That removes intent or premeditation, but it doesn't relieve her from knowing and abiding by the laws of the state.

She's an idiot. She did everything right for transporting the firearm on her flight but neglected to research the laws of the state she was visiting. She's confused in thinking that by abiding by the airline and TSA's rules for transporting the pistol she would be able to carry it in a state that has laws against it. Actually, it's her husband who is the idiot ever telling her to bring the pistol in the first place. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and it doesn't matter if you bake cookies for the girl scouts or anything else, break the law and expect to be arrested. Her only hope is that the DA or court will be lenient on her, but there is no excuse for what she did.

It's disappointing that Rainman left, especially for the reasons cited; but it's not the end of the world. I agree with CH to a degree that the political discussions aren't what this forum was originally created for, but Rich knew such threads would happen when he allowed the creation of the Squadron Bar and I think that is the right place for them. Does that make BaseOps better or worse because of it? That's an individual decision, but I do think we still accomplish Rich's original vision for the site and if the addition of such conversations sends a few people elsewhere, then that's their call.

Also, we don't need "the golden hour" explained in such detail in every episode. But I will disagree with the voice over, I think it is needed for the general public to better understand what's going on. Remember that 99.69% of them have never been in such an environment. And I think they've done a pretty good job of not inserting any artificial drama; but they do tend to overly focus on the drama that already exists. Given that this is a "reality TV show" though, it is nominal compared to most.

Not really a 'WTF,' just thought this was the most appropriate place for it...

I read 'em years ago for some insight into the forces involved in that conflict, now I'm just re-engaging 'em for my own entertainment. From what I remember, they are more of a collection of battle reports than a comprehensive study of the tactics employed; but now that we are winding up operations there it will be interesting to see what similarities exist between what the Soviets did and ours efforts. I'm just starting it but I can already see what you mean. I was hoping his chest-thumping would wear off after the beginning but it is typical SEAL (Marcinko was the same way). No Easy Day was the exception, and if you're interested in an excellent series of books from a SOF guy, I highly recommend Yellow Green Beret!

Since my post was about a book on the movie Red Dawn, I thought it appropriate to post here; but the subsequent comments concerning books better belong in the thread so I moved them there.

OK, not the latest version, but definitely the better one! For those with a Kindle, there's a free book being offered on the original (better) movie... I just downloaded it, but I'm in the middle of three books already at the moment (American Sniper, The Bear Went Over The Mountain and The Other Side of the Mountain). so it might be a while before I get to it.
