Like promotes like.

And yet essentially the same system is reborn itself every generation. Why is that? Like promotes like for the most part.

Cool story, bro: a long time ago on an island far away: 21 I/APZ for major - 11 F-15 drivers, 2 KC-135 pilots, 1 E-3 pilot, 1 E-3 nav, 3 E-3 ABMs, 1 ground ABM, 1 CE, 1 Contracting, 1 other non-rated/don't remember. 11 DPs were given to 11 F-15 drivers including one with a DUI picked up in that assignment The E-3 pilot was a Flt/CC, one of the E-3 ABMs was Chief of Current Ops in OSS, another in the squadron. The ground ABM was DO of a GSU flight (really a small squadron). Unknown responsibilities of the KC- guys or the non-rated guys. E-3 folks were O for 5, as was the ground ABM'er. Unknown about the KC-135 guys or the non-rated. After a long, painful, never ever believe in the Air Force IG system because they aren't impartial, turns out ALL the PRFs were given to the 3 Eagle SQ/CCs prior to the WG/CC and some were 'dumbed' down. It wasn't just one guy who got screwed but an entire base/year group. Final tally was two of those now O-6-select Eagle guys 'retired' in the middle of AWC, the former WG/CC was found responsible for 3 of 5 findings by the IG and directed to write a letter of apology to the complaintent. As he was a two-star by then, it was a bit awkward to run into him in the Pentagon. But he really suffered by getting his third star. And Big Blue's solution to the 10 folks who were screwed by the actions of others doing something despicble? "You can apply to the Board of Corrections..." Not relook at the entire group, but each could fend for him/herself. As some years had now passed, most separated and built their lives without the uniform. And this is just one more story. This thread, each of our experiences if filled with similar. Yeah, it's a good system...

Liquid, I don't know who you are or your rank. I hope you are in there fighting the good fight and have been taking care of your people while trying to make the USAF a better place. I hope, but I don't know. What I do know is that you aren't winning. You like the 'system' for the most part because you have, apparently, done well in it. Like tends to like. But by the anecdotal evidence presented on page after page here, and empirical evidence on what promotion boards consider - AAD, race, gender, etc, etc, etc, - compared to what we are taught as professionals as to what is important - technical/job proficiency, growing juniors, etc, etc, etc, - the system isn't very good. Contrary to some of those views here, this isn't a recent thing. Big Blue has been this way since 1947. Before that, as part of Big Green, it was just as fcuked up. But don't say it's good and getting better.

All of the above, but ESPECIALLY this.

These guys: https://www.texascustomholsters.com/ I ordered from them several months and and they delivered promptly, I just drug my ass in installing. Actually, in having it installed. Fitting it as designed by my knee would have been too confining for my longer than the average bear's legs in a 328i. Once I determined to install it under the steering column, I knew I was out of my league as I didn't want to drill holes into things I couldn't see. They custom fit it to the weapon, in my case an XD-s. Leather holster, plastic spacer for room for the hand to make a draw, padded insert to protect the car from the plastic. Me likey...

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)

I had my IT guys check this site and this thread in particular. You can expect to be hearing from the IRS soon... -
I don't think the paranoia about personal belongings/opinions being controlled in unjustified. https://www.cnn.com/2013/05/09/politics/facebook-lawmaker-threat/index.html Now admittedly, if a threat was made that's a different aspect, but the story I read yesterday didn't mention any such, merely a private individual's facebook page with "offensive to Marine women" posts. One wonders what "they" will think of Baseops.

Don't want to jinx it for myself or get anyone's hopes up, but a bulk ammo site I use a lot - Georgia Arms - finally changed their home page from "We're out, don't know when we'll have more" to "Call us to order up to 500 rounds per caliber." So I did last week for some .380. Lady did the standard "could be up to 1-3 months" but I got a UPS shipping notification today that it's on the way. A break in the ammo drought?

Really? https://washingtonexaminer.com/napolitano-its-not-law-enforcements-job-to-decide-what-counts-as-enforcing-the-law/article/2527930 https://dailycaller.com/2012/06/15/obama-administration-enforces-some-laws-others-not-so-much/ https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/23/obama-doma-unconstitutional_n_827134.html Surely it's not ok for the rules to apply to some and not others?

GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter
brickhistory replied to Muscle2002's topic in General Discussion
Odierno's behavior was wrong. Regardless of what party the d-bag is doing the questioning, it is the military's role to answer factually and unemotionally. Se the one star calling Sen Boxer "Ma'am" for the correct TTP. Here is where I start to put my spin on it vice just the facts: I believe Odierno was p.o.'d, but because Big Green handled DCGS-A badly and have been called out repeatedly by Congress in general and Hunter in particular. Odierno doesn't like having to explain himself. I also believe he has political aspirations in his not too distant future with a big D after his name. This footage will be in campaign ad... edited to spell DCGS-A correctly -
GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter
brickhistory replied to Muscle2002's topic in General Discussion
Yep. If you think the congressman didn't leave and sic his staff on finding a way to punish Odierno (deservedly), I think you are naïve. But I see Odierno with political ambitions a la Wesley Clark. Democrat with military experience and a favorite of this Administration. -
GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter

Another example of the politization (sp?) of the military. We expect petty BS from Congress but not from the military. Not a good thing and a great way to get your budget slashed. -
Hoppes has been around forever. It's what I use. Both the solvent and the lube oil.

Agreed. Their sign off line was telling. Still worth the time to watch it.

CNBC ran a show tonight called "America's Rifle: The AR-15." They mostly played it straight, covering pro- and anti-. I am sure they will re-run it.

Hmmm, maybe I can pitch a show idea to History, Discovery, or Playboy channels... It's about hard-drinkin', hard-charging blue-collar good ol' boys who dredge the waters of the Gulf of Mexico for firearms. I'm thinking of calling it "The Deadliest Catch." Beats crabbing...

I agree that if it's serious, you should lawyer up. I don't agree that USAF won't 'unofficially' punish you. Suddenly you aren't the one picked for school, upgrade, instructor/evaluator, follow-on, etc despite having been on that track immediately prior to ATF (or other incident/agency) showing an interest. Getting outside the herd is scary to most leadership and most don't know how to deal with it. If you've got a good commander, hopefully, you won't. Hope is never a serious strategy. Cool story bro: Former ops officer accused of child molestation after daughter, given a car based upon maintaining good grades, gets it taken after not doing so. AFOSI investigates, it is a "he said, she said" situation with no forensic proof, no other indicators, nada. Even contradictory evidence of being TDY when accused of incidents back at home station. One star WG/CC recommends court-martial. Takes jury less than 1 hour to find "not guilty." WG/CC tells ops officer you were found "not guilty, you weren't found innocent." Funny how an Aggressor, weapons school grad, major-select ops officer with all squares filled finds himself with a follow-on assignment to a junior captain's billet. And got out and is making a gajillion bucks on the outside. That "needs of the Air Force" thing is a pretty powerful tool when used for evil that can't be proved. Once again, it comes down to leadership, both personal and heirarchical (sp?). If you've got a good boss, then I agree with your position. If you've got the far more typical one, then the choice gets tougher - if it's a witch, she'll float and if she's not, she'll drown. edited to add: Perhaps this should be a separate thread since it is only tangentially related to guns? An advice/opinion on how to handle BS outside the Air Force that affects you in the Air Force?
-
This. Absolutely tough call to make. Talk to ATF hoping it all goes quietly away or stick to your guns (no pun intended) and realize that Big Blue is 98% guarenteed to look at you unfavorably if ATF lets 'em know you aren't rolling over. Seen it in ugly divorces, seen it when AFOSI is scrambling to find someone, anyone to hang a charge on so they get the pressure off them, seeing it now when a 3-star makes a decision regarding a court-martial and Big Blue and the DoD are going belly-up like the weakest dog in the pack. As young captain/SSgt in the middle of the wife/little kid/establishing a career for the long-term treadmill, the choice can be different than as a grumpy old man who can tell the "man" to take a hike.

They are required to keep it for a long time - exact time I forget, but it's in the many years, 10-20. There is a defacto gun registration already existing, fortunately the ATFE had been largely ineffective in doing their basic job of inspecting licensed FFLs. Too busy walking guns along the border and in Wisconsin. Sure wish I'd "found" that full-auto they lost from an unlocked car. YGTBSM...

Actually, I've found it more practical to look down when dealing with the drunken, passed out Irish. Plus they scare the horses...
