  1. I believe it is based off years of active duty service, at least that is how it was when I was commissioned 10 years ago. I'm a Guard guy, but had enough AD time (4 years) to qualify for O-1E.

    Oktoberfest

I got to experience my first one last weekend. We started drinking at 0600 at the airport in Sofia and had a few more at the Munich airport before heading downtown on the train. WOW! is all I can say. You just have to go to understand how large of a party this really is. Never been around so many people drinking beer in one location. Be careful to not leave the "tent" after about 1600 unless you do not want to get back in. They close the doors and don't let anyone in. I guess it is to prevent overcrowding, but I think they waited a little too long. Will definitely go back next year!!
  3. I would concur. Currently doing the Online Masters Course for ACSC and the Practice of Command class mentions this a few times. Reason is that it would show that the SQ/CC relates to his non-flyers.
  4. I think the only exception is when they are "under arms". The Marine guards at the Embassy salute us when we come thru Post 1.
  5. For those with AFN, this is going to be shown on Saturday, 28 Mar, on AFN Movie channel.
  6. Bender, wasn't referring to your post. English and coherent english are two different things.
  7. I guess I need that decoder ring as well. I only understood about a third of what was written. And pulling someone off a flight to fill sandbags is UNSAT! Especially at a base outside of the "box".
  8. That is freaking gay as hell!!
  9. What's his beef with E/H guys? Wouldn't you want guys that have experience in like airframe/mission? I don't understand the thought process, but I guess that's why I'm not a sq/cc.
  10. I was sleeping. I had just returned from SERE. The phone had been ringing for a while (not sure how long) and I finally decided to answer it. It was my brother asking me "what the hell is going on?". I told him I was sleeping and he said to turn my TV on. I did. As soon as I turned it on, the second plane hit. I told him I would call him back. Checked the answering machine and there were 2 or 3 messages from the squadron telling me that we were being put in Alpha and Bravo alert status. I was told to stay home until they called. Ending up watching the news coverage all day. Never forget!!
  11. I recently had TSA cut the lock of my suitcase, therefor leaving it unlocked for my travel back to Eastern Europe. I had bought 2, 80-GB iPods the day before and put them, still in original packaging, in that bag because of the lock. Needless to say, when my luggage arrived 7 hours after I did, both iPods were gone. I have filed a claim with TSA, so they should reimburse me for the theft. At least they give me that impression. So, my recommendation is to get TSA approved locks (SafeSkies has the ones I bought). They are combination locks that also have a key slot so TSA can unlock them and then relock them. Type "TSA approved locks" in Google.
  12. I have the last 3 Citizen Navihawks, including the new one, and I have not had a problem out of any of them. I really like the new one with the auto update and backlight. Took them long enough.
  13. What does his tab patch say?
  14. No, The Banner been gone for 15 or so years. The Tennessean published the original article.

    Euro 2008

Probably not. I don't think I'll be home until around Christmas. But, if I do make it, I will definately stop by.

Personally, I'm ready for some real football! It's hard for me to get excited about soccer, but the locals here are trying their best to convince me. I got stuck in all the traffic last weekend when I was driving thru southern Germany and Austria. Lots of Russians, Swedes, and a ton of Dutch fans heading to the game. Drove thru Croatia and that place was still going crazy from their win over Germany. Just not enough contact in the game and what is up with all the fake injuries?
  17. How about we stop this thread jack? Someone please remove all this childish shit above! The guy's an idiot, it will take care of itself in the long run.
  18. Ask your comm shop. When I got my laptop from them, it had one in it.
  19. I flew that airplane! According to my logbook, I flew it at least twice (missing the tail #'s from the first half of Tweets), with the last flight being 10 Feb 03. Formation ride 2105!
  20. That's the one and I agree, great guy!
  21. One of the IPs mentioned was my Assistant Flight Commander 6 years ago. Didn't realize he was still in the squadron. Glad to hear everyone was OK.
  22. Sad loss for the Baseops family. Please pray for his family.
  23. Roger, got it!
  24. Why can't he do 20 yeas as an ART, which would make him 50. Get hired by the airlines at 50, fly until he's 65? Not something I would want to do either, but it's out there. He wouldn't draw his retirement until later, but he would have a paying job to support himself. You can get pretty decent seniority in 15 years at an airline. Personally, I think he would be an idiot to not take the job if it is being offered to him. Who knows what is going to happen to the airline industry in the future.
  25. If you are 30 yrs old, then why not take the ART job now and then when you retire, apply to the airlines. You will be young enough to do both. Especailly now that they have raised the airline retirement age to 65. This is a decision you have to make on your own. Personally, I would take the ART job. I'm AGR and it's not too bad of a gig. But, I also never really had any interest in the airlines.
