If he's buying handguns at the Offutt BX, then he's in Nebraska. I think the M&P is a much smarter choice for a personal firearm, but I would still take a Springfield XD over one. The S&Ws are replacing a lot of Glocks with police departments, but from what I heard in the SAPD was that the XD was rated over the M&P during the competition for a replacement service weapon; but S&W offered the department such a great deal on their pistols (plus the fact that they provide the ARs the department uses), they made the more economical choice. Still, I have no problems with the M&P line and many people love them. I am just very partial towards the XD as the ones I have owned have been amazingly accurate and reliable. Cheers! M2

  4. 'Fail' as in not true, or 'fail' as in that is true and stupid? I honestly don't know because I was never stationed in a "non-free" state, nor would I live in one now that I am a freedman...

  9. Ya gotta admit, that is why most of us shop there! Walmart might have sales, but rarely do you see stuff marked ridiculously down because they just want to get rid of it. I've scored some sweet deals that way. Another bonus is the employees, while stationed at a small European location we got to know some of the folks working in key positions at AAFES. Saw a nice skateboard that I wanted for my son, but it had no price. My bud the manager marked it for ten bucks. A week later it was priced at something like $80. Also scored a nice pair of boots from the uniform shop marked down considerably because they had been "returned." Turned out some Army troop mistakenly bought them then found out he couldn't wear them. Other than his trying them on, they were never walked in. So yeah, while some prices may not be that great; it's like going to a gun show...you never know what sweet deal you may find! Cheers! M2

Based on this AK Files thread, it looks like Atlantic is trying to push a cheaper alternative to Arsenal Vegas' converted Saigas ("Yes these are converted Saiga rifles they are not designed to compete with Arsenals. We wanted to offer a few middle of the road options for our customers"). And based on this one review, they're on target in that regard... The finish on some Saigas have had issues in the past as well, although I've never had any problems with mine. My opinion? These may be "adequate" but I would save a couple of hundred more dollars and get something better. Cheers! M2

Sounds like Atlantic is trying to compete with Arsenal in Vegas! I haven't checked into these, but I'll do so and let you know what I find; but at that price I would almost just get a Saiga converted by Arsenal as it looks to be essentially the same rifle. Not that I don't trust Atlantic, they have a great reputation; but my Arsenal kicks ass and would be my 'go-to' AK if necessary...

Translation: "October 5, 1969 hijacking of aircraft MiG-17F fighters No. 232 Squadron 1913 Cuban Air Force. A young Cuban pilot l-t Guèrro Eduardo Jiménez crossed the border and landed at the US airbase Homestead. Flight took place at a height of 10-13 metres, which prevented the radars detect wrongdoing. At the time of the landing of MiG-and on the same air base was flight "Air Force 1" President of the United States!" The plane was returned to the Cubans and ten years later, on June 12, 1979, Jiménez hijacked Delta Flight 1061 back to Havana!
  14. Was just at Eglin last week, other than the Barrett MRAD in .338 Lapua for six grand, I didn't see much that interested me... The biggest NEX I've been to is the one at Pearl. It's full of overpriced Hawaiian shirts. Nothing too special there either. Still, having been subjected to having to shop at the BX during overseas assignments, I have a special fondness for the place. I've found some great deals there over the years, most recently some sweet Reebok ATV19s in black for under thirty bucks at Offutt a couple of weeks back!
