  1. A little too low;
  2. First one is fake, this one is real.
  3. I would say there actually IS a difference in the way they are treated. Late rated folks tend to be a little more mature and commanders usually will give them squadron jobs more appropriate to their rank. I’ve even seen a late rated co-pilot who was a flight commander. There are really two groups; 1. Dudes/dudettes who were Navigators then went to UPT – they tend to upgrade very quickly and almost always get good job in the squadron. 2. Dudes/dudettes who were went to UPT after stating off in a non-rated billet. It has been my experience that it takes them a little longer than the prior rated folks to learn the ropes, but they still learn quicker than the young guns right out of UPT. One thing to watch out for, they may try to give you such a good job that your flying suffers. I can think of two dudes off the top on my pea brain who were pushed towards career development jobs (Wing Exec – Chief of Plans), and let their currency suffer. While I appreciate that you are in a position in your career where you need a job to help you get promoted, you walk a very thin line of credibility when you fly once every ten days and it takes you two years to get enough hours (even with a waiver), to upgrade.
  4. Even more AATTC info; https://132.13.30.4/aattc/default.htm Amazing what a 6.9 second google search yeilds.

  7. Memorial Day is big down there. Having a boat is key to Memorial Day weekend. If you go to Destin the channel will be wall to wall boats. Navarre and P-cola Beach will have a ton as well. They have a poker run from Destin to P-cola and back that is also fun, but I can't remember if it is Memorial Day weekend. Whatever you do, bring your stunt liver.
  8. Grandma is an understatement...it is only 8 miles! Which way do you go?
  9. Lots of good places over in P-cola as well. A bit of a drive, but worth it to checkout P-cola beach on a weekend. Saturday and Sunday afternoons make sure to stop by Juana's out on Navarre Beach. Lots of chicks playing beach volleyball. I used to put my boat in a Jaunas and Ski on the other side of the birdge. If a storm came long (like it does almost everyday in the summer), I just drove the boat right up and parked it on the beach in front of Juana's...run inside and start drinking.
  10. I hate that place... Lots of good bars all up and down the beach.
  11. A best kept secret when visiting Fort Walton is the VOQ at Hurlburt. Recently remodeled and much nicer than Eglin. Hurlburt is only ten minutes from Eglin and much closer to the beach.
  12. We need a few more your boss.
  13. Another question for controller types - what is your current experience level for the ATC force? When I was doing the Stan/Eval gig I used to attend a monthly meeting with the controllers and airfield ops folks. In the 2000 time frame the Chief over in RAPCON was telling us the USAF controller force was at it’s worst experience level ever. I don’t remember the figures but he was basically saying a majority of controllers were getting out after their first tour. He also told us the average experience level for controllers at Eglin RAPCON at the time was less than three years. Is this a continuing problem? I assume people leave for jobs with the FAA? I would assume deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc… are taking a toll as well? ***EDIT - I Posted this at the same time you posted your previous response. I will leave it incase there are one or two other things you can pick out. *** [ 23. March 2006, 07:31: Message edited by: ClearedHot ]
  14. I read an interesting report about putting new engines on the B-52. There have been at least three major studies and a GAO REPORT that looked at the cost benefit of replacing the eight TF-33’s with four engines of another variant. The USAF even arranged for private financing of the project (first time ever), where a third party lender would provide the money for the effort then take payment over time from the savings…almost like a municipal bond for the USAF. The biggest roadblock to the project was the cost versus return. When the USAF did the analysis they computed the fuel savings based on the cost of delivering fuel to the aircraft via fuel truck. Using those cost figures, the fuel saved by using more efficient engines would NOT pay for the project. The GAO report mentioned above determined the USAF computed the fuel costs incorrectly. The GAO said that a large percentage of B-52 fuel is actually delivered via aerial tanker, which raises the delivery cost to 15 TIMES that of fuel truck delivery. Using that math, the effort would more than pay for itself. I don’t know how the recent B-52 cuts will affect the math, but it would certainly save a lot of fuel to retire the TF-33 and going to something more efficient.
  15. Echo echo echo....
  16. The profit is given back in other areas. Most of the BX's will have a sign inside the front door describing how much they have given back to the base in the form of morale and welfare projects and construction.
  17. What gives is a law that protects local and small businessmen around military bases. The stipulates that AAFES gas station prices cannot be more that a certain percentage lower that an average of local gas stations. In some ways it sucks for us, but in general protects the community and local economy.
  18. I saw a wedge go from defensive to offensive in 6.9 seconds. A bro in my UPT class is getting his formation check in the T-38. At the end of the flight we taxi clear and open the canopies. Suddenly a puff of smoke comes out of lead’s # 1 engine. Lead shuts down in place and we taxi to park nearby. When I get out of the jet I look over the check pilot is yelling at my bro. My bro tells me later that the Mx folks pulled a checklist out of the engine and the check pilot was giving him the jones… ‘ “You busted this ride, I can’t believe you let your checklist go down the intake”, at which point my bro responds.” Ah sir…, I have my checklist right here…where is yours?” Wedge

  21. The washout rates varries for multiple reasons. When I went through UPT they were well over 30%, most of them in the T-37 phase. That being said, my class did not lose ANYONE. Don't go to UPT with a percentage in your melon. You will have other things to worry about. Go there with a good work/study ethic, a great attitude, and use the desire that go you in the program, to get you to your wings.
  22. Nice...
  23. Bozz, You better hurry, isn't KSHV to KSPS about a 6.0 in the Hog?
