Tyler Not a true story. Read this. Cheers! M2
  4. I am also interested in how it could be waivered, I have never heard of that happening. You either have the days or you don't. Pcola, to the best of my knowledge, no AFRTOC time counts towards AD. At least it didn't 15+ years ago when I was going through the same situation. Trust me, I know how you feel, I spent a year thinking my prior time didn't count, being one day short of the requirement, until I met the young lady who worked at the AFDW Finance Office. I hope you have the same luck and find some way to punch yourself across that magic line. Cheers! M2
  5. Pcola Sorry, no. Just to make sure it's clear, only enlisted AD time counts towards getting the 'E', and as said, you need at least one day over four years of that. None of the delayed enlistment time counts, only the actual days you spent on active duty (or USAFR annual tours, as in my case; plus any time a Guard or Reservist is activated). Delayed enlistment time, IIR, all that only counts for computing your TIS. Hope that's clear. Cheers! M2
  6. What's really a shame is how this tarnishes the reputation of a great company...a company that has provided the US with some great airplanes. What is our country coming to when the bottom line is all that counts? They need to read Boeing's history and maybe it will remind them of their roots. Otherwise, this sign may come true... Cheers! M2
  7. Not really related but I lucked out because of the Reserves...I had 4 years, 0 months and 0 days of active duty from my one enlistment, but joined the Reserves for 18 months when I started college and completed two Annual Tours, which gave me an additional 30 days of enlisted active duty. Ka-ching! A lot of prior guys I knew who only did one four-year enlistment were bummed because, as you said, you need over four years of enlisted AD time to qualify as an O-1E! Cheers! M2
  8. Rotorhead Got it, thanks! Cheers! M2
  9. Thanks to everyone who replied via PMs, I only have one last question from my bud. He was curious if ANVIS was ever used by USAF UH-1 pilots? PM me if necessary. Cheers! M2
  10. Has anyone used this and can you say how it works? Any helo guys out there who have used it? I have a .MIL email address if you aren't comfortable discussing here, I was just asked about it and am trying to track down some info for a bud... Cheers! M2
  11. Concur, S.A. is a great place to live, spent three years there before going to Belgium and hope to get back after this assignment, but I would never use to the term "cool" to describe it, unless you are talking about a dip at SeaWorld or Schlitterbahn! I thought it was relatively dry there, but I moved there from Germany and am originally from Florida so everything is relative. If you are single then I would recommend living near I-35 north so you can make the run to Austin easier on the weekends. It is the place to hang out. There are also some great spots in S.A., see this thread for some ideas. Lots of outdoorsy things to do as well, mountain biking, river rafting, all sort of stuff. The Hill Country is scenic and Canyon Lake (northeast of the city) or Medina Lake (to the west) are great for water sports. And of course the food in S.A. can't be beat, but remember the best TexMex is the cheap stuff in the bad parts of town. You take your chances but the payoff is worth it! Be warned not to go around Lackland AFB on Fridays, that is Basic Training graduation day and the place is swamped with ABs and their families, and it is a zoo. Aclamaciones! M2
  12. And, not that it needs confirming, but Toro is correct. UIFs are optional for LOCs and LOAs, but if not filed in a UIF, they must go in the officer's PIF until he/she PCS's. Again, source of that info is The Military Commander and the Law and AFI 36-2907. Cheers! M2
  13. Copied from the Dos Gringos thread, but it applies here as well... The reason it took me awhile to respond was I was looking for my copy of The Military Commander and the Law. It is a great reference document and can be downloaded at: https://milcom.jag.af.mil/ It tells you what you need to know before you talk with the JA. I highly recommend getting a copy, even if you aren't a commander. It is good to know the law. According to my 2001 edition... It also goes on to say... Now that is the worst case scenario, nothing says any of that has to be done. The UCMJ gives comanders a lot of leeway on what actions they can take. More info can be found in AFI 36-2907. I would like to stress one important point...the decision to issue a LOR is the commander's, the JA is just a legal advisor in the process and has no authority to take any action against an individual. It is the commander's choice to accept a JA recommendation or not. Lastly, nothing is hardfast in the UCMJ, and obviously we don't know all the facts. Therefore, it isn't right to make any judgments based on what limited and possibly incorrect information we have, be it the Panton's Gold Bond powder video or allegations of cheating at Columbus. For better or worst, the US military legal system works, at least most of the time... Cheers! M2 [ 09. February 2005, 14:27: Message edited by: MajorMadMax ]

