  1. I get the impression that the majority of the ppl that post on BODN about finances are pretty savvy. This has most certainly not been the case in a majority of ppl I've encountered on AD. Lots of debt, very little investing/savings, houses that are out of their means, huge car payments, you name it...
  2. Man, the AF sure got that one right in sending him to bloviate to an auditorium full of captive audience CGOs.
  3. HA! That's where we are at in our Air Force. Hoping for upper mgmt to just SAY the right things. We have set the bar so low we don't even expect positive action from them anymore. Just words. And yet they still disappoint.
  4. For what it's worth, he was the WG/CC of the AETC side at LRF.
  5. Let's not forget the security of Dave Ramsey's plan, too. I could get RIFed tomorrow and my family would be good for six months--without worrying about severance pay, without running up a mess of debt on credit cards to have to clean up later, and without liquidating any of my retirement.
  6. Are you freakin serious? Tell me you're trolling...
  7. I'm with ya buddy, but be careful around here...you'll be labeled a simpleton for quoting Dave Ramsey. Great thread!
  8. Besides your student loans, have you ever carried any other debt, such as credit cards or car payments? You seem to be doing quite well!
  9. I'll caveat this up front that I am in no way important... There are only so many hours in a day/work week. I typically fly twice a week. There is mission planning that takes place before the sortie. We then brief, fly, and debrief. Then, I usually have a grade book write up and/or a Form 8 to complete. Along with my primary duty (see above), I probably have a few projects that I am working on at any given time, as well as keeping tabs on the projects the guys in my shop are working too. Plus, there is always an OPR or award package or two that need working, along with the multiple rounds of edits that of course have to be accomplished. Aside from that, it's the normal whack-a-mole stuff that comes up that serves only as chaff throughout the day. Not to mention I need to find time to work out because I don't have the natural physique of a marathoner. Somewhere in there I need to spend time with family and sleep. Thank goodness I've got AAD and PME banged out. That's not to sport-bitch... Only to say there's shit to do. And if, on occasion, I need to do some work at home during the kiddo's nap time/after bed time as a relief valve to prevent stuff from piling up, well so be it. If things happen to be slow, I take advantage of it and GTFO. I've actually got a pretty awesome CC. That doesn't mean there isn't still shit to do, though.
  10. There are people that have to do work from home in order to get out early enough to SEE their kids, then do a few things after they are put to bed.
  11. Baltika? You'd better be deployed
  12. Same.
  13. Take the ART and then shoot me a PM with the AGR job/location and a contact number for them! Seriously though, congrats and good luck. What a great decision to have to make.
  14. For some of the DVs and their handlers I've had the privilege of transporting, nothing would please me more than to see them getting passage on "lowest bidder" outfits. In fact, if it were possible to have an organization lower than the lowest bidder, that would be even better.
  15. I almost want to post this idea and rationale as to why it would actually be better on shoeclerks.net (AKA AF Times Forums) just to see the flame war that would ensue.
  16. But I thought the AF was experiencing record high retention. That's what I keep hearing from my "senior leaders" in multiple forums, at least. In all seriousness: isn't this A1's J-O-B? How could they roll out of a program without knowing where we could take cuts? Absolutely mind boggling.
  17. ^ One of the best and most succinct COAs for the PME/AAD issue I've ever seen.
  18. Less with less... I don't believe it for a second.
  19. Did the failure result in a referral report? There's a difference...
  20. Up vote.
  21. It is currently a req but there's been a lot of chatter about it becoming either/or, especially given TDY budget constraints.
  22. Hate to say it, but PME is low hanging fruit. He may be trying to help you ensure you don't get the rug pulled out from under you when all of a sudden it becomes a "requirement" to get BVR SOS done in order to go in-res, or, even more likely, *when* you completed it starts to become just as much, if not more, of a discriminator than actually finishing it.
  23. I know some people that are passed over in the '04 year group that are probably wondering the same thing.
  24. Looks like 31 Jan 2015 is the magic number with respect to the less than one year TIG. I stand corrected from my previous post: looks like the '03 year group is going to be vulnerable to the RIF.
