  1. The press is reporting that Hassan might plead not guilty by reason of insanity. That kinda blows the whole theory behind it being a planned terrorist act right out of the water now, doesn't it? If he intentionally committed the murders in defense of Islam, why negate it through an insanity plea? That will kill any chance of martyrdom he would have had. It also pulls the rug out from under any theories behind his motivations, as that plea simply means he wasn't in his right mind when he committed the shootings. I am sure some will claim he is only trying to save his own neck; but given the promises of such a glorious life after death, why would that concern such a devout Muslim? The 9/11 terrorists are pleading not guilty so they can so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, if Hassan was following their lines, than why didn’t he follow the same tact? I think what we are seeing is the real truth behind this attack…that it was the actions of a deranged individual, and not some planned terrorist operation...
  2. Copy, but the "accepted" Air Force terminology to use in such cases is "Noted." Cheers! M2
  3. Honestly, I've never understood the argument that gate guards (military or civilian) are "saluting the sticker"...the car isn't commissioned, is it? It's idiotic, you don't salute the Wing Commander or some general's staff car if their not in it, why POVs? The sticker only indicates that the vehicle is registered to an officer, it doesn't mean the occupant is one and unless the person driving it is one, they shouldn't be saluted. It's ridiculous that a spouse or other dependent is rendered a salute they do not deserve, and now that the USAF has gotten rid of base decals (a smart move), hopefully the only people being saluted when they drive through the gate are those that are suppose to be saluted! Kayla It is OK to give them a small wave, a smile and/or a 'thanks'...the wave will not be misconstrued as a salute. "Carry on" is ridiculous; hell, I don't ever recall ever muttering that anytime in my 25 years in uniform. It is too Army/Marine Corps... And see my previous comment as to what I think the whole thing is ridiculous. The only individuals in the Air Force who warrant a salute are commissioned officers... Cheers! M2

OK, it's not in the greatest shape (marked as "good"/60%), but I did get this 1917 Remington Mosin Nagant for $150 which I didn't think was too bad... I believe it is a Finn but others have suggested it could also be a Balkan or Spanish Civil War piece. I will pick it up in a few days, but I think it makes a nice addition to the collection. Not so much for shooting, but simply just to have. I wish it was in better shape, and the numbers don't all match; but for the price it is a nice piece of history! Cheers! M2
  6. I remember that show, it wasn't that bad especially considering the shit MTV shows today. What sucks is that Ober wasn't that much older than I am! First report said it was a heart attack, but a later article said he was suffering from "flu-like" symptoms prior to his death...
  7. And remember that annual tours count as AD time, which is what put me over my four year point when I came back on AD...
  8. Once again, STRATFOR does a pretty good job tackling the topic...
  9. I agree, as his chances of a fair trail are greater with a court martial. Regardless of his motivations, he needs to be held accountable for his actions, and this would be the perfect opportunity to bring back the execution option...

Ginger Get some while you can! AIM Surplus .380 Ammo Cheers! M2
  11. Either way, the fact that Hassan will be tried in a military court indicates that authorities are not treating this like a planned terrorist attack...

If you are waiting for .380 from Cabela's, be prepared for a long wait! Back when I had my P3AT, I ordered some ammo from them and after many months, they finally canceled the order. It was one of the reasons I traded that pistol for a Taurus PT111, 9mm can be found at Walmart these days...
  13. Well, she finally wised up...

Holy crap, that's a sweet 1911! But could ya post some bigger pictures?!? Are you gonna shoot it or just keep it on display? Cheers! M2
  15. This. Don't fold under the media sensationalism surrounding this incident. Hassan will get a court martial and justice will be served; but trying to act like this is another 9/11 is unfounded at the moment. Circumstantial evidence such as praying at the same mosque as the 9/11 terrorists is not a direct linkage, and the claims that he was yelling "Allah Akbar!" while shooting have not be confirmed. I think he was a nut case that simply popped his cork. The Army prefers that he is label a terrorist as that relieves them of their culpability for what happened. They knew this guy was a loose cannon and a lackluster officer; but in typical Army response, they were going to deploy him anyway. I know a lot of people use that route to get out of deployments, but you can't forget that some people are simply nuts and shouldn't go. Ft Hood has the highest suicide rate in the Army, and double that of the national average. PTSD plays a significant part in that, and despite not having experienced combat firsthand; Hassan was subjected to the horrors of many soldiers who had. It is called Secondary PTSD and is a significant issue not only for the families of soldiers but those that treat them as well. Given Hassan's unstable mental state, this could have certainly been a contributing factor in what he did. None of this is to excuse or relieve him of his actions, but just to understand the situation better. As I said, justice will be served and Hassan has a better chance of a fair trial from the military than he would in a civilian court. But unless there is evidence that this was a planned and coordinated attack, calling it a terrorist event is purely media-driven hyperbole...

