Thankfully, this is a week AFTER I got to fly HABFM with JASDF Eagles from Chitose. (...and yes, I was 2 for 2 and got some pretty sweet HUD footage of an Eagle under my BATR. And no, I didn't BINGO-out first...heh.) In all seriousness, this has been a tough week for fighter aviation. USAF Viper at Nellis and a JASDF Eagle...both morts. Sucks.

I'd say that pretty much sums-up the debrief.

If your SQ/CC isn't drawing a very clear line between his mission-hacking, skilled IPs and his unskilled, repeat failure safety risks...he's fucking up as a SQ/CC. Period dot.

If your leadership were worth anything, "Mr. Repeat Q-3 who no one wants to fly with" should have that reflected on his OPRs/PRFs (ex: no strats, no "push" for promotion/school) and that problem would take care of itself.

Ah, but the WIC guys are often the most experienced in the squadron, and they're IPs that fly their asses off. Furthermore, fighter aviation isn't just about risk reduction (if it were, we'd never do anything more than instruments and AHC while single-ship). Risks have to be taken, and that means that class A's are going to happen. It's science.

It sounds like something that might work in a roll call, but it's similar to the "WHAT IF" format. As in: "WHAT IF the finance office didn't have ESPN on so many plasma screens that they actually be able to do their jobs...instead of me doing it for them..." (the then rest of the SQ echoes: "WHAT IF!") The "IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT" echo from the bros is a catchy line, but I've never actually seen it in the 3 fighter squadrons I've been in...
