I have a SKS-M with a thumbhole stock and it doesn't look too bad, but on an AK I am just not a fan. Oh, and the barrel's not threaded, and that muzzle brake is pinned on; so most likely it'll stay as there are limited options for replacing it. Plus, I understand it is pretty effective in reducing recoil. And I have to announce I am seriously curtailing any future acquisitions after this one, a milled AK was on top of my target list for quite some time and now that I have one, I have to throttle back on the amount of money I am spending on firearms. As you might guess, it is a considerable amount and having just written a sizable check to Uncle Sam for this year's taxes; it's one place I need to exhibit a little more spending discipline. I actually summed up the amount of money I've spent on guns over the past six years and it is a bit shocking; sure I've got a nice collection because of it but I need to start funneling money to more productive investments. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm gonna pass up any good deals that may pass my way, I'm just going to ease up on the impulse buying I've been so apt to succumb to over the past few years. At least that's the plan...we'll see how it goes! Cheers! M2

Well, here are pics of my new (to me) SLR-95... Secondly, a "concept" pic of the Bulgarian Army surplus furniture I got from Northridge yesterday. The stock will require some work to fit, and I need to add the lower tang that I got from CNC Warrior and I need a shorter bolt for the pistol grip; but this gives a general idea of what it would look like with everything installed... I'm still not sure which route I'm going to take on this AK... Cheers! M2

What in the fuck were you looking for when you found that?!?

Jesus, I hope you're joking...

Truthfully, I have; but I don't have the requisite tools/skills/time necessary to build something even that basic...

Agreed. But that doesn't stop some from debating the possibilities to death... -
If you get plans for that, share them. I've been needing something like that for quite some time...

Congrats on the 2000th post in this thread!

Finally, after being boned on a deal for a SLR-101S a few months back (the seller sold it despite my telling him I'd buy it); good fortune has finally decided to shine upon me! I've been on the hunt for a milled Bulgarian AK-47 for a while, and posted a few 'WTB' ads on various forums. One finally resulted in a hit, and up for sale was a great deal on a SLR-95 in AWB configuration... What is most cool is that while this particular rifle was nearly 200 miles away from me, it turns out the seller lives in the same neighborhood as the in-laws of a Navy LT I work with, and the latter is going there this weekend! He's gonna 'gun-run' this for me (perfectly legal) and save me the trouble and expense of having it shipped! My plans are to find some nice milled furniture that will work on it (it had one of the two tabs for the stock removed as a part of the AWB), I could put a new tab on but that would prevent me from being able to put the current thumbhole stock back on it if I ever desired to do so. All in all I am pretty happy with this score! Cheers! M2
