  1. False position. The question is what is the determining point? I'm not anti-vax nor do I damn the rest of society. But we do need to discuss actually having a society when this is over. If our economy is to become solely Big Brother and we serfs are dependents, I'd sure like to have a say in that. As I have stated, I don't have the answer, but my spidey-sense says literally crushing our economy is worse than this virus in the long term for our nation.
  2. The Constitution?
  3. Erm, no. But if the economy is literally wrecked, there's no society to come back to. And all those nice diseases that the First World thought it had licked (no pun intended) really will come back with a vengeance. Then you'll see death toll. China and Russia are continuing with their economies. I'm betting they haven't contained this thing either. Meanwhile, I dig the advice above. Good article.
  4. I think your math is inflated by several digits, but as I premised, what is the cut line? Some, worst case in my opinion, 20,000-30,000 in the U.S., another 50,000 worldwide deaths or a literal stopped economy, both ours and Western Europe? BTW, China is cranking its factories back up and Russia never stopped. We are printing money by the non-metric sh1t ton-load and the stock market is still tanking. Small businesses do not have the reserves to stand more than 1-2 weeks of not getting customers. Even if we opened for business tomorrow, thousands of mom-and-pop's are gone. They'll eventually be replaced assuming there's still an economy to make it worthwhile to try. As I said, I don't have the answer(s). More/gooder medical supplies/meds, yea! Shutting everyone up behind closed doors? Not so sure. And I'm (using the royal "I," not me personally) losing my first, second, fourth, sixth, and seventh amendment rights because somebody said so. Is that us? I'm agin that.
  5. But where - and I don't presume to have any answer - is the line between being smart and fighting this and absolutely wrecking our, and the world's economy? Is a repeat of the 1930s worth the culling of the human herd that most likely will happen anyway? I write that knowing that I'm in a higher risk of not recovering group due to age. This isn't the Black Death. It's a deadly form of influenza that will likely get 100s of thousands worldwide not 100s of millions. Where's the line? More importantly, to my anyway, is where is the line regarding keeping our Constitutional system alive and mostly well? (pun intended). Gonna need more bourbon. And Pop Tarts...
  6. Separate but related, it will interesting to see how big the baby boom generated from the industrialized world's self-isolation will be. Will replace all the morts plus some, I bet.
  7. Let us not forget: Wu Tang Clap
  8. Seems a cheap shot for post that's not even in this thread. Did you see the fine print at the bottom of the referenced post? Perhaps recycle humor detector or whatever... But my not so world shaking opinion is that we will A) Weather this over-dramatization and come out strongly in which case those that stayed the financial course will be better than ever and those that risked buying while the market is crashing will find themselves amply rewarded. B) The whole thing implodes and we find ourselves with Weimar-like currency and a Walking Dead scenario. In which case, I'll have to see how my investments in ammunition and how long my stamina hold up in keeping the walker herds at bay before they eventually overrun my place. Either way, I'm sure that no doubt well-deserved administrative punishments given in the past will be moot as life moves on
  9. Cough/sniffle/snort/hack... Sorry, haven't been at my best lately. But man, you cats calling it that were fast as lightening. In fact, it's been a little bit frightening. I'll show myself out...
  10. Anonymous Trump official allegedly calls Chinese virus "The Kung Flu" I thought it pretty funny. I'm a bad man...
  11. For once in my real estate life, I think I wound up on the positive side thanks to baseops, this thread, and Jon & Co. Right before the end of world this month, I contacted Jon more out of curiosity than actual interest as I had, via NBKC, a VA loan at 3.25%. Had it for three years and was pretty content. E-mailed Jon on a Tuesday night and he could've locked me in that night at 2.75% but I wanted to sleep on it. Next day, he still scored the 2.75%. A big savings for me monthly and over the course of the loan which will now reduce even faster. Well done!
  12. Man, to think all those "we need diversity candidates" lectures were wasted. But still, they know better than me and aren't afraid to lecture me on such. Along with stating that VP and Supreme Court picks will be based on genitalia and/or pigmentation. What could possibly go wrong?
