Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
BFM this replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
Meh. Probably cost $50k+ ($120k+ in gub'mint dollars) a copy to give a useable display, which would probably end up less useful than the garmin slapped into the light bracket. Unless it's going to include a poor man's datalink via the ADS-B interaction with the rest of the Red side, then why bother? It fulfills the fed's requirement and keeps the trains running on time. Not to mention, any talk of an upgrade could increase the threat of a "PMP upgrade". Yeah, nah. -
Regardless of the outcome, this has been the most spirited discussion on the CAF Fighter FB page. Enough so that I'm wondering if big blue isn't going to shut it down.

So an 11F will PCS straight to a white jet base and go into IQT/MQT? Meh...probably more doable than skipping Phase III

There’s a curfew in Korea again?

Throwing your people and their families under the bus as a symbolic genuflection/trying to save face with the Japanese doesn’t solve the square root of fuck-all. Do some math. We’ve got 100k people and their families over there. Statistically, we are outperforming our national demographic in terms of crime and accidental death. Whe that’s not the public reply that should be given to our hosts, this is NOT leadership, it’s reactive CYA chickenshit.

Should be front page Navy times with an update on pilot manning crisis below the fold.

Easy: spring for the cellular data. No connection to NIPR. The co$t of $ecurity. -
Hadn’t checked in a while. Is the latest version bold/italics from cover to cover?
-
As written, sure. Completely unnecessary? It depends... Speaking from a very personal perspective.

And there it is...

Yep. Really wondering if/how he got around the Lautenburg rule.

1,000 Retired Pilots Can Be Recalled to Active Duty
BFM this replied to LookieRookie's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I read the same source. Not to poop on his efforts, but that forum, like this one, has has a signal-noise ratio more suited to spirited (and useful) discussion than hard truth data. Hopefully there will be more actionable data on Mon, but as even Roto admitted, the he was not fully read into the news story before it went to press. Bottom line: I’m not expecting a TX date if I get voluntold, and that’s the problem with this, from my selfish perspective. -

Recall me to a cockpit? Ok, I get it. Recall me to a desk? I will be raging pissed. -

This is not VRRAD, if I'm reading correctly. I did not catch the word "voluntary" anywhere in the article. This is a "recall", with specific omission of the word "voluntary". Still think it's noise and posturing. I think this would be a bigger grenade to throw than stop-loss, and we haven't heard that bandied about. ...too much. ...yet. -
Tried to cram me and my three kids (2 x Teenagers, a toddler and golden retriever) into a 1 BR TLF with lead based paint. While that was three years ago, don't bet on it.
-
Agreed. But you wouldn't be an IFF grad to stay in sunny Playa del Enid.
-
Hmmm...so lets do some math. Theres a whole squadron at HMN with jets and few if any IPs, so they're still ramping up. The leading edge of the production surge is going on a year in their ops units, pushing out the experience before them. And last but not least, if only there were somewhere to park IFF grads for two to three years while the rest of the pipeline gets up to speed. If only... Haha, nevermind, lets shut off IFF drops.

I was ambivalent about bump stocks. Don't own one, would consider it a novelty if someday I'd amassed a collection large enough to seek unique ways to entertain myself on the range. From a constitutional position, I was waiting to hear some justification; from a legislative position, I was waiting to hear how THIS was the panacea that volumes of previous laws and regulations had promised themselves to be. But just like that (*snap) I went from ambivalent to opposed. https://insider.foxnews.com/2017/10/06/nancy-pelosi-hopes-ban-bump-stocks-slippery-slope-more-gun-control Guess politics is funny like that.

Ahhh, reading comprehension fail on my part. Thought you were referring to gun manufacturers being held liable. Disregard all after...

Which is why it costs nearly half a million dollars to buy $69,000 worth of new airplane these days. Great plan!

Hmmm. So it essentially turns into a 3 year ALFA with little upside. Wonder if Big Blue can spell “incentive”. We wouldn’t be getting Growler spots if it wasn’t beneficial to the navy, but obviously not benefiting enough to cough up a boat qual course here and there. Can’t blame dudes for saying thanks but no thanks.

Or a cannon and grapeshot.

The second amendment is not about hunting. The second amendment is not about a home invasion. The second amendment is not about “toys”. The constitution does not grant rights. Neither does the government. The constitution enumerates our rights. The constitution does not empower government. It limits government. Kinda surprising to be having this conversation on this forum; expecting it from progressives.

Unless your planner is booking you months in advance, the government often can’t get the government rate. And then Orbitz is typically cheaper, but restricted fare.

The Wing/IG? Nothing: they work for him, although they can (and should) funnel SA building data to him (*cough QoL/Airmen’s time) The MAJCOM IG on the other hand, could give him some serious headaches at the next capstone.
