Put some ex-Bulgarian furniture on my Century C39. Had to replace the pistol grip screw (did that after I took this pic) and need a ferrule for the lower handguard as well, (but I'm working on that!). I've also replaced the parts pin stamped top cover and selector with proper milled versions. Both needed a little work to get to fit, but are much better than what came on the rifle. Now she looks like a proper Kalashnikov! I'm sure the fishes will appreciate that! Cheers! M2

I doubt there's much difference between Freedom's ammo and the Winchester White Box I usually use at the range. Well, except availability and price! But again, not all reloaded ammo is the same. I've seen much of the gun show bought stuff turn out to be shit. If someone's going to buy reloaded ammo, be sure to do so from a reputable source like Freedom...

Funny, we were just talking about ammo from Freedom Munitions at work this afternoon (yeah, I'm sure you're all surprised by the fact that I work with a bunch of gun people!). Normally I advise people to shun away from reloaded ammo, but I've heard nothing but good things about their stuff and given that many calibers are still tough to find, it's definitely an option. I still wouldn't buy anything from that weird guy at the gun show selling bags of ammo he reloaded; but I think Freedom is about as good as the stuff most "new" ammo manufacturers offer...

This looks like a mug shot... Of course, most ID card pictures do; but who gets one taken wearing their t-shirt?!?

Duck, the first rifle you posted is an O-PAP, which has the original (beefier) RPK receiver on it. Not really necessary with out the grenade launching capability the original M70B1 has, but still a desired trait. The one HeloDude posted is a N-PAP, which doesn't have the RPK bulged receiver on it. So what's the attraction for the grenade launcher?!? Well, first and foremost, let me clarify that this is NOT ME! I'm not that thin or good looking, nor do I speak so elegantly! But this video shows how a Yugo M70 can launch a dummy grenade... And yes, I do own a practice grenade! You can also buy devices that allow you to do the same with a tennis ball. I have a couple of M70s and prefer them over the PAPs because of its closer lineage to the original rifle the JNA carried, as no PAPs have the gas block or grenade sites on on them. But the price and availability of these is tough to resist! Just to clarify, these are new production rifles whereas the original M70s were built off demilled kits (minus receivers). They are all built on 1.5mm thick receivers whereas most AKs are 1.0mm, so they're heavier rifles but I feel of a better quality than most stamped AKs. Note that these rifles have a tendency to beat the hell out of your face because of their high cheek weld. It's a common characteristic on Yugos. Side folders are even worse because of their design and it's tough trying to get any check weld out of most of them (the Vz2002) HD also posted needs more of a "chin weld." Speaking of which, those are great rifles but they are not AKs. The only component they share is the ammo. No other parts, even the magazines, are interchangeable. They even function differently, but that said, they are outstanding rifles and many say they are what the AK should have been in the first place! Lastly, I'll agree that my polymer, stamped AKs (basically my Saiga) is an easier and more comfortable rifle to shoot and carry; but there's something about the traditional wood furniture on an AK that makes it so appealing. You can even pick up BFPU furniture from APEX for some rifles, which really increase the cool factor of them! Cheers! M2

Duck I would recommend a Saiga or a Bulgarian Arsenal, but it all depends on what you want out of the rifle. Check out Atlantic Firearms, J&G Gun Sales or Bud's Gun Shop (Arsenals or Century) for the best deals (in that order). Atlantic offers better AKs but they're also more pricey. Cheers! M2

Centurion 39 update. I got the rifle the Monday before last. It's nicely built but there were a few small things that bothered me, namely the stamped top cover and selector; so I ordered new correct ones for a milled AK through RTG. The parts came in yesterday and I had to do a little work on them to get them to fit (the cover was a tad too long, and the selector didn't fit on the receiver. I filed down the former and Dremel'd the latter and both work great now) and I also replaced the Century grip with a more traditional one. I am pretty happy with how the gun looks and shoots now... I put 150 rounds through it last Sunday with only one FTF during the first mag, which I attribute to a little breaking-in needed. Otherwise it shot great. So the bottom line is for a sub-$600 "American-made" (a questionable claim) milled AK it's a good deal. It's a little different from its Soviet and Communist brethren, but the lineage is there. I would rate it just below my Yugos and above my WASR-10/63; which is about right on par for the price. It looks a helluva lot better in the traditional furniture (from TAPCO's TimberSmith line minus the grip, which sucks because it would look really good with a matching wooden grip on it!) than the "tactical" stuff that the first Centurion was dressed in, and the Warsaw Pact-length stock works a lot better than the NATO-length plastic one on the first model. The only downside is that the wood will make it harder to sink into the Gulf! Cheers! M2

Here's a good excerpt from Robert Gates' new book, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War, that the White House has been whining about all day... The Quiet Fury of Robert Gates Based on this preview and the bullshit Obama's talking dog has been shoveling all day on CNN in response to the book's release, it appears it might be an interesting read!

Really? Most traffic crimes are civil infractions, the Espionage Act of 1917 added the possibility of death penalty for those convicted of that crime. Still think they're the same?
