  1. Watched "Legend" on Netflix. Semi-true story of the gangster (Brit mafia-types) Kray brothers in 1960s London. Think "Mad Men" with a lot of the ol' "ultra-violence" added. Pretty well done, I thought.
  2. Just finished binge watching Netflix' "Drive to Survive," a, so far, two season behind the scenes look at current F1. Season 1 dealt with the 2018 racing season. Season 2, the 2019 one. Ill-timed mentions of the 2020 racing season expectations. But a very good waste of time; largely on the personalities and money pressures vs. technical engineering or detailed racing strategy stuff. But good nonetheless.
  3. You didn't state what your degree is in. Technical is probably more attractive than liberal arts, IMHO. Working around active flying squadrons is cool, but since you are in the "never gonna be able to do it," is that really a good choice? Seems a little masochistic since every day you'll be reminded of "no soup for you!" Although you said "Air Force squadrons" so not necessarily a flying one? Also, most, not all, but most line squadron GS positions are going to be fairly low grade - GS 7, 9, 11. A few 12s, a few 13s, maybe a 14 once in a while. Is the money at the lower grades enough for your needs? Because, generally, once you start as a GS in whatever grade, you have to do your time (ability is nice, but not always necessary in what I've seen), before moving up. And so on for each grade. Job security, but average pay. Is that for you? Contract employee of one of many companies is another route to follow. Again, kinda depends on your degree and location desired.
  4. Americans don't like mandatory reflective belts.
  5. Indeed. Primary tabs Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. https://lawandcrime.com/covid-19-pandemic/new-jersey-woman-kim-pagan-charged-for-organizing-protest-against-covid-19-stay-at-home-orders/ Even a state school grad can see this one doesn't pass the test...
  6. That sure is a nice Constitution and Bill of Rights ya got there. Sure would be a shame if, cough..cough, something were to happen to it. If non-elected or even elected officials can deny some of our inherent rights, do I get to have a say? I'm pretty sure I do and will. If some here want to wave away some of my rights because they don't use/care about particular ones, do I get to wave away the ones I don't think you need? Pretty sure it doesn't work that way.
  7. Sure, we can argue about Kung flu mortality rates. Is it 3% Is it .01%? We can b1tch about frozen PCS and money lost and families inconvenienced. We can commiserate about our comrades who had their deployments extended. But dammit, THIS is serious: https://movieweb.com/top-gun-2-maverick-release-date-delay/ Oh, the humanity...
  8. Hasn't happened in modern USAF times that I know of, but going to HEB this morning reminded me of the decon drills of old. Stand in line, wait for the decon personnel to bring you forward, I looked for the shuffle box but didn't see one, got sprayed down in the vestibule area, proceed to the decon showers, then off to somewhat empty shelves.
  9. Lot of crow to be eaten by Big Gray if true. Pretty unprecedented. And still the admirals between then CO Crozier and acting SECNAV have a role in this. Either active or passive, but this cluster is gonna have some further fratricide...
  10. The Navy has said this since the '60s. And sailors were catching bugs back then as well... BTW, the fired acting SECNAV's permanent replacement is on a fast-track for confirmation. Guy was originally nominated back in February, then the zombies attacked...
  11. What is this "CD player" of which you speak? But in the 8-track is Dire Straits, any and all of it, and/or Mark Knopfler. Dude can write and play. Also symphonic Pink Floyd. For the grown-up stoner in some of us... Recently added...wait for it.... Flock of Seagulls with the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
  12. Having been one, this rang so true.
  13. Undue influence on what? The ex-skipper is not being charged with anything that I am aware of. He got fired. Can't unring that bell. The question remaining is why did the ex-commander do it the way he did. And, it would seem, that Big Gray will need to be pretty ruthless in crushing/removing loyalists from that boat.
  14. So that's the secret to Huggy's long U-2 career...
  15. Curious as to why the firing went all the way to acting SECNAV. There's a slew of military chain of command (you know, the one Crozier was relieved for ignoring) admirals who could've done the deed. Why did this go up to a temporary political appointee?
  16. This could either here or the WTF thread https://f1-insider.com/en/formula1/exclusive-ecclestone-becomes-a-father-again/
  17. Big Gray/Green/Blue does not like to be embarrassed.
  18. It's just this kind of thinking and can-do spirit that got us through the Great Depression, Dubya-dubya two, and now the Black Death...
  19. So prisoners are being released due to the crowded conditions in a jail increasing the spread of this disease yet... https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/to-enforce-coronavirus-distancing-police-say-arrests-are-last-resort/ar-BB11XppY?ocid=spartanntp
  20. Can confirm you are good to go. Closed today at the 2.75% rate.
  21. Betting average Texans are better armed and better shots than average Californians. But this brings up an interesting not quite so philosophical question as it once was: If the military is activated to quell domestic disturbance(s), will it? Would you if still in uniform and/or a Guardsman under state orders? Setting up field hospitals, running logistics and the like, sure. Knocking on doors for 'trespassers' or ultimately firing on fellow Americans who don't take much to having their Constitutional rights infringed upon for very long? Define 'lawful' order under those circumstances. And to those coming to Texas, welcome! But why, oh why would you then start voting to make it exactly like where you fled from? Where you gonna go when you f it up here?
  22. Going for levity, not making fun of your other's illness. Hope she gets better soon.
  23. My humble appreciation for those deployed and were supposed to come home soon. Nothing is a bigger kick in the morale junk than to be extended at the last minute. Sorry, dudes/dudettes.
  24. Riiiiighht…. https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-testing-new-york-state-20200322-zvzog4p2yvh4bpvhbd5p5nxlly-story.html https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/mar/24/steve-sisolak-nevada-governor-bans-malaria-drugs-c/
  25. Since "latest" movie isn't really a thing, thought I'd throw a few out there for our various quarantines. Just watched "The Highwaymen." A loosely based true story of two retired Texas Rangers saddling up for one last time to track down Bonnie and Clyde. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson do a good job of it. For you youngsters, if you haven't ever seen "Cool Hand Luke," I highly encourage it. Top 5 on my all time list.
