How much time is there between your planned wedding and OTS start date? When is the next earliest OTS class start date? I know that occassionally UPT dates get moved up, but I don't know how often that happens in OTS. I know that if it happens for UPT and you're unable to flex due to previous committment, there's bound to be somebody willing to take your place. You're gonna be updating that crap your entire career, don't let that factor into your equation.

Uhhh...he washed out of his formal training course, never got a chance to be a pilot, and then his father died. Yup, sounds like a happy ending to me.

Good for her. I think it's unfortunate that her parents, or these magazines, elevated her (and I imagine her ego) to such a high status before she even got behind the controls of a USAF aircraft. I think that perhaps the bashing is a bit excessive in hindsight, but I think it would have been completely warranted had she been in, or prior to starting, UPT. There's no way that having been the star of your family, hometown, and whatever organization published this, could have been helpful. It either put her up on a pedestal with too high expectations, or it inflated her self-worth. As far as this coming out in UPT, I hope she dealt with it okay. And the fact that she's a chick...who gives a $hit. If we found out dirt like this on a guy student in UPT, we'd be merciless. I would expect sexual equality all around. Trying to keep this on track with the washout stories, I don't have any spectular stories as a T-38 or F-15 IP, but I've seen my fair share wash out and SIE (Self Initiated Elimination). Most of the washouts in T-38s were guys who were fairly dedicated, just didn't have the hands or capacity to keep up with the jet. Most of the guys I've seen wash out of the FTU seemed to be behind the jet in both a flying and mental capcity. And to prove that not all MIAs from formal training are chicks, we had a male student up and leave one weekend from Seymour. Everybody showed up to class Monday morning and he was nowhere to be found. The SRO couldn't get in touch with him, so they called the flight commander, who called the SFS to go to his house. No sign of the guy, so they called his parents to see if they had heard from him. Said parents, "Uh...yeah, he's hear with us." Turns out the guy had just freaked out and driven to Kentucky without telling anyway and with no plans of returning. No idea what happened to him, but I know did not return to the program.

Great story. Since this thread is about "handling uniform Nazis" and not a squabble between NAVs, FEs, EWOs, etc., it has been purged of that extraneous bitch-fest.

I didn't even know these existed until I had about eight years in service. They're awesome if nothing more than a place to sit down and chill while you're waiting for your flight. I'll add two to the list - RDU and BWI. RDU (Raleigh Durham): Not as big as Atlanta or BWI, but generally well stocked and the staff are great. There's not much room, but they jam a lot of stuff in there. There's about 10 lazy boys in front of a wide screen TV, TVs with PS and xBox along the other wall, and a kids area. I usually get to the airport two hours prior to my flight knowing that I can chill here. They have a few computers with internet access and they just recently going free wireless access. The kitchen is usually stocked with donations from local businesses. I would give it three stars as an average USO, but the fact that the dedicated staff keep it open 24 hours (having been stuck at Atlanta and BWI overnight with nowhere to crash) gives it an extra star. 4/5. BWI (Baltimore Washington): It's been a while since I've been here, but I remember it being about the same size and service as ATL. What was nice was they actually had a separate rooms with cots where you could rack out if it was going to be a while until your flight was there. Had a flight cancelled in '01 when I was PCS to England and four families from my B course (with a total of like seven kids) hung out in the USO for around eight hours - 4/5 stars.

So apparently you didn't see over in the military aviation thread.

I can't say for sure, but I would definitely advice you to get your junk fixed now. Maybe it's just me, but if I had a cyst (or anything else abnormal) on my sack, I'd be spring loaded to getting it removed. I don't if he explained variocele to you other than to call it a "bag of woms," but it's basically a blockage of the veins within the scrotum. While this shouldn't affect your flying status at all, it could affect your chance of having kids. Fixing it is an out-patient procedure, but it will DNIF you for period of weeks to months. If you're thinking of having kids while you're on flying status, I would recommend getting a fertility test and if it comes back not looking good, I would consider having surgery on the variocele. There's no guarantee, but it's a shot.

And yet you essentially disregarded his advice. Yes, that is a good deal of respect. Pretty much. Ever heard of that "First impression" saying? In case it's not overwhelmingly clear what your next course of action should be -- shut the f*** up, listen to what everybody has said, and become a fly a wall. While you're at it (in case nobody mentioned it yet), you might want to change your name. Don't worry, keep up the attitude and your future IPs will end it for you. Yes, and we learned a great lesson -- never pass up a good opporunity to shut the f*** up. Shack. Jesus tap-dancing Christ, what a turd-polished sound bite. You sound like you'd make a perfect PA goob and/or shoe clerk. Obviously, as has been shown by the responses to your post. Well, it would appear that none of them are members of this forum. Let me help you with that... Sperm Burping Gutter Slut Vaginal Blood Fart Frozen Blood Soaked Tampon Popsicle M2's b!tch f***er A$$hole + Peg Number Rainman ate me, shit me out, and he's still fat "I started this lame thread and everybody hates me" McGee Seriously - just shut your piehole and go away for a while.

