I don't see any issues in what you want to do. I was an enlisted flyer prior to commissioning. There is very little doubt that it helped me get the slot. I was called while working in Stan/Eval and interviewed on the spot. Found out later that day that I was selected. This is not typical. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Both guys in my squadron are 0-5's that got the waiver to surpass 28 yrs.

I do not believe you can retire off AD and then draw a paycheck from the Reserves (will do a little research and get back to you). Is the full-time portion as an AGR? The 28 yrs rule also applies to the Reserves, but, as usual, a waiver can be granted if leadership feels they want you to hang around (we currently have 2 in my squadron, 1 full-time and 1 part-timer). I am sure there are other pitfalls, but cannot think of any off the top of my head. Edit: added AGR question

I pretty much agree with both CH and M2. I met Rich in 2003 at Corpus and became a moderator for ANG/AFRC forum about a year later. I agree it is our job to keep discussions on topic, discussions in the proper place, and to provide expertise/knowledge/mentorship where possible. My biggest gripe is when individuals pipe up on topics they appear to have no knowledge on or, what seems like, to "hear themselves talk". What usually ends up happening is they either confuse the issue/original question or seriously derail the discussion. Our job as moderators is to prevent this when it happens. I believe what Rich created is still very viable and should carry on.

Tell me brother! Former legacy herk guy, now RPA qualified guy. My reason was that my unit "transitioned" and I had to as well if I wanted to keep my job. Sure do miss the herk!!

I sure hope this thread doesn't devolve like many of the other threads nsplayer post in. I have enjoyed reading this thread to learn more, but it looks like its heading towards the taxes/fiscal cliff and election threads that I quit reading months ago. He is slowly ruining this forum for me.

I received my finalized proof today from our group poc and were told engraving will begin this week.
