  1. Hat's off to Cabela's, at least in Omaha, for not gouging on ammo prices. When they have it - and you have to line up before the store opens in hopes of scoring their limit of 5 boxes of whatever came in - their prices are same as before the ammo drought. Have scored 1,000 rounds of .45 in the last month by getting up early on a Saturday. Have also been skunked a few times when either nothing came in or it's not what I shoot, i.e .5.56, 7.62x39, etc.
  2. But, if a company actually stands tall and walks from said BS state, I am MUCH more likely to support them if given a choice of products. The point about a state that goes that way doesn't care is true, but I will reward such stand up behavior with my purchasing dollars.
  3. Stupidity continues to cause self-inflicted economic pain: https://news.yahoo.com/gun-manufacturer-leave-connecticut-over-gun-control-legislation-213413895--finance.html Surprise, motherfcuker, some folks have principals and will act to defend them: Turd.
  4. Picked this up yesterday from the library (for you young folks, that's the big building with paper books inside). OUT-fcukin'-STANDING! Great writing, great descriptions of small unit combat, new leader self-questioning while trying not to show it to the guys, FOBBIT queep, and the futility of erstwhile allies like Pakistan sheltering Taliban and Co. to R&R (using our aid money to Pakistan to buy medicine for wounds received before) returning to the fight against us. Stayed up last night reading this in one go. It is that good.
  5. Outstanding. That is a publishable magazine story - just need to add some cool pics of, say, a C-130 to make it sexy. Happy to help point you in the right direction to get started. Get a story or two published and the F-16 book in you is ready to be written.
  6. More economic consequences for Colorado's stupidity and liberalism: https://dailycaller.com/2013/04/01/hiviz-shooting-systems-leaving-colorado-credits-state-gun-laws/ Good on 'em. Another company that I already buy and happy to continue supporting 'em. C'mon, Colt, say adios to Connecticut!
  7. That was my way of acknowledging the title under your avatar. My original, now largely regretted for even entering this thread, post was that one guy left because he didn't like the BS being thrown by a few according to what you described. I think that's on him, not the BS throwers. You, apparently as I read your posts, are pissed at the posters who write BS. Seeing buffoonery in public is also a learning experience for new or wannabe officers, not just aviators. That, btw is where I see baseops at. It's not just for and about rated guys. It has grown for the better as far as mentoring or sharing gouge. Those new or wannabes from many backgrounds can learn from any selfish acts they see or read as well as from any good advice.
  8. My only interaction with Rich was a few e-mails trying to figure out how to do an ad here for a book. He couldn't have been more of a nice guy. I agree about the fundamental idea about the site helping others become aviators. It has also become a place where not just new aviators, even, gasp, but non-rated as well can learn from their rated brethren and in some cases, the opposite occurs as well to make the AF a better place. If the site, you and others who have picked up the ruck following Rich's passing, don't want the political/social discussions, don't allow them. I'm not defending anyone, save myself, but if you are going to allow one viewpoint, then why not the other? Or none at all if that's the case. If someone leaves voluntarily, then it's their choice and not the fault of those they disagree with. I'm not looking for a fight and not looking to get banned. But if it's strictly a place where only like minds are to gather, then why bother having forums where opinions, right or wrong, agree with 'em or disagree with 'em vehemently, are allowed to be expressed at all?
  9. CH, this didn't seem right to me. The forums, which I assume is the area to which you refer, is only one part of the baseops site. I freely acknowledge and defer to your greater experience and knowledge of the behind the scenes workings of the site and any poster leaving or not and the operations of the site. That said, if the condemnation for some posters is that great, then why not ban them? I don't want that and argue that the opinions of nsplayer, vertigo, et al, are as valid as anyone elses. Certainly they are different than many of us and thus provide a different view and perspective that is just as valid. Without such, this becomes a backslapping community that stagnates. The departed poster choose to remove himself rather than continue to engage. So be it is my opinion. It appears he ceded the field to his adversaries and negates much of what he posted about doing the opposite. Our national society is undergoing some pretty significant changes. Some are cheering them on, some are dreading them. But the dudes who are in or want to be in have to deal with those issues as they affect our military and our Air Force specifically. Punching out metaphorically is one way to deal with it, but what does that do for those seeking advice from those that have been there, done that? Like it or not, gays in the military, dealing with fair treatment under the regs, etc, is something that commanders now and in the future have to deal with. Tuning in here, to me, seemed to offer some perspectives that could help a dude make a good call when it came time to do so. On that line, it also appears that homage regarding every post as the greatest thing ever written wasn't received and it appeared green to be somewhere else from now on. Combat employment of the A-10? Definitely worth STFU and listening to. How to handle various situations elsewhere in the military or in one's life, not so much, especially when the response was often derogatory and belittling which is what I observed when young'uns were engaged. Even the relevancy of the employment posts has to fade with time as the world moves and things, including TTPs, change. This appears an exercise in free will to no longer waste time engaging here. Fair enough. But replying to any post is also an exercise in free will. It's just as easy to say nothing than encourage buffoonery that is being called "sh1t thrown on the wall." But it is a personal choice, not the fault of others.
