  1. There's plenty of military sayings that bug me... but that one, to paraphrase Ron White, has always "sent me into a dimension of pissed-off the likes of which I've never before experienced in my life". What part of the military police job description allows them to actively and repeatedly flaunt both the UCMJ and basic military customs and courtesies, when it comes to speaking to persons of a higher rank? [sarcasm] Do they get a UCMJ/C&C deviation letter when they get issued their badge? [/sarcasm] I suppose I could see it if they were arresting an officer or SNCO who was witnessed, by them, committing a murder... or luring kids into his van with candy, or [insert your own heinous crime here]... but when A1C Fuckbutt with the 69SFS gets mouthy with someone he's pulled over for doing 17 in a 15... that deserves some serious UCMJ consequences in my book. Better yet, some wall-to-wall counseling, but I guess that's not allowed in the 21st century Air Force even when it's the most fitting punishment.
  2. I don't have a GTC because I got fucked-over by the Corps on a multi-thousand-dollar travel voucher 10 years ago, and now I'm perma-banned from the program... even though I did eventually pay it off. I don't have a choice in the matter. Well, I suppose I could get my Chief and the DO to sign a letter for an advance before every TDY... but it was a tremendous pain in the ass the one time I did it. Not worth the hassle. I'm a mid-grade E with a mortgage, two car payments, a new baby, and I'm still getting out from under the financial carnage of almost 3 years of being unemployed/underemployed. I don't have a couple grand just sitting around, waiting for the next time the AF decides to put all it's financial eggs in one single-point-of-failure basket... then threaten me with a Letter of Counseling/Reprimand/Embarrasment because I'm on "the list". I'm happy to be using my personal card. My bitch (since you called it that) is that Big Blue caused this mess by having everything Finance go to one single place with, apparently, no backup plan in place.
  3. I've got 5 vouchers (among them, 2 re-submittals and an FMS mission), sitting somewhere in the backlog that's been created by the system crash. Good thing I use my personal card, and don't have a BOA/Citi/whoever-has-the-GTC-contract-now card to go delinquent on................ yeah, that's great. In the email our DO sent out last week (not this one), one of the remarks in the mass of Fwd: info under his comments was from a Col. who wrote that he had just briefed the CSAF and SecAF about the issue. At least the HMFIC's are aware of the problem. Meanwhile, we await our monies...
  4. That's the "new" 69th BS, yes?
  5. - The Hale Koa has a nice Sunday brunch. IIRC, it was $12/person, with about a half-hour wait (it's pretty popular). - Diamond Head is well-worth the climb. - The Arizona... it's the USS Arizona. What else needs to be said, other than "go"? - If you're thinking about renting a car in Waikiki, call EARLY. Last time I was there, another boom and I rented a car; by 10AM all the big-name places were out of cars, and we ended up having to go with some hole-in-the-wall rental place (literally).
  6. "Why is it doing that?"
  7. KC-10 is RVSM-compliant. Actually, let me rephrase - I'm 99.69% cretain the KC-10 is, because I've never head a pilot add "negative RVSM" to an altitude request above FL320. Maybe Techsan will see this and confirm... or deny, and make me look stupid.
  8. Quoted for truth. We had a saying in the Corps about the -53: "If it ain't leaking, it ain't flying!" Even the grunts knew that one. I once had a Marine infantry company 1st Sgt (that's a rank in the Corps (E-8) as well as a billet, for those of you who didn't know) waving frantically at me in-flight to get my attention. When I got to him, he was really upset that there were no leaks in the cabin while we were flying. I had to explain to him that the aircraft was nearly brand-new - we had just picked it up from Sikorsky a couple months prior, and it had less than 50hrs on it.
  9. Wait.... a notary can administer the oath of commission/enlistment? Shit... I thought all they were good for was notarizing my documents for buying Garands from the CMP. [/threadjack]
  10. I've taken better pictures through a dirty ARO window. Not an improvement over the Mt. Rushmore pic. Fraud... Waste... and Abuse! Who's gonna call the hotline?
  11. M2 - you didn't quote me. Your quote is someone else's post from '08...
  12. Huh... sounds just like the regular US prison system.
  13. I don't have anything particularly quote-worthy, and I'll not cheat by going to Google... so I'll go with the one I remember best, from my days as a young Marine: "Sit on your hands, Lieutenant. We'll all be better-off that way."
  14. As if you couldn't see this coming...
  15. I last did my Secret clearance stuff when I was still in the Marines, in '02. I had a 2 1/2-year break in service (totally out of the military) between when I got out of the Marines and when I joined the AF - my Secret was still good, and JPAS has me as good-to-go until 2012.
  16. Re: the new "JSF" bag... If the arm lanyards are removable, then just issue the fuckers to everyone, not just one community. Reading the article, it sounds like several of the biggest issues with the current bag are addressed with this one. One-bag-for-all is, logistically, better than one-bag-for-one-community and one-bag-for-everyone-else. Of course, that's common sense.... so it won't happen.
  17. I was thinking the same thing. My money's on *before the end of the week*.
  18. Just so I can keep up... By MIL sizing, you're referring to the ability to estimate the range of a target based on it's approximate size, compared to the size of the reticle in mils (which is known, of course)? Similar in principle to a "mil-dot" rifle scope?
  19. A ceremony that big, in what is supposed to be a combat zone, is two things, and two things only: 1. An ego trip for the CC. 2. A HUGE target. Should the length of a commander's tour determine the size of the ceremony, how many people should be pulled from their jobs or "free" time to stand in the sun and listen to field-grade ego-stroking, and how many airframes are pulled from the flightline for statics? Even if those aircraft were NMC, I'm sure MX could've been working something on them. 2
  20. I dunno what the AF has to say about it, but a Marine I worked with a long time ago got hammered for having an empty 1911 magazine in his car when coming through the gate at MCAS Tustin. My thoughts: - Check the AFI that governs the dorms (IIRC, the dorm manager has to have a hard copy of the AFI available for residents to view) to see if what constitutes a "weapon" is spelled out. - If it's at all possible, DON'T GIVE YOUR GUN(S) TO SF! Find a friend you trust to keep it at their place in base housing, or off-base.
  21. Holy fuckin' man-hands! Took me a couple minutes to get my eyes off the rack before I noticed that... along with the DSLs.
  22. I know several computer geeks in my SQ (a couple skilled amateurs and two no-shit IT professionals) have tried something similar. Hasn't worked out for them.
  23. Nice. Looks like it's silkscreened, rather than embroidered. Let us know how it holds up...
  24. That's how we did it in the Marines. We practiced Present Arms (and Order Arms) as a 3-second motion when we did funeral details. All other drill movements were slowed as well, with the exception of the rifle manual if we were giving a rifle salute. As Coasta said, it's a gesture of respect.
