"According to Leon Panetta, the Obama administration did not place much trust in Mattis because he was perceived as too eager for a military confrontation with Iran." But Obama was cool with giving Iran $1.7b. In cash. As well as releasing $100b in frozen assets.

I know it's still a few days away, but I want to wish everyone a very happy Christmas, and all the best in 2019! Cheers! M2

Boeing announced its FAA certification on 4 Sep, with military certification still "pending." That said, the first one was scheduled to be delivered on 27 Oct, which passed without anything showing up... https://www.defensenews.com/air/2018/10/17/the-first-kc-46-delivery-is-not-happening-this-october/

Brick Welcome to Texas and the assfuckery that is JBSA. Have tried fighting that dragon before and was pretty much told it won't change. It is sad that no one can be trusted to carry on based other than LEOs, especially after the shooting on Medina Annex in April 2016 where a squadron commander--Lt. Col. William “Bill” Schroeder--was killed by a disgruntled TSgt who somehow wasn't stopped by the rule of no personal firearms on base. Given how ridiculous the "active shooter" response was to that event (I had to go through my organization and lock office doors as most thought it was just an exercise), and subsequent training is equally ludicrous (about as effective as "duck and covering" during a nuclear explosion), it is clear the policy is simply a CYA for the 502 ABW/CC so she/he has a chance at a second star. It doesn't matter if more people are killed, or retirees needlessly hassled because they have personal firearms in their RVs when they spend the night at Fam Camp; one person's promotion possibilities takes priority. I guess our lives just aren't important enough...

While I tend to agree, I can also see the flip side of the coin whereas the constant rotation of personnel causes equal issues... The better solution is actually having an end game to this ridiculous and endless "conflicts" we've been engaged in for the past 17+ years. At this point we are just throwing fuel on the flames and not actually working to a solution to put the fire out. I know that's grossly simplified, but until that happens, there will be no "fixing" the USAF or any other services...

Just sent some brown USAF OCP captain's rank to a friend downrange. Couldn't find them at the uniform shop, they only had the black ones (which I thought were Army, but they were listed as USAF at Lackland). Ended up going to KelLac to get them...

"Willie Newson?!?" You can't make this shit up And what exactly is a "a high-ranking lieutenant colonel?!?"

Prior that that series there was one called Apocalypse World War I that featured a lot of colorized footage as well; but Peter Jackson's effort goes far beyond that by adjusting the film speed to realistic levels and adding audio through lip readers. I will not miss They Shall Not Grow Old, I've been looking forward to it since news of its release first came out!

Watched it on my last overseas flight a week ago. It's a typical Coen movie in that it is highly creative and entertaining; but essentially it's several Western-related short stories strung together. Definitely worth a watch though...

For the state you are stationed in, you will have to check on the reciprocity of it with the state your concealed handgun licensed was issued with. Unlike your driver's license, it is not automatic. There are many websites that keep current of such agreements, such as: https://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html As for carrying on base, it is dependent on the base commander's policy. Federal law does not prohibit having a personally-owned firearm on military bases, only in Federal facilities (18 U.S. Code § 930), but some service policies (such as AR 190-14) restrict, regulate and/or limit it. Know before you go. But as stated, purchasing firearms in your state is allowed with your PCS orders.
