  1. F--- that. The doctors and lawyers are doing fine killing themselves in Piper Cubs. Less collateral damage. HD

  3. It depends on how far along the AEF is. There's always the "hit the ground running" phase and the "FIGMO" phase. HD

  6. I think this old aphorism is relevant: "A pilot may earn his entire year's pay in one minute...during which he would gladly give it up to be somewhere else." The second part is for laughs, but the first part is very true. Military flying is not flying around the flag pole on clear blue days. Military flying is dodging wx at night on nogs through high terrain with a +30 temp dev to get to an objective area while people are purposely trying to kill you. Military flying is the most inherently dangerous flying we know. There WILL be situations, where your decision-making ability and control will be the determining factor is a successful mission and safe flight. You have to be able to perform when it's your call. That's what Rainman is getting at. HD

  9. Ah ha! There's the disconnect. I wasn't referring to interviewing. I'm talking about average citizens. Oh man, if I had a nickel. HD
  10. It doesn't matter. I don't need to interview for jobs to be able to judge what a standard idiot knows about the military. Your average joe knows what a pilot is. Your average joe knows all pilots fly fighters or airliners. HD
  11. AIR Force. Our heritage is as a flying force. Flying our heritage and it's sad when a ground pounder can't be proud of supporting the flying mission. HD
  12. Disagree. Civilians know what a pilot is, and that's about it. HD
  13. Shack. I was lucky enough to fly Leo Thorness between a couple spots in the AOR on one mission. I invited him to come sit up on the flight deck, gave him a headset, and sat back and listened. Top-notch guy. HD
  14. No matter what aircraft you fly, you will think it is the best. It sounds to me you may have already made your decision. One route is a gamble, one route is the safer play. Either way, make it through training and you will be flying aircraft for a living. No one can make this decision for you. A relevant story, one time when I was a copiglet, I got out of the seat for a second and went to the back. A few minutes later, I returning to the flight deck and saw the nav reaching over my seat and flying the turn to the next waypoint. I casually asked what was up and the scruffy old WIC-grad nav said "Co, there are lots of people who would love to be in your shoes." I thought for half a second and replied, "Nav, there are lots of people who love to be in your shoes too." The point here being, there are tons of people who didn't get picked up for OTS, are medically unqualified to be a rated officer or lack the aptitude to be aircrew, etc. Always remember that and you'll never regret the path you choose. HD
  15. I'll explain in two phrases: Old and Busted: Fight in the air. New Hotness: Deliver sovereign options to our nation's defense through rapid-response expeditionary exploitation of air, space, and cyberspace. Total force Battlefield Airmen providing global engagement under seemless cohesion with their wingman. HD

  25. Thread Revival Update on the drama from FOX NEWS: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Police Discover Bondage Images in Car of Lovesick NASA Astronaut Lisa Nowak ORLANDO, Florida — A police search of former astronaut Lisa Nowak's car turned up bondage photos on a computer disk, British currency and pills, according to documents released Tuesday by prosecutors. A judge last week agreed to unseal some of the documents in the Nowak's case. She is accused of trying to kidnap a rival for a space shuttle pilot's affections. Nearly all of the 16 images found on the disk depicted bondage scenes, according to a forensic examination report by the Orlando Police Department. Some of the images showed a nude woman while others were drawings. The documents did not make clear whether Nowak was the woman in the photos or who the disks belonged to. Also found were nearly $600, 41 British pounds and four brown paper towels with 69 orange pills. State law enforcement are testing the pills to determine what they are, authorities said. Investigators also examined two USB drives found in the car that contained family pictures, digital movies and NASA related materials. They concluded that information found on the disk or the two USB drives did not have any direct evidence related to the attempted kidnapping, the report said. Nowak's attorney, Donald Lykkebak, declined to comment Tuesday on the newly released documents. Nowak was arrested in February after police say she drove from Houston to Florida to confront Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman. Authorities have said Nowak had an affair with Shipman's boyfriend, Bill Oefelein. She pepper-sprayed Shipman through a partially lowered car window, an arrest affidavit said. Police said they found a BB gun, new steel mallet, a knife and rubber tubing in Nowak's possession. Nowak, 43, pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping, burglary with assault and battery. NASA released Nowak from the astronaut corps a month after her arrest. Her trial has been moved to September. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hell yes. HD
