Initially, the topic of this thread was the fact that the majority of Americans confuse Memorial and Veterans days. Hueypilot812 was correct in saying the former honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the latter honored those who served; but honestly the distinction is not nearly as important as the fact that the American public realize that there is a lot more to this than a 3-day weekend... Regardless of his or her political leanings, anything the Commander-in-Chief makes positive remarks concerning the Armed Forces of this country, it is a good thing. But talk is one thing, and action another. Since positiveg posted a TR quote, I will include one of my favorites... "There's a time to think, and a time to act. And this, gentlemen, is no time to think." ~ Sheriff Bud Boomer Cheers! M2

T-Bonez Was at Cabela's in Buda today, looking to see if they just happened to have any .380 on the shelves despite not hearing squat from the about the order I put in months ago; and lo and behold I find a small but subsequent number of boxes of the Hornady .455 Webley, the same shown in your link and at the same price. I picked up two boxes (the total maximum they will let you buy, of any handgun ammo) just in case. There is a gent from the British Gun Pub forum that lives out near Randolph that has a beautiful Mk VI that he promised to let me shoot one day. At nearly $1/round, I figured I should bring my own ammo; but if the Gods are smiling on me I might have a Webley in my collection within a week or two... Cheers! M2

Well, it made tomorrow's Stars & Stripes...

Actually, it is a tribute to Mick Doohan...I would've preferred a Rothman's Honda, but I wasn't going to spend the cash to have one done up. Plus, I really do love the Repsol livery! Rossi bailed to Yamaha, and Hayden to Ducati (although the former will probably be a lot more successful with his new team than the latter); but Doohan was the man and I first became a Repsol fan watching him dominate the 500cc class of MotoGP back in the mid-90s... Honestly, I never liked the Kentucky Kid that much. I still rooted for him, especially during the Laguna Seca MotoGP races; but Kevin Schwantz has to be my all-time favorite American rider. What really made me a fan was his comments in the documentary Faster, the guy really has a passion to ride motorcycles! Cheers! M2

I'll just second everything IncompletePete said...especially since he threw in a reference to "The Doctor!" Cheers! M2

The 437 AW here have found the perfect way to avoid birdstrikes... Since installing this on the FREDs, birds avoid contact at all costs! Cheers! M2

Also well played! This has been a fun discussion and all that, but the truth of the matter is that there has to be more to this story than we are hearing through the media. I don't think anyone on this forum can doubt this guy's record. He is actually a warrior, a term that has become badly overused to describe everything to include blues-wearing finance airmen (nothing against blues-wearing finance airmen, but unless you are armed and facing the enemy on a regular basis, or training to do so in the interim, you are not a warrior by my definition). He has proven himself a contributing member of the team (and no jokes about my terminology, please) and as far as I am concerned, he has the right to continue wearing the uniform. Whereas I can understand both sides of the DADT argument, I honestly don't see the point in the USAF making such a big (and public) issue about one individual. Had there been some kind of incident which brought all this out to light, then it might be understandable (and that may be the case, we just don't know at this time); but unless something of that magnitude occurred there is no logic of why this is going down like this (again, no jokes about my terminology, please). All that is why I am suspecting there is more to this. But all anyone can do is speculate and debate. Thatโs a great way to kill time if youโre bored; but it wonโt make any of us any smarter until we have the real facts. As such, to pre-empt the locking of this thread due to the topic becoming schnitzelโd, I respectfully request we end the argument over policy and speculation of the events behind this until we get some real info (if that even ever happens). And my apologies for the over-use of parentheses! Cheers! M2

Exactly. That is the "don't ask" portion of "don't ask, don't tell." The "authorities" are not allowed to pursue gays; so either he "told," or there is something else going on here... My money is on the latter.

I applied for a new car loan with USAA but when I bought my Toyota, the dealship was able to get better financing so I took it. Still, it helped having the rate quote in hand when I bought the car, otherwise I don't think they would have beaten it by as much! As for mortgages, I am with Slacker. USAA's rates can be beat, and you can save a considerable amount of money by doing so. As for insurance, I wouldn't go anywhere else even if the rates where a little cheaper. I doubt Progressive/Geico (yes, the cavemen people) or any others can beat their service even though they may beat their rates by a bit. Cheers! M2

Let me Google that for you...

Don't download this movie, buy the DVD! I got it last week and just got the opportunity to watch it last night. I don't care about Capt Kirk or any other action flick that may come out this year, this is absolutely the very best movie of 2009 and one that every American should watch! This is the old patch, I am sure the new one will be similar... More info on it here and here (this one has the new patch on it); and a little history on the squadron here. And if you want patch ideas, look here. Welcome to Minot! Cheers! M2

For one, I am not sure why you read Women Today magazine; but we'll save that discussion for later. Secondly, while Olds' daughter may not be liable for the financial obligations and back taxes, his estate is. So technically she isn't the one being pursued for the debts, his estate is. The request is to try and find a way--other than selling his memorabilia--to satisfy these financial obligations and taxes. I honestly don't suspect a scam here, as Olds' daughter isn't from Nigeria; but the claim that his estate cannot be touched is simply not correct. Debts against the estate must be settled before any proceeds can be given to the beneficiaries. If you want to read up more on it, try this link. Otherwise, I hope that settles it, let's not clutter up this thread with further discussion on the legal matters concerning Olds' estate. If anyone wants to debate it further, we can take it to the bar in another thread. Cheers! M2

Actually, since the latest offer I got on .380 was $1/round, that doesn't seem like a bad price at all! My problem at the moment is not having anything to fire some .455 from! There hasn't been any Webleys in sight, not at the gun shows, not on GunBroker.com, nowhere! By the way, our local Academy Sports have had .45 and 9mm for about $18/50. It doesn't stick around long, but at least I am seeing some on the shelves! Cheers! M2

OK, you're new here so I fixed it for ya; but anytime you post a video that may even in the slightest chance not be safe to open at work, please add a 'NSFW' in the title or within the thread before the link. Heck, some of the avatars on this forum are causing me concern. I 'occasionally' check out BaseOps from the office, and am worried that one of these days someone may see one of those animated avatars and overreact. Cheers! M2

Yeah, I know, I quoted the original post in reference to your question. The emphasis is on "permanent" is what makes it a violation of USC Title 18, ยง 2340 on Torture... Cheers! M2

JHB The highlighted section is what gives them leverage. If you read the USC I posted, you will understand how the lawyers will pick up on this specific detail and use it against the government in court....

I'll post more on this later, but for now I wanted to make sure that everybody understood that while the argument that the Geneva Convention may not apply here, US law still does... If anyone is interested, go find the declassified DOJ memos on interrogation techniques. I am going through them at this very moment for a grad school paper on Ethics due in a week; but I will post up more info after that. But in the mean time, the bottom line is that basically the detainees are spending their days reading up on our laws and playing them against us! Smart little buggers, they are; and the media just eats it all up! Cheers! M2

What you see in my previous post is about the max allowable. Consider the limits to be a 'PG-13' level, versus an 'R-rated' one... Cheers! M2 Oh, and just so I don't violate my own rules... And this one simply because I thought it was cool...

No, but you are wrong for posting a comment in this thread without including a poster! Cheers! M2

Comforting, isn't it?
