I am a total space geek and have been reading up on the upcoming mission back to the moon. There is some SERIOUS turmoil in the community over the decisions that have been made. The orbital mechanics are VERY different and is many ways, more risky mainly because the ARTEMIS does not have enough thrust (Delta V), to conduct the mission the same way as Apollo using a low lunar orbit. Instead, they will use a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NHRO), which means there will be long periods that if something happens on the surface, they will have to wait for the return vehicle to come back in range. Interestingly we have NEVER done cryogenic refueling in space. More concerning, we are two years from launch and they still don't know how many tankers they have to launch for this mission. The latest NASA estimate is 15!!! Thankfully they are not using the Boeing Starliner capsule, but Boeing is very involved with other parts of the project. Cool to see us reaching out again but sucks that we can't do what we did 55 years ago!

Our system could not handle the pressure from all four pumps at contact, would force a pressure disconnect. We usually let fuel flow stabilize then asked for the extra pumps.

I am not saying it doesn't happen, but in this case I HIGHLY doubt it. Not because I am a biased Miami fan but because the Referee from that game is a friend of mine. In life and business he is truly one of the most ethical guys I know, he has actually been recognized for it in the company we both work for. Aside from that call, I heard the commentators talking about a general theme in college refereeing this year, a focus on trying to get to the right outcome rather than always have "indisputable evidence." While I want them to get to the right call, it can't be arbitrary...there will probably be changes after this season. We will see at 1300 but the poll projections have Alabama and Georgia in the top five, above undefeated Miami. Depends on the platform. It had a much bigger bow wave which made it tougher for bigger platforms like the Gunship. As a technique behind the KC-10 I would come in a big low and try to pop up through the bow wave. One cool feature about the KC-10, they have dual pumps. Typically we would hook up with one pump and once we had steady fuel flow, ask for the second pump which increased the offload to 3,000lbs per minute. I did two deployments to Korea and had KC-10's drag us both times. Hickam to Guam taking gas every 45 minutes while you are 10K over Max Weight to get to the ETP...good times.
