  1. Revival.......... Does anyone here have experience with with any of the Garmin Nuvi _70 models (270, 370, 670, 770)? Looking at this particular one (370) because it has the North American & European maps built it with it....just wondered how good the European maps are. Or, has anyone has downloaded and used the European maps that you can download for the Garmins.
  2. That's awesome, on both accounts. Well done.
  3. Due to a request by someone close to the accident and out of respect to those fallen aviators, I have moved the posts regarding the grounding and subsequent return to flight of the USAF T-38s from the SPS crash post. If you want to talk about the T-38 issue, this is the place to do it (sts), not the accident thread.
  4. Yup, they do it also (sts) at UPT. Yes, it's ALWAYS an IP...never a stud.
  5. "2".........what a selfless gesture. Heard the memorial service went very well yesterday. Nickel on the grass......
  6. I have an '07 KLR, and just to give you an idea of mpg.....I get about 35-40 if I'm running out on the highway at 75+ mph, but slow down and you're mileage will go WAY up. When riding the streets to and from work, I'm averaging between 50-60, and on trail/dirt/fire roads I'm getting between 60-65. And I'm running almost everything stock. Dual-sports aren't the most popular bikes out there, and while they do a couple of things well, they aren't GREAT at any one thing. You're not getting a Ninja & a KX all-in-one, so don't expect that out of the bike. The KLR is a GREAT bike if you know what you're getting into. Like said above, it's extremely reliable and easy to maintain. It's also VERY affordable compared to other bikes out there. I walked out with a brand new one last year for a little under $5K. If you look, you can ALWAYS find places to go KLRing. Always. Any more ?s, PM me.

    Gun Talk

Due to a recent crime spree of cat burgulars here in the Luke area, I'm thinking it's finally time to purchase a gun to use for self protection. I've shot several guns (not just the mandatory USAF trips to the range) but have never owned one. So, what (I think) I'm looking for.......a handgun that will work well around the house for self protection. It doesn't have to be one that I could carry concealed with a permit, though if it doubled as that, I suppose it would be a bonus. I don't have a get a 5 dollar P.O.S., but other than going to a range a couple of times with the wife so we can both shoot it, I don't plan to really use it that often (hopefully, I will never need to use it for it's intended purpose!) I don't need to get something that will last through 69,000 shots either.... again, don't plan to use it that much. Also, for those of you that have small/young kids around the house, what do you use to protect them from the gun? Does any particular one have better "child-proofing" features than others? So...what's the perfect gun for me, where should I buy it, and how much am I looking at spending for it? Thanks all!
  8. DeHavilland Thanks for your reply. What did you do about your spouse/kids (if you have either!). Thanks!
  9. Might as well ask...... Anyone figure out how to get the AF to pay for a civilian (tourist) passport? We're in the process of getting the official ones to get to our OCONUS location, but everyone says you need the blue one once you get there to travel around. Ideas? Or, better yet...do you really need both a civilian & a government/no-fee passport? I'vd heard from people who say you HAVE to have one, and I've met folks who just returned from a long OCONUS tour and never had the government one to begin with....
  10. I dont' know about the logistics of refueling a Herc, but I went there a year ago in the tweet to the civilian side. Refueling was pretty expeditious, base transpo will come over to the civilian side and pick you up and take you to billeting. Then, billeting is a short walk to the train, which will take you all the way to downtown St Louie for 2 or 3 bucks. You can get into Cards games for free if there's space available. There are worse places!
  11. That doesn't seem right. He went straight from a 172 to a -38?
  12. Only 16K hours? That's brand new compared to some of the Tweets on the ramp at SPS!
  13. Tocs If you're here at Luke, just use your appropriate channels to find out, if you have a need to know. What the MXG/CC commander said doesn't really have any place on this forum. PM me if you have any questions.
  14. Those dudes left Luke a month ago. They are F-16 complete.
  15. When I was an RSU controller back at SPS, we used to do the same thing with the light gun to students we had making their 1st trip out to the RSU. Red light, left hand...green light, right hand...white light, both hands....then move back further from the RSU to make sure it works at various distances. Good times.........would have been even better with those Radar Calibration Paddles!
  16. So when something like this happens, does the SIB get extra time, or is their report still due within 30 days? If they just got some of the wreckage this week, yet their 30 day report is also due this week.....is there any leeway for this?
  17. Nice! 4 nametags.....awesome!
  18. I received PMs from several of you, so I thought I'd just post the donation information in the main forum. From the bulletin from the service yestereday: "Non tax-deductible gifts can be made directly to the Mitchell Family by dropping payments off at any Credit Union West branch for deposit into the Mitchell Family Memorial Fund." Here's the info on Credit Union West: https://www.creditunionwest.org/ I've had several members of baseops members contact me about donating. I talked to the Credit Union today to find out ways for baseops-ers to donate since few of you actually live in Phoenix, and there's 2 methods you can use. 1) Check - make the check out to Credit Union West and put in the memo line "Mitchell Memorial Fund." You might also include a letter stating that the check is for the memorial fund. Then send the check to Credit Union West Mitchell Memorial Fund PO Box 7600 Glendale, AZ 85312 2) Call your bank and send the money via wire transfer. CUW's routing number is 322172153. If you do this, please call Melinda at (602)631-3482 and let her know (she works at CUW, obviously) and she will make sure the money gets deposited into the memorial account. Any more questions, send me a PM.
  19. Had a very nice memorial service here today for Dave. Didn't know him personally, but from what I've learned about him, he was a great dude who is sorely missed. Please keep his family in your prayers, especially his wife; she is 5ish months pregnant with their 1st child. If anyone wants info on how they can donate to the family, send me a PM.
  20. No. The dorms for the single dudes suck, but base housing isn't that bad at Sheppard. I have certainly seen worse! I lived in 'em for 5+ years, and if I was going to move back on base, I'd gladly live there again.
  21. Him, Him....
  22. While I agree that Mardon does good work, as alluded to above, their customer service and (moreso) their turn-around times are not the greatest. Anyone know a place to do nametags other than Mardon?
  23. For the love of God, I just don't understand how people get to be that fvcking stupid. Seriously.
  24. He was a FAIP. FAIPs are exempt from TAMI-21.
