  1. cant tell how much in tongue in cheek and how much is wistful thinking
  2. Quick tip man.... find those magic illusion pictures that you stare at and see a hidden 3d object and practice on those if you have to go again, i went from struggling a civilian randot to completing it before they finished explaining the test
  3. Excerpt from Business Week article: "Be that as it may, the Obama administration notified the Syrian government that the strikes were coming on Monday, likely to reduce the risk of a U.S. fighter jet being shot down, and five Arab governments supported the offensive. There was reason to worry about risks from surface-to-air missiles, as the Air Force Times reported: “The Syrian defense system has been cast by Pentagon leadership as highly advanced, and was cited as a reason U.S. forces could not launch raids on the Assad regime in the early days of the Syrian civil war.” " so thats how 21st century stealth works? https://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-09-23/f-22-raptor-makes-combat-debut-in-syria-in-strikes-on-islamic-state
  4. FC1 should be able to to be done by your units flight surgeon. you can do the MFS after youre picked up
  5. agreed. i hope the majors are forced to absorb them and eat the loss... they were such a work around money grab anyways
  6. i had heard 38 instructors were short a couple years ago. may have changed
  7. well hopefully this is a boon to airline pilots that are already there and regional guys that can start making some money
  8. Xcraft - youve pretty much hit the nail on the head of what i was trying to get across, and in a much more articulate manner as well ;)
  9. id also see what kind of subsidized federal loans/grants/scholarships you can qualify for as well for school that may help you speed up your classes. Good luck man!
  10. I agree with you on all accounts that it is risky, which is why i stated it is a last resort hail mary kind of a thing. And im not advocating going around the guys running the board, just getting pointed in their direction. I understand they are a high ranking officer but as a civilian do you think they are really going to be that upset over a letter? A civilian could send a letter to the CSAF asking him something and he may or may not get a helpful response. I understand these guys are super busy and youre right, on a bad day it might torpedo you. But a little flattery and earnest can go along way. again this is a last resort option (ie: age critical etc)
  11. with the shortage in IPs right now i have no idea why they would do that and not utilized a guy who knows how to fly?
  12. Can we agree this law has been an extreme overreaction - 6 hours in a level 3+ sim and 4 hours in a level 4 FTD?
  13. I get where your coming from, but the recruiter runaround can get frustrating if your not being given good information. Often times most of the units dont list who the POC for UPT boards is on their website, but you go here or wantscheck and BAM they list the guys running it. I guess i dont see how a smartly worded snail mail letter would hurt. Wing CCs are people too, everyone likes getting letters ;)
  14. thats got to be a joke... multi engine turbine time in a class c simulator for an airlift frame and they wont take it? lol
  15. haha thats a whole 'nother discussion my friend... the best i can say is trying to get into contact with one of the dudes running the board. last resort, a written letter addressed to the wing commander couldn't hurt?
  16. They might only hire within who knows, you set on air lift because i know the CANG F15 unit just announced a board
  17. i agree, oct is my FC1/MFS and im looking at jan-march for AMS, sounds like they are trying to squeeze in :)
  18. ah yes... you are correct sir confused with the OTS boards. deleted previous post to prevent confusion. yes AD boards on average between 20-40 slots historically :)
  19. 109th is a cool wing/mission, good amount of flying too, and not to the desert either ;)
  20. id be interested in seeing a correlation between the power output and directions of the radars and the cancers contracted distributed by type along with other sources of exposure in their area (ie air bases that are known superfund sites, launch rockets, etc etc). several of these cancer types are not generally found from exposure to radiation (stomach cancer) and others could be attributed to pilots distinct lack of love for being open and honest with their docs (getting regular check ups/prostate exams) also it would be interesting to see the comparison of the River Rats information with commercial pilots both with and without military experience
  21. airlines are going to be retiring like 4 pilots an hour in the next 10 years (or something like that i swear) couple that with the new ATP written requiring like 6+ hours of class c SIM time i would say theres some serious incentive over the next couple of years to clear out some of the top heavy guys
  22. guard/reserve ..... apply to those while AD is figuring out its pilot mess... then when AD starts picking up OTS pilots again, if you havent already been picked up by an ARC apply there too. maximize your chances my brutha
  23. are they still zero'd out on pilot slots?
  24. Thank you, its not that i dont trust my recruiter, its the damn sequester has made things kind of a nightmare all around. Thanks for the input!
  25. I was told by my recruiter that civilian applicants are no longer being pushed through meps starting with the 14OT02 board. is this true or did my recruiter just screw me on this board selection?
