  1. Probably restricted to Moderator access only for some reason...
  2. Fixed that for ya...
  3. Dunno whether the 89th, WHMO, or Biden himself decides which airplane he uses for short trips... but I've seen the C-32 as AF2 to go ADW-DOV-ADW.
  4. In my opinion, for 90% of civilian users, gas piston systems are a solution in search of a problem. The full-auto bolt carrier has more metal at the tail end of the carrier for additional mass, which helps regulate the action speed/cycle time. They work well on short-barreled ARs to dampen the sharper gas impulse the shorter gas systems inherently have, which is why some manufacturers supply only a FA carrier with their weapons. The midlength gas system is optimum on a 16" barrel, assuming the gas port in the barrel is the correct diameter. The general 'net consensus is that Spike's barrels consistently have correctly-sized gas ports. EDIT: sonofabitch... ninja'd by Timbonez...
  5. The A&P would probably help as far as the hiring decision goes, but I doubt you'd get to skip Safety Wire 101 and the "proper use of screwdrivers" CBTs at Sheppard. I want to say 30 is the cutoff for non-priors, but please don't quote me on that. Might be waiverable if the unit is understrength (who isn't???). Again, don't quote me.
  6. Disclaimer: I AM NOT A PILOT, NOR DO I PLAY ONE ON TV. However, I did sleep in a KC-10 last night... After looking at the airfield diagram for OSH with flying the pattern in mind, does anyone else (the heavy folks, not so much the fighter folks) read the above sequence of events and think a missed approach/go-around would've been more appropriate, rather than trying to salvage what sounds like a shit sandwich of an approach, especially in a bizjet? I realize that flying into OSH during Airventure is definitely the time to "bring your A+ game", and be prepared for clearances you wouldn't normally receive anywhere else, but that looks like a pretty restrictive turn to final in a bizjet, especially with traffic on the runway... NOMEX.............ON (B)
  7. Not good....
  8. I guess so. I passed through the Deid this time last year and the manpurse requirement was an emphasis item in that ridiculous "in-processing/in-brief" the A1C gave to all us transients after we landed. I suppose any measure of sane, common-sense regulations is better than nothing..... edit: formatting
  9. Probably via the stupid-ass manpurse "they" require you to wear at the Deid (with your ID card fully visible through the transparency). Every time I read about this kind of shit happening (E disrespects O, O corrects E on the spot, E cries to Dad ASAP, Dad smashes O later), it truly boggles my mind that officer leadership in the United States Air Force has degraded to this level.
  10. Funny... we were just talking about this stuff last week. One of my pilots actually had never heard of chemtrails (after a comment from our FE during receiver AR with another 10), so we were forced to brief him in-flight. Hang on a sec, I'll be right back. Sounds like a helicopter's landing in my backyard or something...
  11. I've heard from several Booms who've flown the TIB SAAMs, that they "ask" for "volunteers" to help set-up/tear-down the shows at each stop. I am certain that there are plenty of shoe E-9s, shirts, and even some CCs, who will happily "voluntold" their people for this (on top of their regular workload), in their efforts to be the biggest kissass at BaseX. Fucking disgusting.
  12. For a fully-transferrable Class III weapon as rare as a Stoner 63 is? Not surprising at all. For some perspective (if you're unfamiliar with Class III prices), here's a fully-transferrable Class III M-60 that was for sale for $30k...
  13. 2 Drives me insane that when I brought up OSH during the "airshow buy" this year, the pilots doing the buying for my SQ said "Nahhh..."
  14. I had a very good experience with ammunitiontogo.com. Best price at the time I ordered, fast shipping, well-packaged.
  15. I thought that when I was in the Marines... I still do. When AF people find out I'm a former Marine, and they invariably ask "Why did you leave the Marines after 11 years, and join the Air Force?", my preferred answer is "Because I finally got smart." Reminds me of an old saying about the Army... Lock a young Soldier in a windowless room, with 2 anvils, for 24 hours. When you return to let him out, one anvil will be broken... and the other will be missing.
  16. 3 years to mod 59 airframes? I'll believe it when modded aircraft start regularly showing up on the ramp. I wonder if they're still going with the set-up the RNLAF bought, or if Boeing came up with something else to screw up offer...
  17. That's the trade-off you must be willing to accept, if you decide to go Guard/Reserve, to get the exact flying job you want. This ain't Burger King... People who are seriously considering making a career of the Guard or Reserve would be wise to keep that possibility in the back of their minds.
  18. Guard or Reserve seem to be the best bets on getting the exact job you want out of Big Blue... but I've heard a nasty rumor that the ANG has stopped hiring "off the street" for the rest of the FY.
  19. The mark of a true geek: Dude, you couldn't just say "BBs"? In any case, it's pretty friggin' cool.
  20. Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that...
  21. At least someone taught him to keep his finger off the trigger. I assume the .gif is from a movie; what's the title?
  22. You can get into a nice VFR RV-8 for well under $100k. Hell, you can get into a nice IFR RV-8 for under $100k if you do some homework, and don't want glass everything in the panel... edit: format
  23. That looks like a young House...
  24. "Who needs camouflage when you've got 360* of reflectivity?!?"