    Dos Gringos

Beater Plus songs like the Dos Gringos bros are singing are an Air Force tradition...very common during Viet Nam (and before some smartass makes a comment, I wasn't on active duty during Viet Nam! ). And as HD said, they were smart in how they did it. Although funny, someone at the Pantons should have realized that the Gold Bond powder vid would cause problems. The leadership are just CYA'ing as all it takes is some weenie somewhere to see it and call the EEO office to cause shit. Just another example of the PC envionment we are all suffering under... Cheers! M2

    Telescopes?

C-21 I got a nice telescope while stationed in Germany. We lived out near Sembach, and had some roof windows in our house that made it easy to gaze at the stars (the area behind our house was basically fields, looking across the B40, so no lights to interfere; and the clear skies of Germany made for some excellent viewing!). That was the same year Hale-Bop was visible (1997, same year as my first son was born). It was amazing to look at through the scope. I would sit with a Bischhof and stare at it for hours! If this is a family hobby, then I would recommend something for between $100-200. AAFES has them, you can order them from their web site if the local über-BX at Ramstein doesn't stock them. Unfortunately, the haze-filled skies of Belgium aren't as condusive to stargazing... . Must be from all that diesel oil they burn here for heat. Check out this image of the nitrogen dioxide (NO²) air pollution cloud, guess which country it sits directly over?? You can almost make out the borders of Belgium from this image! Scary, isn't it?? Cheers! M²
  19. One more to mention concerning the CSAF's Reading List... https://www.af.mil/csafreading/ You have to request titles from this list by emailing KnightB@AAFES.COM ...I don't think they are free. Cheers! M2
  20. OK, here is the correct URL for ordering publications from the AU Press web site... https://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/aul/aupress/catalog/form1.htm You can search from this URL... https://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/aul/aupress/ You can also download/order books from the USAF History Office at: https://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/publications.htm These are great deals and I highly encourage everyone to take advantage of them! Cheers! M2
  21. I will never turn down a good book, and Air University Pree will send some to you for free if you are on active duty. I can't remember or find the URL at the moment try this URL; but I am not sure if that works because I can't access .AF.MIL sites from home. I will try once I get to work), but I will hunt it down as it is a great opportunity that many people either aren't aware of or don't take advantage of. I picked up A-10s Over Kosovo through AU Press, yet another great book! Cheers! M2

    POW?

The funny part was they threatened to behead him after 72 hours. We were wondering what that would look like, considering he is a 12" action hero (sts)... Cheers! M2
  23. OK, I'll bite, what? BTW, I have ridden through WVA several times on my motorcycle going to W-P AFB, I found the scenery to be beautiful and the people to be really friendly. As a matter of fact, before I met Mingo, I really had nothing against the state! Cheers! M2
  24. Who gives a shit? I want to know if he is Rumsfeld's brother-in-law (rumor is their wives are sisters...) Seriously, he is from Williamson, West Virginia, which is in Mingo county. It is a "tribute" to his home state. Try not to when you read this... https://newsandsentinel.com/columns/story/0...04_colsmith.asp Also... https://wvweb.com/cities/williamson/ Cheers! M2

    SAF bio

ALTRV I heard that rumor the last time I was at Ramstein, that Mingo could not explain missing funds that most likely ended up in his "Combat" programs...however, I cannot confirm or deny... Cheers! M2 [ 28. January 2005, 05:51: Message edited by: MajorMadMax ]
