I just realized I haven't dazzle'd y'all with a few pics of my new M72, so to satisfy your needs for Yugoslav gun porn... And for those who enjoy something shorter in their porn (?), here's my Draco with the paracord sling mod and a Chinese AK sling on it... It works quite nice, actually! We took both out on Saturday, talk about two completely different experiences! The M72 was a hammer, I could only imaging what it would be like shooting one on full auto. Absolute destruction. The Draco was über badass, spitting fireballs out its short muzzle. Not very accurate at any range, but sure to get anyone on the business end digging into the dirt as it flung 7.62x39 their way! How this thing can qualify as a pistol is beyond me, there is absolutely no way to shoot it using just the grip and the thing just screams "SBR me!" Overall, I am extremely happy with both. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying either as their first AK; but once you start collecting them (and after you've bought at least one Russian-made one), they need to be one your short list. Next is either a M76 (expensive) or a PSL modified with better furniture (the original stock is way too short). I'm in no rush for either, as this is the time of year my gun buying goes into hibernation for the holidays. But I'm OK with that, as these last two acquisitions have ended the year on a high note, and on that bombshell... Cheers! M2

Czech There is a SAXET show this weekend (20-21 Nov) but it is up in Austin (Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Ln, Austin, Tx. 78724, map; doors open at 0900) and the next San Antonio show won't be until 3-4 Dec (San Antonio Event Center, 8111 Meadow Leaf [Marbach & 410], San Antonio, TX, 78227, map). There are some deals at the shows but don't expect that many. I like going just so I can see how certain guns feel in my hand, etc before buying. I do buy at the shows, and have a few vendors I frequent (General Firearms, Chernushin Enterprices, and AJC Sports); the first two are more C&R guns but have some AKs and such; AJC sports has new guns and great prices, but do volume sales). If you want an AR, I can hook ya up with a custom builder I know who will build you a better gun for about the same price. You might also want to swing by The Powderhorn just south of the SA Event Center on 410, they have probably the best prices of any gun shops in town and a decent selection. The folks that work there are pretty nice as well. Academy Sports isn't bad, and sometimes Dick's or Sports Authority aren't bad. As for getting a better deal through GunBroker, Bud's, J&G, etc; you might but once you factor in shipping, FFL transfer fees, etc you might be able to find something at a show or shop at about the same price. You really have to shop around, and check out TexasGunTrader.com as well. I hope that helps, and welcome back! Cheers! M2

No, the 411 FTS lost one with a Lockheed pilot in it back in March of 2009 in the Mojave Desert. The first production loss was during takeoff at Nellis on 20 Dec 2004, with the pilot ejecting safely prior to impact. And then there was this YF-22 which crashed while landing at Edwards in April 1992... I hope this turns out well, but it ain't looking good... Cheers! M2

Well, ol' Rocky might be in SA town in the near future and we may just have to see firsthand if he's as good as he's sayin'! I for one would be pretty damned impressed if he could hit a target of that size from that distance; but I am still skeptical until I actually see it. I know guys who have been on both Army and Air Force shooting teams and will ask them about whenever the contracting office gets their shit together and I can get back to work! Cheers! M2

200 yds one-handed with a 1911? I'd have to see that to believe it, and right now I'm not believing it... By the way, I moved your thread into this one. I hope you shoot better than you search! Cheers! M2

There's nothing wrong with .40, it's the caliber of choice for many law enforcement agencies across the country and is easily and cheaply found. However, some feel it is a "compromise" round that resulted from the 10mm being too "hot" for us. I don't own one simply because I try to stick with pistol calibers that I already have (.45 and 9mm, for the most part). For that price, most likely they were WASR-10s (the skeleton is a Dragunov stock, more commonly found on PSL and other DMRs). There are more things to worry about than just a canted sight, some experience mag wobble because they are imported as "sporters" (single stack, 10-round AKs) and converted by Century. Some have also been known to Once these rifles arrive from Romania, they are disassembled and the magazine wells are machined out to accept double-stack magazines, and the requisite number of U.S.-made parts are installed for 922r compliance (usually trigger, hammer, disconnector, compensator, gas piston and pistol grip). I think Century also threads the muzzles and welds on and machines new bayonet lugs. The problem is that Century doesn't have the best reputation for its builds. Someone posted this pic on a gun forum as an example of their smithing capabilities... But that's not to say that there aren't some good WASRs out there. Some have been lucky to get well-built ones from Century, but most have their local smith or someone with AK knowledge work them over to produce a fine-shooting rifle. Remember these are AKs, so they'll always work; but some just work better than others! If you can save the money, I would hold off and buy an Arsenal Saiga like the SGL-20 I picked up back in July. That thing is the best AK (and the closest thing to a true Russian AK-103, sans the folding stock) you can get these days without going to a builder and paying big bucks! Cheers! M2

Busdriver That's a decent price on the XD. It is an XD, and not an XDM, right? Still, $450 out the door would be tough to beat; but what caliber is it? And yes, Century AKs suffer from canted front sights. Not all of them, but my Yugo M70AB2 did and I sent it back to be fixed. Which AK is it? Cheers! M2

Don't forget the Sig 522... I've heard these have had a few had problems as well, but not as bad as the GSG. They are more like a "real" rifle (e.g. heavier, sturdier). I would steer clear of the M&P 15-22 as well as the GSG AK-22s... Cheers! M2

