  1. Steve Perhaps some of our brethren stationed in the UK can assist? It would be cheaper to send this via the APO than the Royal Mail. Cheers! M2

Finally, the AK vs AR debate has been solved using an unbiased, scientific approach... Extra win!

    Gun Talk

OK, I am NOT an AR guy; but a bunch of my coworkers went in on a PMAG group buy and now several are having problems with them. They say the lips are too tall and are preventing the bolts from cycling (forward or back). I figured a Dremel would be a quick solution but they say it would require removing so much that the lips wouldn't keep the rounds in the magazines. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this before and could offer any help...

Down here in Texas we have a little saying for those who want to try and take our firepower away... And while a bunch of pussy liberal states try to pass ridiculous regulations concerning an inalienable right under the Constitution, today in Texas lawmakers are proposing legislation to expand gun rights in the state! In the immortal words of Davy Crockett, "Y'all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas!"
  9. As someone most astutely noted, they don't have a Lego to stand on! Cheers! M2
  10. According to the four USN officers in my office (one naval aviator, three SWOs), normally aviators will skipper carriers whereas the rest of the fleet it's SWOs. Again, that's just the norm; there will always be exceptions to it.
  11. Well, first we have to agree on what we are arguing about here! If it's about retention, then as I've said before I am against the "up or out" policy which causes the USAF to lose a lot of experienced and productive individuals. We don't need a warrant problem to fix that, it could be done easily by having different tracks for those who want to remain specialists and those who aspire for command. Obviously the first requirement would be to weed out the peckerwoods who think they belong in the latter but don't. If it's an issue of leadership, then a warrant program isn't going to solve that as they are specialists that don't rise to leadership positions. Again, I argue that it's no worse today than it's been in the past; but the issue of those same peckerwoods remains. I am sure most of us can give several accounts of individuals in command positions who were not qualified or worthy; but for the most part I think the fair majority that have gained senior rank and command deserve it. Could the USAF use a better program for selecting those who rise up through the ranks and earn command? Of course, but even with changes there is going to be those who slip through for the wrong reasons. Is the US military in a leadership crisis? No, the few examples of late (Petraeus being the most newsworthy) are like the few mass shootings that have ocurred recently; they don't reflect the vast majority of military senior leaders or law-abiding gun owners; but as always the press is sensationalizing the issue for its entertainment value and its attempts to shape the opinions of the sheep...errr...public (it's easier to invoke defense cuts when such stories are rampant in the media). Cheers! M2
  12. How would Warrants work any better in those positions that SNCOs/CGOs? As for a leadership problem in the USAF, no, I don't see it being much worse than I've seen it on numerous occasions in the past. Much of what the leadership gets blamed for isn't their fault. Do you really think this recent "PC" witch hunt was their decision? Do you think the budget cuts are their idea? Do you think all this whining and moaning is something new? I was around for "the good old days," and they weren't always that good all the time either. I'd be more concerned if people weren't whining...
  13. Warrants aren't the answer, they are single-track specialty officers and while that may be appealing to someone who wants to stay in the cockpit his/her entire career; it doesn't answer our leadership issue (if there even is one). My suggestion is to allow them to grow beards. It worked during the Civil War and with Special Forces! Even a Pentagon study proves it! Cheers! M2

Unfortunately, 10/22 mags (especially the BX-25s) were some of the first targets of the panic buying (along with .22LR ammo)...

    Gun Talk

Knew some folks that were at SHOT. Rumors are that ammo is backordered six months to a year. AR pattern guns, six months to a year. Popular magazines (AR pattern), a year; meaning that if everyone quits buying now, the last pending orders would be filled about this time next year! People in the industry are worried that if all this dies down, then the same thing that happened four years ago will happen again...the backorders will get cancelled, as Bubba J ordered the same AR from ten shops and only paid for the first one that came in. The other nine are left in stock. That is considered "bad" for any industry. Additionally, "buyer's remorse" for those who bought all these guns at 2-3x their normal cost will occur; and the market will be flooded with them trying to recoup their purchase. Obviously that won't happen with such a badly-saturated market, and prices will drop like rocks. And if ammo doesn't end up being threatened by a ban, it too will flood the market as the bills for those credit cards that were used during the panic start arriving in people's mail. We saw this rollercoaster ride back in 2008, and many suspect it'll happen again this time around. But then again, it might not as we see more liberal states adopting stricter gun restrictions (such as NY). Like any other market, it's hard to predict what will happen; but it's all a matter of where your interests lie. I loaded up on ammo before the 2008 panic and am still sitting on some. Sure the current price is double of what I paid for it, but its intrinsic value to me is much greater than its monetary value. All I have to do is recover it from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico...

That would be the SHOT Show, which was last week. I wish I could have gone, but know some folks that did. It was a great time from their accounts. That Federal .22LR is great ammo, I wish it was in stock. I would probably jump on this deal if it was, despite the fact that I don't own any .22LR firearms! Cheers! M2

Ain't no .22LR to be found anywhere, at least not easily. It's been has tough if not tougher to find that .223 in some places! And yes, everyone is panic buying, even those of us who no longer own any firearms! Where have you been for the last month?

My XDS has been was exceptional, and a 9mm version was introduced at this week's SHOT show. I have no plans to get one, as it's pretty much exactly the same size as the Taurus PT709 Slim I used to own...
