    Gun Talk

Picked this up on Saturday, took it to the range on Sunday. I am honestly thinking about selling my other .22LR pistols, this things is not only a blast (and easy) to shot; but it's accurate as hell as well! I put 220 rounds through it, had a few ammo-related issues but the gun itself was flawless. I think the free shipping offer is over, but the rebate is good through the end of the month and even at $250 it's a helluva deal. It doesn't hurt that it is a 1911, always beautiful handguns! Cheers! M2

If anyone can fuck up a good war pic, it's Brad Pitt! "Wardaddy??" Seriously?!? Michael Peña was on my flight from LA to SA last Saturday for the Cub Swanson UFC fight against Jeremy Stephens. I don't bother celebs when I see them on flights, I figure they want to be left alone as much as I do!

  13. Whereas O's only eat their young? It happens on both sides, but there is a logic behind the madness of an E wanting to have only O's on a board...
  14. Having been an E (NCO) at one point in my career, I can tell you that the belief is that an E will be tougher on another E than an O will. I believe it to be pretty much true.
  15. I always advocate a tiered approach. First punish the guilty, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a public execution but the details of the infraction and punishment should be shared with the troops. If that isn't effective, go for the training and awareness approach. It is in itself a form of punishment but at least there is a point to it. If that doesn't work, then it's time to get personal. Anyone who still doesn't "get it" will get to be the bad example by which others will hopefully learn (it's always better to learn from someone else's mistakes than your own!). If the issue still exists, turn up the heat; but I will never see the benefit from ridiculous actions as "mass blues day" in reaction to such problems. Mandatory uniform wear should never be a "punishment." And trust me, there is no one that wants tougher enforcement on those who are convicted of DUI/DWI than me. It is an epidemic problem in this town, and with a 16-year-old driver in the family the mere thought that some douchebag is out there driving the same roads as my son after having too much to drink keeps me awake at night. This town and state are notoriously bad at looking the other way when it comes to drinking and driving (the Spurs' GM R.C. Buford was arrested and charged with DWI three years ago, but that case was conveniently swept under the table). It is one of the uglier sides of a great city!
  16. HD, I firmly believe making an example of a few offenders goes a long way in correcting any "culture" problems that may exist in an organization. And if that method doesn't work, there are plenty of more productive ways to "adjust attitudes" than such silly antics. I simply don't see the benefit of such "mass punishment," especially when there is nothing gained from it other than a bunch of pissed off troops. Increased training and/or awareness I can understand; but dress-up day just doesn't directly address the problem or provide any type of solution. Where do commanders get such ideas that it would?!? If you want them to act like adults, then treat them like adults. And when they screw up, hold them accountable. Such games are just bullshit attempts to appear to be doing something.
  17. Agreed, public executions have always been a great deterrent. Punishing those not involved does nothing but lower morale. Why anyone in a position of leadership would believe that to be a "solution" is beyond me, and undermines the concept of personal accountability which is what should they should striving for...

I can share this now that I got my order in ( ), but this is about half of the MSRP on these great shooting pistols; and with .22LR starting to show up again, now would be a good time to grab one! GSG M1911 HGA .22LR 5'' Woodgrips, $199 shipped after $30 rebate I've shot a bud's, and it feels and handles like a standard 1911. GSG claims 80% of the parts are interchangeable with other 1911s. I've been wanting to pick one up for years, and this deal was just too good to pass up. I even went by my LGS and asked if they could match it, and they said they would lose money doing so as this price is below the dealer price. Cheers! M2

  22. I don't think anyone's disputing our efforts to get Bergdahl back no matter what the circumstances of his departure. However, if Charles Robert Jenkins can be tried 40 years after he deserted to North Korea during that way; so can Bergdahl. In 2004, Jenkins pled guilty to charges of desertion and aiding the enemy, but denied making disloyal or seditious statements – the latter charges were dropped. He was sentenced to 30 days' confinement, received a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and benefits and was reduced in rank to E-1 private (the lowest rank in the US Army). He was released six days early, on November 27, 2004, for good behavior. Although dishonorably discharged from military service (meaning that Jenkins is ineligible to display U.S. military awards, request replacements from the Army, or purchase them on his own), Jenkins' years of status as a deserter technically qualified him for several automatic military decorations which he displayed at the time of his court martial.During his years as a deserter, Jenkins was "carried on the rolls" of the U.S. Army in a desertion status meaning that he was not discharged but classified as an active duty soldier under "Time Lost" due to his AWOL status. When Jenkins surrendered himself as a deserter, the U.S. Army placed him back on the active duty rolls as a "deserter returned to military control". He was credited with 14,494 days time lost as a deserter and, by default, became eligible for all automatic service medals which had been created during his long period of absence. This included all automatic awards created for soldiers serving in Korea as well as active duty awards for service after the September 11 attacks in 2001. At his court martial in November 2004, Jenkins appeared wearing the following awards on his Army uniform: the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. (Thanks Wikipedia!) It'll be interesting to see what deal they cut Bergdahl if he is found guilty of desertion. I suspect it will be something similar. What I am most interested in is when he's going to run his first marathon!