A Pro Mag magazine helped considerably, but I am still fighting a constant inability to fully load the rounds into the breech. I constantly have to cycle the bolt a second time, and this is the second breech block I've put on it. I have a bud who builds ARs that I'm going to let take a look at it. He's never smithed a GSG before but he will figure it out if anyone can. I've just shifted my focus back to AKs, which always shoot! I wouldn't not recommend getting a GSG, as it is a blast and cheap to shoot; but if you buy used be prepared that there may be similar issues especially if the gun has a lot of rounds through it... I did see new GSG-522s (the post-H&K lawsuit version) at the last gun show for under four hundred, I may end up grabbing one down the road but right now I'd rather spend my money on a PSL, M76, etc. Cheers! It is Михаи́л Кала́шников (Mikhail Kalashnikov's) 91st birthday today! Happy birthday, Михаи́л! I'm a big fan of your work! Cheers! M2

Brick "Trench art," which usually consists of carvings in the stock or sometimes 90210 stickers (I kid you not) or others (see below) on the stock or handguards, usually is desirable on military surplus weapons. Of course, this kind of stuff can be easily counterfeited; but when a rifle has matching numbers such as the M72 I got there is a better chance that it is authentic. Names and words carved in stocks tend to be more likely original in my opinion, I am suspicious of such art as the full Serbian crest etched into a stock; but you never know. Here are some examples from an AK site I frequent... And a few of "other" trench art... As for the value it adds, it all depends on the collector; but I can tell you that firearms with trench art will sell more than their non-marked counterparts! Cheers! M2

Got my Yugo M72B1 RPK today, and damn I am happy with it! You can't really tell from the above photos, but the stock and upper and lower handguards all have "trench art" on them. Well, some names were etched into them. Secondly, except for the NDS receiver, everything is matching. The stock, top receiver cover, front trunnion, everything that had a serial number stamped on it matched. The thing is almost a complete battlefield pick-up except for the receiver, which would've been a full auto since this is originally a light machine gun. Outside of the G2 FCG, NDS receiver and the US-made gas tube it's all the original parts. It's got the original Yugo hammer forged military barrel, Yugo RPK bipod and Yugo RPK adjustable rear sight! This ain't no Century parts gun, this thing saw action. A few months back I watched No Man's Land, an excellent movie about the war in Bosnia. It promoted my desire to get a M70B1 and to restore my Zastava-built M70AB2 to a more original form. I also have a Yugo M59/66 (as well as an original M59), and recently picked up a Yugo M48 Mauser. Now I have this excellent example of a M72B1 to add to that collection, I think I'm close to being done as I don't think there's much chance that I get a M53 or a DShK. Well, at least not anytime soon, my M76 sniper rifle is next! Cheers! M2

Not good...

T-bonez Will do, but it may be a while since I've dropped nearly $1300 on guns over the past two weeks! By the way, if you're looking for a good AR builder, I recommend Alex at Dreadnaught Industries! -9- That's nice, and much better looking than the standard PSL I was considering. But while I would prefer the NDS receiver, Centerfire has PSLs for $449 shipped and only $80 for a PSO-1 4x24 scope. That's $530 shipped versus $700 + shipping for the FPK (so about $730-740). See my above comment about being "gun broke" at the moment, and $200 can (almost) get you a thousand rounds of 7.62x39! Considering I also want a Yugo M76 (which run $1300 w/scope), a SVT-40 plus a number of other firearms, I have to save where I can. Maybe if I don't get a PSL in a while I may consider it, but if it weren't for the cost I would easily take one over a standard PSL. I like the stock and handguards on it much better, but those are not worth the $200 increase in price to me right now... Cheers! M2

It depends on what your kids look like. If they're ugly, then it's not a problem because you've had two chances to produce good-looking kids and failed; so it's time to put a stop to it all. If your kids are halfway cute, then it's the doctor's call. And if he thinks you're an asshole, he'll only tie one nut off!

Well, since the Draco I picked up yesterday afternoon seems to have an underfold trunnion already on it, I most likely will go this route once I get the tax stamp... Still working on arranging pick-up for the M72. Cheers! M2

Damn, when it rains it pours! I just got an email about this M72 in Houston, it's back up for sale and I've just got to have it! It's built on a NDS receiver and with a proper Yugo barrel, bipod and rear sight. It is kit build, not one of the Century-built ones! I'm trying to save my money for a PSL and a Yugo M76 sniper rifle; but this is too good of a deal to pass up! I guess maybe those will have to wait until next year! Cheers! M2 I can't help it, I love this Yugo! Here's another pic with a drum mag which doesn't come with it unfortunately!

Brick Haven't owned one, but I am more than happy with my two Taurus semi-autos (a PT111 and PT709 Slim). For that price, I'd grab it! On a different note, I am picking up a Draco AK pistol tomorrow with potential plans of one day SBR'ing it (yeah, I'll have to get the $200 tax stamp first). I've heard the trunnions are built for an underfold, but most folks go a sidefolder route with them. I haven't decided which way I'll go with it, as I have a Yugo underfold already but I am not a big fan of AK sidefolders. However, I may go with the Romanian wire sidefolder with a standard rear trunnion as that would come close to being a AIMR clone (a.k.a. the Romy Krink Clone, which the Draco was designed to be in the first place). Or I may go with a ACE VZ58 stock, as I really like the look of this: But I am not sure if that stock will interfere with the safety/selector/dust cover... Since the tax stamp will take a few months to process, there's no rush to decide. Cheers! M2

Since the boohooing thread was regurgitating the same discussion on the new motto, it was merged into this one. One thread on the new motto is more than enough...

UFB! And big surprise, she's not in the GAL. I wonder if she'll get TIG credit during her "retirement?"

Remember Antoine Dodson aka "Hide ya kids, Hide ya wives"? Now he's pitching a new Sex Offender Tracker app for your iPhone/'Droid! Still catchy! Cheers! M2

Nice, I picked up a Yugo M48 Mauser over the weekend, similar to this... I don't want to get into Mausers, but I did want a Yugo so it was inevitable... Cheers! M2