Concur, so far I've had nothing but good experiences with them; as have numerous people I know. They are actually one of the best online sellers out there, so you are cleared hot! Get some! Also, I just got my C&R paperwork yesterday, so once that is processed I can have some firearms sent to my house instead of my FFL...

Are you eligible for a Texas Concealed Handgun License? If so, all the info you'll need can be found here. For Oklahoma, see here. Vandal, spray Windex down that M44 after shooting it, then clean it with whatever you normally use (Hoppe's #9, . The ammonia in Windex removes a lot of the corrosive powder in the barrel, but don't let it stay in there too long as ammonia is also corrosive. As for removing Cosmoline, there are a lot of recommendations on how to remove it on the SKSBoards.com or 7.62x54R.net; to include boiling some of the parts. One of my SKS needs some work, when it heats up I can smell the Cosmoline burning off... Cheers! M2
  18. OK, gents; a separate thread has been set up to discuss whether the Ft Hood incident was a terrorist attack or just the actions of an mentally disturbed individual. Please post all discussions in that thread and keep this one focused on the event itself. Here's the link: Was Ft Hood a Terrorist Attack?
  19. OK, this discussion needs to happen here and not in the thread on the incident. I've moved a few posts over to get the ball rolling, but keep the terrorism-related arguments here and not in the other thread!
  20. Actually, a buddy of mine who is a patch dealer mentioned making a morale patch to address the reflective belt issue (although I don't think he can make it from the actual belt material); if there is a lot of interest I will get in touch with him to see what he can do... Here are some from his current line... Cheers! M2

Vandal Bad news, brother; it's a slippery slope! I only intended to buy one, and now I have not only all of those in the pictures, but a few more and a couple on the way! Did you get the M44 at a Big 5? I heard they can be found there at a great price; but unfortunately there are none in this area. I have two Izhevsk M44s (one is on its way) and it is a lot more fun to shoot than the standard 91/30 (which is still a lot of fun in and of itself). Be sure to extend the bayonet as it was designed to be fired that way and is more accurate. Plus, it gets everyone's attention just in time for the huge frigging fireball that occurs when you shoot it! Life is good when you've got some old Soviet milsurp! Cheers! M2
  22. OK, the bullshit debate on here ends now, if you want that discussion then take it over to the bar and pontificate all you want. If you had a post on here and it is now gone, it was either off-topic or responding to an off-topic comment, and I deleted it. Stick to the incident at Hood or argue somewhere else, but no more religious debate posts in this thread. And I hope everyone observed a moment of silence this afternoon at 2:34 EST in respect to those who lost their lives at Hood yesterday!

Have you priced M44s lately? I've picked up two in the last month, and if you think you can find one for under $100 than let me know as I will take five of them (as long as they aren't counterbored and the numbers match!). Yes, some places still offer 91/30s for under a hundred bucks (such as the hex'd MN I got from AIM Surplus, see above); but the M44 and M38 carbines for that amount can not longer be had.
  24. The count is up to 11 dead and 31 injured. The shooter was "a mental health doctor facing deployment overseas." They are not sure if that was his birth name or he that he changed it, possibly as part of a conversion to Islam. Latest reporting stated officials were not certain of his religion. Let's not go speculating until more facts are known. Don't turn this into a hate thread, and don't make linkages that don't exist. I had a good friend, a US Navy officer, who was Muslim. He was a good dude and we'd go shooting all the time...