  13. Houston rodeo cancelled: https://abc13.com/6003475/ Just sayin'... PANIC!!! Everyone sell now. Sell, sell, sell. "Hello, stockbroker? I'd like to place some buy orders..."
  14. Indeed. He's no Winston Churchill. But more importantly, he's no Hillary Clinton.
  15. So Biden had another senior moment yesterday when confronted by a union worker who was pro-2nd Amendment and had his facts together to challenge Biden on his position on guns AND his public statements regarding same. Besides cussing at the voter, Joe asks if "he wants to go outside" while having a finger in the guys face. Wonder how the press would react if someone accepts the old man's challenge. Won't actually be a physical altercation, but just the acceptance would really put Biden in a jam that the media would be hard-pressed to spin away. edited to add: A little judge on judge action. (For the liberals, don't turn your nose up because it's Fox. Strangely, given the topic, I assumed the liberal media would be all over it.) https://www.foxnews.com/politics/disorder-in-the-courts-federal-judge-blasts-justice-roberts Not sure how blatant disrespect is treated in the judiciary. Be interesting to see if there's consequences. And a lesson learned about "there are no Obama judges, no Bush judges," etc.
  16. I am amused at the Democrat party currently. The two leading candidates are both old white men. The DNC is literally ignoring the one remaining candidate, a smart minority woman. From the party who cherishes "diversity." One of them is seemingly in early Alzheimer's never mind his political record and adopting of the most leftward policies on this campaign trail. His third try, by the way. 1988, he had to withdraw after being caught plagerizing a British politician's speeches. And beaten by Obama in 2008, who he called a "clean, well-spoken black man." The other is literally a Socialist and not a member of the Democrat party. And had a heart attack during this campaign. Amazes me that Trump literally will be the youngest, healthiest contestant in the ring. That took some doing.
  17. Dunno. 6-9 hours frozen in your B-17/B-24 for 25-35 trips or a week or more frozen on a steam-powered freighter or worst, a tanker prior to May 1943 with the return trip awaiting. A real shame it took so long for the Merchant Marine guys to get recognized as WWII 'vets.'
  18. Hope this will be worth a ticket: https://youtu.be/eyzxu26-Wqk
  19. Not my candidate by a long shot, but funny is funny. Including the pearl clutching at the "doctored video" drama being claimed. Humor - what a concept.
  20. Now, if you'll excuse me, you're blocking the aisle of the Class VI and that sale on Sailor Jerry's isn't gonna last forever...
  21. So, Mr/Ms/non-gender specific form of address squadron commander, Tell us how much time you can devote to, you know, the mission in your DOC statement and how much on such silliness?
  22. Ok, this Wuhan Flu/SARS II The Revenge/Walking Dead escaped virus sh!t is getting serious. The Chinese have delayed/cancelled their F1 race in April. How else am I going to see how the pretty people blow (no sts) hundreds of millions of dollars/yuan in a communist country?
  23. Hey, look at this way; Hillary and Romney are still not President. All in all, a good use of three or so months of gubmint time and effort.
  24. Was the action worthy of firing a commander? Or more worthy of a closed door one-way conversation? Does the firing contribute to the next guy being inflexible to mistakes that don't bend metal or hurt anybody? Either way, DAL/AA/UAL/SWA, et al gain.
  25. I'm not a movie fanatic nor a particular movie critic; I like what I like. I don't like being "woken," I don't like being lectured to, I want to be entertained. If stuff blows up, beautiful women are scantily clad yet somehow classy and available, and the writing is good, I'm in. The James Bond films before he got 'woke,' are in my comfort zone. I like semi-historical films as well. I have not seen, nor planning to see, most of the nominated films for this year. 1917 was a good solid movie. Well done, authentic in the details, interesting story. But to answer your question, Tarentino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was a better, more entertaining move to me. The characters, the actors' portrayals, the writing, and the weird ending entertained me.
