Anyone know of an actual statement in the regulations that says promotion ceremonies are up to the individual? I want to dispense with the nonsense and just wear it to work, but I am getting some pushback.

I disagree...shoe clerks are increasingly running the USAF. While some of our senior leaders are warriors, a large number have a number of Exceutive Officer or Aide de Camp assignments to match their operational tours. We just had a four star retire who had ZERO combat experiance. Additionally, if you look at the latest O-5 Promotion Board Results you will see a disturbing trend; High selection rate = Shoe Clerk Support Officers Next to lowest selection rate = Pilots Despite the fact that the C-Model Mafia is and has been running the USAF for a while, changes are on the way.

Where is he going to go with you? You are on the HOV which is a restricted lane with barriers on both sides. Slugging in DC requires two passengers so I guess there is more of an intimidation factor. Slugging has been going on for 18 years without a single violent crime event. The worst I have had to deal with is some religious whack job blaring his Christian talk show or the occasional dude who has to be in the left lane doing five MPH under the speed limit.

I Slug most of the week unless I have something that will keep me in the offcie past 1800. It takes me 27 minutes from my house to my office if I Slug. If I take the Metro, it takes 50 minutes. If I were foolish enough to drive, it would be well over an hour. It costs nothing, it is the fastest method, and you meet some very interesting people. I slugged in with a Federal Judge who is working a big in the news case last week. It has actually ben on the few good things about working in the puzzle palace.

I hope they mke it as painful as possible for her. Although, I don't understand the "Tip off" of having a Bronze Star and no Air Medals. A Bronze Star (without valor), is basically a wartime MSM. We had lots of folks get Bronze Star who did not fly missions (usually commander types, but possible for ALO's as well).

I don’t see anything wrong with folks that want to fly for 20 straight years and retire as a Maj or LtCol. Given changes on the way, I wonder if LtCol will be possible. The USAF is poised to cut 40,000 folks and you will be surprised at some of the areas they are looking at. A few years ago we thought everyone would make LtCol, hell I did, but it is getting tougher again and I think the trend will continue. Would I like to fly everyday and do nothing else, you bet, are those the guys I look up to, not always. My heroes are the guys that can fly AND lead you into combat. I would take exception to your “actually *working* for Uncle Sam” comment. Not that I do anything earth shattering, but I know a few folks up here who do more work than flying around the flag pole with a few Navy students. :cool: Ultimately, you have to do what makes you happy. For me I love to fly, but I want to continue to be challenged and sitting back with my feet on the desk for the last 10 years of my career was not for me. [ 10. I would not stop in Little Rock, yo umight break there. Get gas at Ellington if you can make it that far, if not got to Shreveport then on to Dallas. At least if you break in Shreveport you can go to the Casio. Dallas has tons of bars, but I have not been there in a few years. Hey all you aggies...whoop...There is a place in Dallas with a bunch of bars in the same place, you can stumble from one right to the next, is that downtown?

Hacker, Unlike the old days I think the Masters is more of an issue when you are up for LtCol, but I could be wrong. I looked at the demographics from my O-5 board and they no longer track education on the post promotion analysis.