It's called TDY. You ask your unit, they cut you orders.
-
M2, before you do... This one time I got real drunk and I picked up a fat ugly chick. I took her bag to my place, found a paper bag, and we went at it all night. We stopped for a while so she could order a pizza, but other than that we kept going. Nobody saw me take her home, and I deleted all my web cam footage of the two of us. Should I confess to this, or is it ever going to come up again?
-
The reg is AFI 36-3003. If it is permssive TDY, it doesn't have the benefits you're thinking. As mentioned, you don't get per diem for PTDY and in fact you don't get paid for anything relating to it. Essentially, PTDY is used when you're doing something loosely related to, but not actual official business. Primarily it prevents you from using leave when you're doing something duty-related. I used in as a Lt when I went back home for a week or so. I got a couple days PTDY when I volunteered to go back to my old Det and talk to the cadets. A lot of people use it for house hunting prior to a PCS. If your unit is paying to bring you home over the holidays and getting you per diem, it is NOT permissive TDY.

Ops and Maintenance officially combine
Toro replied to Right Seat Driver's topic in General Discussion
It's official. Latest from T. Mike - we're moving MX back under Ops for fighters and CSAR. According to the boss: The wheels on the bus go round and round... Reorganization_of_Wg_Maintenance_and_Logistics_CSAF_memo.pdf -

Unfortunately, I’ve got your first answer, so here goes. Don’t take any of this personally, because it’s all sincere. First off, present your topic in a more coherent matter. Seriously. Your entire topic could have been summed up with the sentence, “How can I convince my mother that being an Air Force pilot is what is best for me?” I don’t care where this epiphany was bestowed upon you, just get to the point. That being said, let’s get to the matter at hand… Have your mom read anything about recent conflicts and she’ll realize that an extremely low number of pilots have been lost in combat - this isn’t Vietnam. That aside, tell your mom that you’re more likely to be killed driving into work than you are flying an AF sortie. I sure do…my mom loves what I do. She could not be more proud of me for the job I do, and she takes every opportunity to brag to everybody she knows about me. Mothers are mothers – I’m sure yours would do the same if you starting flying. Okay…I’m totally missing something here – how are your thinking that either of those two choices will harm your GPA? If you can cook toast and count your toes you should be able to be a comm major…this is coming from a guy who was a comm major. What loans? Do you realize that when you enter the military, your loan interest is deferred? Sack up and grow a pair…seriously, if you want to be a pilot, you’ll need them. Push your mother into a corner and make her talk to you about it. You want to fly jets and potentially kill people for a living and you can’t even talk to your mom? Yikes.

Yup. We had a B course make two huge placards, each in the shape of an F-15, with enough pegs for all the instructors mugs. We had a later B course who got sick of drinking out of plastic cups, so they made a third F-15 mug holder and bought enough mugs for everybody with "FNG (1-24)" on them.

Un-f***ing-believable AF Times article on Cosmo F-15 pilot You'd think that if your name is being dragged through the mud in the fighter pilot community at the speed of e-mail, the best thing you could do is just shut your piehole. Apparently "Cosmo" doesn't seem to think so, he had plenty to say to the AF Enquirer, including: Right, you've only been cited with reviving the pilot-on-crew-chief homosexual stigma that C model community might have one day overcome. Simply stunning.
-
Yeah! We started off with a Japanese exchange student in Phase 1, and the patch started from us joking about his accent.
-
Talking to a retired mechanic the other day and he told me a cool quote that he overheard between a cocky F-4 pilot and his mechanic, who was asking how to become a pilot. Pilot – “It takes a college education to fly this thing.” Mechanic – “Well it takes a GED to work on it. I wonder if you’re coming back today.”

Since Bender’s too lazy to include some of the humorous forwards, here you go, compiled from the three separate email forwards I’ve received.
-
Concur - that's exactly what I needed. Turns out K is a regular instructor and T is a formal training (FTU) instructor. It also answered my second question - certain models within the same airframe do have different AFSCs.
-
I know a T prefix is instructor, Q prefix is an Evaluator. What's a K prefix? And does anybody have a link that breaks down the components of an AFSC and/or an AFSC list? I've looked through AFPC, but I get "Access Denied" to the FAQs subjects that seem relevant. MPF has completely jacked up my information in the past six months (unbelievable, I know). My OPR data, overseas data, tour dates, and AFSC info are all wrong. I know the AFSC is incorrect, but I need to find out what it should be. Also, if you transition to a different model of the same airframe, should your duty AFSC change? Normally I'd ask MPF, but they've already proved themselves incompetent.
-
Apparently Bender's fallen off wagon and landed face down in a ditch.
-
Seems to work fine - I've cleaned out a bunch of old threads on popular topics that had multiple-pages of threads (LASIK, IFS, vision, etc.) with minimal responses. When you fixed the three-digit search problem, did you do something to the "Advanced Search Help" button on the expanded search option page? It was up by the "Search by keywords" container on the top left.
-
Yes. Anyone who is not born and bred in the US will have issues. I had a student recently whose mother was Egyptian and father was Israeli (yeah, odd combo). I can't remember where he grew up, but it was somewhere abroad. He got his secret clearance but after 6-9 months in ops he still didn't have a TS.

Dickhead switch on. Search for "Syllabus" reveals this five page thread with the last post about a month ago. Navy vs. AF training - In there Corpus and Whiting issues - In there Pushing weak studs through the AF program - In there Good discussion, but unless you've got a T-6 syllabus for S&C, take it over there. Dickhead switch off.
