Now I'm a bit irritated, I ended up ordering one of those GSG-522s from Bud's earlier today, and now I noticed the price decreased by another twenty bucks! I've emailed Bud's about it, I hope they will just credit me the difference otherwise I am going to cancel my order and reorder it. Hopefully they'll honor the new price and save me the trouble, I've bought guns from them before and have always found they provide excellent customer service. Cheers! M2

I have a GSG-5 (earlier model) and while we love shooting it, it's a jammo-matic! Still, I am contemplating buying one from Bud's as that is an excellent price and hopefully the newer GSG-522s are more reliable. Plus, much of the aftermarket items I have will transfer over; so I can cannibalize mine and sell the remaining stuff for probably more than what I'd pay for a new one (oddly enough, there are a lot of people out there who want them despite their finickiness!). Cheers! M2

T-6s Grounded
By the way, there's more info on the T-6s being grounded in the CSAF Daily Ops Update on SIPRNET (there's a link on the BaseOps SIPRNET page)...

A safe provides much more security, not only from theft but if you get a decent one, from fire as well. I was just looking at an 80-gun safe this weekend. Time to upgrade! Cheers! M2

There are inexpensive guns and there are cheap guns. I put Taurus in the former (and I own four of 'em), and companies such as Hi-Point and Kel-Tec in the latter . Sure, I also have a few of the latter (such as my TEC-9) but those are more curios and novelties than anything else. I sure as hell wouldn't stake my life on any of them. If money is an issue, do your research and find a dependable but reasonably priced pistol such as the Taurus PT709 Slim. It is easy to find one for about $350 or less that is an accurate and reliable firearm which is also easy to conceal carry if you are allowed to do so. I understand not everyone has a large disposable income to spend on guns, but that still doesn't mean you have to buy crap. Do your homework, look around and there are some great firearms that can be had at decent prices. Cheers! M2

To me defensive firearms are like brakes or tires on your car...it's not something you want to save a few bucks on! That said, there are better options out there. I don't think a Hi-Point carbine is not the optimal choice for home/self defense. Personally, I think a shotgun is better, I prefer a pistol-grip Mossberg Persuader loaded with 3" 00-buckshot Magnum shells. Unfortunately, they're not the easiest thing to store, so I keep a pistol bedside just in case I can't get to my shotgun quickly. My recommendation for a pistol would be something from the Springfield XD/XDm line. As many of you know, I like the .45 ACP but a 9mm works as well. There is no caliber better than another, they just have advantages/disadvantages and it ends up being a personal preference. I would steer clear of oddball calibers like .45 GAP or 10mm simply because good defensive ammo is tough to find and expensive. The best thing would be to buddy up with someone who would be willing to take you to the range and let you shoot a couple of their pistols. Be aware that shotguns, especially 12 gauge or bigger, are not gentle weapons but they do get the job done, and done well! Cheers! M2

Guns are like trucks, you never know what appeals to some folks. Still, it's best to adopt a "live and let live" attitude about them. People tend to be pretty sensitive about their firearms. In a local forum there's a guy who claims to have some rare Yugo SKS rifle that he claims was built for civilian use, and I just don't see what's so rare about it. He's getting all defensive because I stated it looks like every other Yugo 59/66 I've owned or seen. To be honest, it's not even worth arguing about... I put Hi-Points in the same category as Kel-Tecs, there's nothing there that appeals to me but if other folks are happy with 'em, than God bless 'em...

Security Clearance questions
I wasn't born in the US either, so it's nothing to worry about it. Just do your best to include as much info on your application as possible, and be sure not to omit any negative information that may apply... Cheers! M2

Aircrew knife/knives
Um, please reference what allows the military to possess them; as the following from Wikipedia seems to state that possession is illegal... But honestly, I have not researched this in-depth to be sure. It's not LOAC, it's The Hague Convention of 1899 (Declaration III) that prohibits the "Use of Bullets Which Expand or Flatten Easily in the Human Body" Cheers! M2

Been wanting one of these for a while, so I drove to Houston to pick one up today... They're getting tough to find, and the price was right. It's an actual Cigar-built one, not a Century parts kit; and has a chrome lined barrel. I may have to install a G2 trigger group on it, but I'm going to wait to see how it shoots first as I'd like to keep it as original as possible... Cheers! M2

Amy Winehouse Dead
Correction, that report states that no illegal drugs were found in her system. That doesn't mean she couldn't have OD'd on prescription drugs or some deadly mix of those and alcohol. "...one report quoted family sources saying it could have been caused by sudden alcohol withdrawal" WTF? And how much fucking cigarettes and crack do you have to smoke to get emphysema by age 27?!?