  10. Added a Pacymahr Decelerator to my XDS and test fired it yesterday. Much better to shoot now. The snappy recoil combined with the uber-4x4-type grip really worked a number on my, apparently, girly-hand. The Decelerator, made for the model specifically, really helped cushion the recoil and added just a bit of needed girth (sts) to the grip. Standard carry is now the Pearce Grip magazine pinky-extension and this. Me likey the gun much better now.
  11. Broadsides: The Age of Fighting Sail, 1775-1815 by Nathan Miller. Tough sumb1tches to sail and fight in those things. Not to mention the same careerism and incompetence issues then as today.
  12. Stupid should hurt economically: MAGPUL leaving CO:https://www.denverpos...hers?source=rss Respect to the company for sticking to its principles. Colt eyeing leaving CThttps://www.foxnews.c...ticut-amid-gun/ I hope they do.
  13. I use my Springfield Champion GI model as my "racing" gun. Try different springs, parts, sights, etc on it. Had it bobtailed which looks cool, but when shooting I actually like the straight-edge. Great, reliable, well-made 1911 for a decent price (prior to the current lunacy). Now if only ammo were not like unicorns at present...

  15. Best headline not used on this story: https://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/st-petersburg-police-shoot-man-they-say-was-suicidal/2108146 Glock, paper, scissors. not my joke, but one of the best in a long time...
  16. 2 It's not that hard and this is incredible stuff. Do it.
  17. And with a few under their breath mutters about "ungrateful, disloyal,'' Big Blue will continue on its merry way never to change. Kudos to the guy for walking the walk and I bet he has no issue with looking himself in the mirror, but Big Blue simply doesn't care. Lesson for good and evil to young'uns. Do you want to be good, Danny?
  18. I got to hang with a E-2C squadron aboard the Kitty Hawk a long time ago. One of the coolest experiences of my military career. But I was damned glad that I knew it was for a finite length of time before going back to Kadena. -Interchangeable water/JP-8 when showering - using something like a bar soda dispenser. -Bunking with two other dudes in a space the size of a closet. Couldn't imagine repeated tours of that at 6-8 months per. -If wanting any sort of promotion to O-4 or above having to do not only the queepy additional duties but also learning all the ship driving stuff - OOD, etc. Without doing that, you self-eliminate for promotion and command consideration. I give kudos to the USN because, at the time anyway, they were very "the book only tells you what you can't do" mentality. If the book didn't say 'no,' you pressed. They treated their officers like grown-ups, but if you fcuked up, they hammered mercilessly. They did not treat their enlisted like grown-ups. Man, that really sucked to live like that and be treated like that. Some of us chose to turn right at the recuiters, some turned to the left. And that made all the difference...
  19. https://news.yahoo.com/ark-police-photograph-license-plates-store-data-180420324.html Substitute "gun registration" for "license plate" and wonder why so many are against gun registration. The government is not your friend.
  20. GAWDDAMMIT, post some sort of warning prior to placing that undead photo. Major party foul.
  21. He wasn't quite so lucky, or careful, in all his endeavors: https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3249472.stm Technique only.
  22. Obama got his tax hike when the Republicans caved a month or so ago. He gained $600B more in taxes without having to cut a dime. This cuts $85B. Pretty good deal for Obama. And since 1/2 of it comes from defense, he's fine with it. Bye ICBMs, bye new subs, bye 100K troops. He really doesn't care about you. Actually, doesn't really like you to tell the truth. I will be directly impacted when sequestration hits. And I say Bring It. Then when the government funding showdown happens next month, I say call his bluff again. We are broke.
  23. Bingo! So despite the one's theory that no one with a clearance should ever write anything, how about A) know whether you are writing about something is classified, was classified, and where you obtained the source material and B) follow the rules as you swore to do when you took Uncle Sam's money and obtain clearance if required? I can assure you that both A and B are easy to accomplish. Broadwell banged a general as a civilian unless she did it while on orders too. She took classified stuff home as a Reserve Lt Col and got caught. She's not Amn or 2Lt Snuffy who is inexperienced. She had a career working with classified. She looks like she got complacent and figured the rules didn't apply. I'm sure she's crying all the way to the publisher for her next book and the movie rights for her Petreaus tome.
  24. I don't fault you one bit for seeking better, BUT that "convenience to the government" clause in every contract makes an immediate and tempting target when it gets down to shutting money off.
  25. BTW, I read the NM gun bill. Except for the magazine restrictions which is 10-15 (what happened to the Holy Grail of 10 or less?), the entire thing bans weapons due to cosmetic reasons. Absolutely every item listed was an adjective about appearance, not function - pistol grip/flash suppressor/thumbhole stockbayonet lug/adjustable stock, etc, etc, etc. They're not even trying hard. This ought to be a slam dunk legal case if it passes. Hopefully, the Gov does veto it.
